WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS Enhancements The following enhancement requests have been implemented in WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS. (Note: The writing of these enhancements is in future tense because this information was exported directly from WPCorp's Enhancement Database, which is an ongoing record of client requests.) Advance: Into Margins Ability to Advance into the current margins. Auto Code Placement: Add Ordered Insertion of Codes Provide ordered insertion of codes. Insert line, paragraph and page functions at the beginning of the line, paragraph or page. Automatic Font Changes: Setting no AFC's within WP Ability to turn off AFC's within WP. Perhaps allow this if the Ratios are set to 0%. Currently the user must use PTR and mark it for every font. Perhaps just having one option in PTR to set no AFC's for the printer would be enough. Backup Timed: All document screens Backup all document modifications at the same time. Start timing when the modified bit gets set. When the timer goes off for that document, save all documents if they have been modified. Backup Timed: Default On Have Timed Backup default as On. Backup Timed: Default 10 minutes Change the default timed backup to 10 minutes rather than 30 minutes. Backup: Retrieve when entering WP When entering WP and a timed backup file exists, allow the user to retrieve the backup file rather than just renaming it. Backup: Directory longer than 8 characters When entering WP after an illegal exit, ability to save the backup to a directory/path longer than 8 characters long. Barcodes: Postal Barcodes 11+ Ability to generate a postal barcode from the 9 digit zip code plus the last two digits of the street address. This 11+ bar code can be used now, but it will be required March 1993 as 9+ bar codes will no longer be eligible for reduced rates. Delivery Point Bar Code, DPBC. Barcodes: Merge barcodes automatically Have the ability to recognize the zip code and create a barcode for the envelope during a merge. Do not force the creation of the barcode in the secondary merge file as the POSTNET.WPM macro does in 5.1. Barcodes: Add Postal Barcodes Ability to generate a postal barcode from 9 digit zip codes without macro. Barcodes: Certify bar code printing Certify the bar code printing from the Post Office. Make sure that we have the sizes of the lines correct and they are placed in the correct place. Barcodes: Printing faster Printing bar codes to a postscript printer is very slow because the equation editor is used to print them. Make this faster. Binding: Only effect one margin The binding should affect only the margin that is being added to. The extra space should not make the opposite margin smaller. Just reformat the text. Binding: Left Right Margin Adjustment Insert Binding Width in the document as a code. Usually if you want to print a document with binding, you will always want to print it that way. Also allow binding to be set for different pages and sections. Would also allow you to insert this into a Style. Binding: Negative - Outside Provide Negative Binding so the outside margins are effected instead of the inside margins. This is important for those that want to write notes in the outside margin. Block Protect: Enter directly Ability to enter block protect codes directly. Enter block code, then type the text, and then turn block protect off. Currently you must block existing text before block protect can be selected. Block/Select: Stay On Ability to apply multiple attributes to a selected/blocked area of text. This would let you select/block an area, bold the area and then underline the area. Block Protect: Paragraph Ability to automatically block protect all paragraphs within a selected area of text. Allowing a paragraph style to effect existing paragraphs would solve this. Block/Select: Return to previous Ability to apply formatting codes to a selected area of text and have it only effect the area. Have formatting codes before the selected area automatically restored after the area. Allow this for Tabs, Left/Right Margins, Justification, Line Spacing, Line Height and other line formatting codes. Block/Select: Space converted to Soft Returns Pressing a Space while block is on will not find the Soft Returns that were converted from Spaces. A Soft Return will, however, satisfy a search for a Space. Make this consistent. Bookmark: Add Invisible Bookmarks Ability to place invisible bookmarks in the document which would allow the user to easily jump to that mark in the text. Border Options: In Graphics and Tables options Place the Border Options codes in the graphic and tables option screens. This would allow the user to change the defaults for thick, thin, dotted for that particular box or table. Continue to have one border option in Setup to define all boxes and tables. Have extra ones in the Graphic and Table Option codes though. Border Options: Colors Ability to print Graphic Lines and Graphic Borders in different colors. Border Options: Exact width Ability to specify the exact width of the borders of boxes and tables. This would allow you to say .01" wide rather than choosing single which is set to .01". Borders: Line Color Ability to set different color for the lines rather than only width. Borders: Columns Ability to place a vertical line between columns on multiple pages without having to define the line several times or in a header. Borders: Around page, paragraph, column Ability to place a box border around a page, paragraph or column. Button Bar: Scroll Bar Add a Scroll Bar to the Button Bar. Button Bar: Add them Ability to create and use button bars. Button Bar: Interface -- make font readable Make the font on the button bar readable. Button Bar: Turn on with Keystroke Ability to turn on the button bar with a keystroke. Currently it is only available through View in the pull down menus. Cancel: Home, Home, Down Ability to cancel a [Home, Home, Down]. Cancel: Exit on Cancel Menu Display an Exit option on the Cancel menu. 1. Replace 2. Previous. 