System Requirements: --------------------- Windows 3.0 or Higher in protected mode (NOT REAL MODE) A machine that can run Windows 3.0 higher VBRUN200.DLL NOTE: It is suggested that Beyond Windows Exit should be kept in your Startup Group (Win 3.1) with the Run Minimized property checked. If you have Windows 3.0 you should open your Windows.INI file and edit the line that says LOAD= to say LOAD=BWE.EXE. This program has the following features: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drag & Drop - A program (bat, com or exe) may be dragged from File Manager and dropped into Beyond Windows Exit (BWE). The path and filename will be added to the Program Name text box. Exit Windows - Exits Windows and brings you to the DOS prompt Restart Windows - Restarts Windows Exit/Run/Restart - Exits Windows, runs the DOS program listed in the Program Name text box with the arguments listed in the Command Line Arguments dialog. Reboot System - Exits Windows and reboots your computer Quit - Quits BWE Program Name - The name of a program (bat, com or exe) is added here to control what program is run in DOS. DO NOT INCLUDE any arguments for the DOS program here! Command Line Arguments - Any additonal arguments you may need for your DOS application. (EXAMPLE: Program Name says - C:\DOS\EDIT.COM and Command Line Arguments says C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT then Windows will exit and start MS-DOS editor with your Autoexec.bat file loaded. When you exit the MS-DOS editor, Windows will automatically restart.) ----------------------------------------------- Command Line Arguments for Beyond Windows Exit ----------------------------------------------- Argument Description ========================================================================== /x Same as clicking Exit Windows. (EXAMPLE: C:\MYDIR\BWE.EXE /x) /r Same as clicking Restart Windows. (EXAMPLE: C:\MYDIR\BWE.EXE /r) /s Same as clicking Reboot System. (EXAMPLE: C:\MYDIR\BWE.EXE /s) /t:prog,args /t: = Same as clicking Exit/Run/Restart. prog = text to place in the program name text box. args = text to place in the command line arguments text box. (EXAMPLE: C:\MYDIR\BWE.EXE /t:C:\DOS\EDIT.COM,C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT) NOTICE: If you need to use a forward slash as a arguement, you MUST instead use a section mark (§ press ALT and press 0167 on the NUMBER PAD ONLY). Beyond Windows Exit will convert these to forward slashes before it exits Windows. ******************************************************************* W A R N I N G - For users of Central Point PC Tools for Windows OR Any other applications which restart programs that where running when you exit Windows ------------------------------------------------------------------- Problem: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Programs that restart applications which are running when Windows exits will "remember" that BWE was running when you exited Windows. If you use any command line arguments, then the next time you start Windows, the program will BWE with those same command line options. This will cause an infinte loop of exiting Windows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Solution for PC Tools for Windows: ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are using the MultiDesk (Virtual Desktop) feature, you MUST disable the RESTORE OPEN ITEMS ON ACTIVATION checkbox for the Desktop where you run BWE. ------------------------------------------------------------------- How to solve the problem after the infinite loop begins: ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Restart your computer WITHOUT starting Windows (boot up from a floppy if necessary). 2. Change to the directory where BWE.EXE is located. 3. Rename BWE.EXE to BWE.SAV 4. Restart your computer (be sure to remove any floppies) and start Windows. 5. Start File Manager and rename BWE.SAV back to BWE.EXE. 6. Be more careful next time! ******************************************************************* For more information about our other products (Contacts 1.5, ScratchPad 1.0, INI Manager 1.0, SysInfo Manager 1.0, or Wallpaper Manager 1.5) or for quotes for custom programming, please contact us at: Martinsen's Software 5501 Tullis Drive Building 2, Suite 304 New Orleans, LA 70131-8864 (504) 394-6045 PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!