3. Exit/Cancel Some users don't think that you can press Cancel again to cancel out of Cancel. Center Page: All pages Ability to center all pages in a document at one time rather than requiring each page to have a center page code. Center Page: Turn off if in Initial Codes Ability to turn center page off in the document if it is turned on in initial codes. Character Sets: Outline fonts Provide outline fonts for all DRS characters. Character Sets 9: Hebrew - Vowels The vowels of Hebrew characters should be placed underneath the consonants. Current versions of WP do not place the characters accurately on the page. Character Sets 9: Hebrew Add two characters. Similar to [9,25] and [9,26] but without the small dots at the top of the characters. [Customer: "Not too popular, but necessary." Contradiction??] Character Sets 5: Zapf Dingbat Create a character set for Zapf Dingbats characters. Character Sets 6: X bar Add the x bar character to the math sets. This is for Mean or Average. It is an x with a bar over it. Character Sets 4: Recycle character Add a recycle character to the character sets. Triple arrows in a circle. Character Sets 2: Phonetic - IPA Create a character set for the International Phonetic Alphabet, IPA. Includes, but not limited to, the schwa - upside down e, vowels with long or short marks, etc. Character Sets: Bold Do not print the DRS characters bold compared to other characters in the document. As the character gets smaller, WP needs to thin the character out. As it gets bigger, it needs to get fatter. This is what is meant when we say "hinted" fonts. This effects equations that are printed graphically. If you get requests for this on or after WP60 level products, you will need to specify which font they are using. Character Sets: Music Add musical symbols to the WordPerfect Character Set. Treble, treble base, half note, quarter note, 16th note. Clipboard: Block like Clipboard Have a Clipboard Type Blocking feature within WP so you can block information in menus and other items in Text format. Columns Newspaper: Down arrow in Newspaper Down arrow in Newspaper columns across page breaks should take you to the top of the next column on the same page, not the first column on the next page. Columns Parallel: Spacing between parallel Allow the user to specify the vertical distance between parallel columns. This would allow the user to not have double spacing/blank line between columns. Columns: Different code than HPG Create a different code to separate columns rather than using a [HPg]. Columns: Lines between columns - printable Be able to define graphic lines between columns in the Column Definition DB. Columns: Reformat for new margins, paper size When the margins are reset or you choose a different paper size type, automatically reformat the Columns Definition if WP automatically set the margins. adjust Columns: Block text, turn columns on Ability to block text on the screen and turn columns on to format the selected text into columns. Columns: Define by width of column, not margins Ability to define the width of the column in inches. Once given WP would automatically calculate the required spacing. Columns: Relative to margin Align columns relative to the margin rather than an exact position on the page. This would also make it possible to place column relative to the left edge of a graphics box. Columns: Display page break Automatically display a page break across the full screen after the first column is created. Currently WP waits to display the complete page break until all columns are created and complete. Columns: Balanced Columns Automatically break columns vertically so each column is approximately the same length when ending columns before the bottom of the page. Comment: Codes Ability to insert codes into a comment. Underline, Date, Fonts, Indent, Tab, etc. Comment: Editor - Block Copy - Reveal Codes Provide a full editor for comments. This would allow you to block and copy text while in Comments, use Reveal Codes, etc. Comment: Columns Display document comments while in columns mode. Comment: Tables Ability to display Document Comments within Tables. Or if a Comment is created while inside a Table, automatically display the Comment above or below the Table (depending on which is the closest?). Comment: Bigger Ability to have bigger document comments. Compose: Backspace to only delete last character Pressing Backspace at the Compose prompt should only delete the last character of the prompt, not both. Compose: Choose from list Display all WP characters in a list and allow user to select character from list to insert it in the document. Conditional EOP: Current line Cond End of Pg should start counting on the current line instead of starting with the next line. Maybe force the Conditional End of Page code to the beginning of a line (like margin codes). This is VERY confusing to new users. Conversion: Interface-user friendly Make the 5.1 convert program more user friendly. Conversion: Within WordPerfect Ability to access the document and graphic conversion programs from within WordPerfect. Do not make the user exit WP to access them. Convert Case: Initial Caps Ability to use switch to capitalize the first letter of every word in the selected text. Counters: Percentage Complete Have percentage counters to show the percentage complete whenever WP is processing something; printing, generating, importing spreadsheets, retrieving documents, spell checking, retrieving, moving a large block, etc. This is the "general" request for products without any counters. Products like WP51Win and WP60DOS will need to track requests separately. Counters: Numbering - all purpose Ability to define and use multiple counters. Allow several levels to be defined and Letter, Roman or Arabic styles. Used for any type of numbering within document. Can be incremented automatically if used with a feature such as Equations or Footnotes, or can be incremented manually if inserted into Header or document. Cross Reference: Text Ability to cross reference a block of text. This would allow you to have the original text display in one part of the document, and have an exact duplicate of the text later in the document. Cross Reference: Page Number Style to not include Exclude a page numbering style in a cross reference. Cross Reference: List Targets When using Cross-Reference, display a list of target names and allow selecting one from the list. Also be able to print list. Date: Math on Date Ability to compute x days, months, weeks or years into the past or future. Allow this with the MDY command in Tables Math. This requires the user to insert a table and use a formula. Date: CAPs Ability to have the month of the date in all CAPS. Use $ to be consistent with VMS. Date: Store in Document Ability to store the date format as a code which would allow you to store more than one date format code within the document. This would allow you to have a date display, and also a time display in different places within the document. It would also allow you to have the date spelled out, (October 31, 1992), as well as abbreviated by numbers, (10/31/92) within the same document. Date: Hard Space Ability to insert a hard space into the date format. Date: Seconds Ability to display seconds in the Date Format. Delay Codes: Page Formatting codes to start next pg Ability to insert a page formatting code on one page, but not have it take effect until a page or several pages later. This would be helpful as you could put page formatting codes at the first of the document and not worry about them floating to another page as text is entered or deleted. This would allow you to easily have letterhead on one page with different margins for the second page. Delete: Confirmation Ability to specify an Advanced mode in which no confirmation prompts are displayed. For example, do not prompt when deleting a block. (Save, Exit) Delete: Column When Deleting column when not in Reveal Codes, have confirmation prompt "Delete Column On/Off?" Display: Color blind users Choose new default colors more sensitive to the Color Blind users. Display: Screen Saver Provide a screen saver which would turn the display off when not in use. Display: Color Wheel Offer a color wheel for selection of the colors by mouse or cursor movement similar to WPMAC. Display: Border - not flush left Do not display the text flush left to the border around the screen. Position it a few spaces away by default. Allow the user to set the margins. Display: Default Colors Ability to easily reset the display colors for fonts and attributes to the default settings. Display: Column off at Soft Page Break Display [Col OFF-SPg] where the Column off code also incorporates a Soft Page. We currently do not display the soft page code at all in this situation, much the same way that no [HRt] was displayed with a [SPg] in 5.0. Display: Horizontal Scrolling when using ps font Ability to see full line of text on the editing screen while using a ps font. Currently text scrolls of the right of the screen. Because the draft screen normally displays text in monospace, there are not many ways around this. One way is to use a Text Driver which will display more characters per inch. Another way, is to provide a graphical interface where the user has the ability to zoom to the desired distance so all text can be displayed. The third way is to provide a temporary line break at the edge of the screen. This would be during editing mode only (MS Word does something similar). We are hoping the first two solutions will solve this problem. If they do not, we need to track the request separately. This request is for those reporting the problem that have NOT tried both the graphical user interface and/or the text driver. ENHWP #22 is for users that have tried both, and are still not satisfied. Display: Format after each key pressed Option to automatically reformat the document after each character is input or any formatting codes are changed (margins). People do not want to be forced to press down arrow to format the line they are entering text on. Helpful when using the mouse. If done, this would cause constant movement below the cursor as each time a character was entered, the text below would move. Display: Table after HRt-SPg When scrolling through a document and encountering a Table Box code that is after a HRt-SPg, the line is displayed twice. This problem is messing up generate. Document Information: Line Count Display the line count of a document in Document Information menu. Document Information: Word Count for sentence Ability to count the average number of words in a sentence. Document Compare: Word Document compare by word rather than by phrase. Document Information: Word Count - Numbers to be included Ability to include numbers in the count of Word Count during Spell Document Information: Paragraph Count Display the number of paragraphs in the document Information screen. Document Information: Word Count separate from Speller Provide a word count that can be accessed without using the speller. Update the count as text is being entered. Document Compare: Redline on Right Margin Allow for redline to show on right margin as well as left, alternating and printer dependant. Envelopes: Built in feature Ability to easily create envelopes without the use of a macro. Ability to enter default return address. Take the address information from the screen and print an envelope in the correct format. Have this internal rather than a macro. Equation Editor: Display equation in WYSIWYG mode Display the equation at the main document screen when in WYSIWYG mode so user do not have to go into equation editor to look at. Equation Editor: Save as graphics Ability to save an equation as a graphics file rather than a text file with only the text of the equation. Equation Editor: Block and Copy Ability to block and copy information while in the equation editor. Equations: Font select/change for Equation Be able to set the font for the equation box when it is not printing graphically. Or be able to change fonts within the equation. Exit: Mouse The ability to click on F7 to exit when in an editing screen such as Headers/Footers, graphics text edit, and styles edit. Exit: Modification - Spreadsheet link When re-saving a document that has had a change in the Spreadsheet Link Options, the save prompt states that the document has not been modified. It should. Fax: Fax interaction Ability to fax a document from WordPerfect. File Manager: Look Retrieve Ability to retrieve a file while Looking at it in File Manager / List Files. File Manager: Sort by Ascending/Descending order Ability to sort list files in ascending or descending order. This is especially needed when sorting by date. This would list the most recent files at top. File Manager: Long filename used, but short displayed Ability to display a directory in Short mode, even if the Long Filename Option is prompted for when saving. Currently, a macro has to be written that change to Short display in List Files. File Manager: Look Mark Ability to Mark a file while Looking at it in File Manager. File Manager: Typeover mode While at a List Files prompt, display somewhere on the screen that you are in typeover mode. File Manager: Look at graphics Ability to view graphics files when Looking at a file in File Manager / List Files. File Manager: Delete and Retrieve Do not place Delete next to Retrieve on the menu. It is too easy for "fat" fingers to press the wrong one when using numbers for selection. File Manager: Find to look through Macro Descriptions Find should work for the Macro description of Macro files. File Manager View: Block and Copy Ability to block and copy while viewing a document in List Files. File Manager: Long Filename to display completely Display more of the long filename while in List Files/File Manager. In WP51DOS only 30 of the 68 characters are displayed. File Indexer: Hypertext documents on disk Ability to index all words in a document or group of documents on disk for quick search access. This would make File Manager work more like other hypertext searching tools like folio. File Manager: F5, F5 display last changes Pressing F5, F5 should display the last directory worked in with the last changes made. If a file was deleted/moved as a last step, it should not be shown. File Manager: Retrieving a subdirectory When a subdirectory is highlighted and retrieve is selected, enter into the subdirectory (as if Enter was pressed) rather than not doing anything. File Manager: Retrieving Text file HRt - SRt Option when retrieving a DOS Text file from List Files to have the Hard Returns converted to Soft Returns. Currently user can press Text In, (Ctrl-F5 in WP51DOS), while in List Files and accomplish this. Would like a menu option. File Manager: Default directory Option to have WP to remember or not remember the default directory when WP was started from DOS and restore those same settings when exiting WP. WP51 remembers, WP50 does not. File Manager: Directory Tree Ability to display a directory tree when in File Manager. Allow this whenever File Manager can be used to retrieve file (Retrieve, SubDoc, Spreadsheets, etc). File Manager: Default to be Retrieve Default of file manager / list files should be Open not Look. Open is similar to Retrieve, but opens file into new document screen. File Manager: Attributes to display Display the file attributes while in File Manager. File Manager: Long filename with password Display the Long Filename not "Locked" in list files/file manager when the file is locked. Display that the file is locked in some other fashion. File Manager: Search, F2 recall After Searching for a word and then looking at the file, pressing F2 should automatically bring up the string previously searched for. File Manager View: Macro File When looking at a Macro in List Files/File Manager, display the codes and text of a Macro. File Manager: Copy - path come up automatically When copying or moving a file, have the path automatically come up at the prompt for editing. Maybe even have the path be the last entered path for copying or moving a file. File Manager: Long name show ALL When displaying long filenames in File Manager/List Files, have an option to display all files, even if they are not WordPerfect files. File Manager: Sort by Date, extension, short Ability to sort list files by Date/Time, type, extension, short or long filename, size. File Manager: Retrieve Marked Files Ability to retrieve marked files of List Files at the same time. Allow them to be retrieved into the same document screen or into different document screens. Filename: Filename Recall Ability to recall (call) a filename at all filename prompts. (merge, sort, save, retrieve, etc.) Filename: Insert Filename Ability to insert a code that will print the current filename of the document. Have this code automatically update when the filename is changed. Fill Styles: Gradient fill Allow the user to set the shading of the box, graphic lines or table cells to gradually go from light to dark. Font Color: Select name, rather than percentage Ability to change colors by selecting the name of the color rather than the percentage of the color. Font Color: Block text to assign color Ability to block text and assign a color to the block of text. Have the previous color return after the block text. Font Attribute: Set to normal with bold attributes Have a Normal code that can be used with beginning and ending gates: [NORMAL][normal] to allow the following: If text is bolded and you would want to make words in the middle of the text Normal, you could block it and select Normal. Font: One Dialog box Change the font menu to one dialog box so that you can select several attributes without having to go into the font menu everytime. Font: Display window for font Have a display window next to the Base Font menus that displays the font graphically when selecting the font. WYSBYGI Font: Mixed color Ability to print fonts in mixed colors on those printer that have the ability. WordPerfect needs to be able to make more than one pass to print colors so it can first print the blue and then make a second pass to print the yellow to make green. Font: + or * In the Base Font list show the fonts as either * or + so they will know at a glance. Good for trouble shooting and knowing which ones not to use for a quick job. Font: Point Size Option in Size to choose the Point Size (like WPDOS42) or CPI for the current font. Font: Graphically/ADD Ability to print fonts graphically so you do not need to rely on the printers fonts for font sizes and types or add soft fonts. Font: Temporary font Ability to block a section of text and apply a new base font to only that area of text. Have the font following the section reset to the previous font. Do not hard code previous font name, but allow it to change if the previous font changes. Footnote and Endnote: Roman Numerals Ability to use Roman Numerals for the numbering of footnotes or endnotes. Footnote and Endnote: Styles for Fonts, Margins, Tabs, etc Provide a Footnote/Endnote Style which would allow the user to define the font, margins, tabs, justification and other formatting codes for all notes to use. Would also allow inserting Indent or Tab before footnote number. Footnote and Endnote: Tab and Indent Ability to insert Tab or Indent codes before the Footnote or Endnote number in the Style for Numbering Note. Footnote and Endnote: New Footnote Number in arabic Ability to enter a new footnote or endnote number in Arabic and have it effect the numbering, no matter what method is being used. Currently, if you are using "*" as the character and you would to change to a new footnote number, you must enter the appropriate number of "*". It would be nice if it would work like Outline New Number. Footnote and Endnote: No character Ability to suppress the printing of the numbers, characters or letters in the text of the footnote and endnote and in the text of the document. Footnote: Paragraph graphics Ability to have a Paragraph Type Graphics while in a Footnote. Currently it only lets you select Character. When the Footnote is several paragraphs long, even a page long, this is needed. Footnote: Letters in Uppercase Ability to specify footnote numbering in uppercase letters. Footnote: Footnote Line longer Automatically extend the footnote line across the full width of the form for those pages where a footnote continues to a second page. Footnote: Space between line and text Be able to adjust the space between the footnote line and the footnote text. Adjust the footnote separator. Footnote: Columns Newspaper Allow footnotes in Newspaper Columns Mode. Footnote: Page Break Ability to insert a hard page break within a Footnote to specify where break should be and what should be continued on next page. Footnote: Block Protect BLOCK PROTECT codes within footnotes. Some information that is in a large footnote should not be split over pages and there is not a current way to prevent this. Generate ToA: At end of the document If the Table of Authorities is defined at the end of the document, do not issue the warning command that a new page number is not found. Some users would rather the ToA not be the first thing seen when retrieving the document. The ToA is moved to the beginning at print time. Generate ToC: Arabic Numbering Ability to use Arabic numbering for the Table of Contents rather than Roman numerals. Generate Index: Endnotes wrong page number Index generation from a concordance where matches are found inside an endnote gives wrong page numbers. WP51 cannot handle the different placements of the endnotes (ie at end of document, or at various places where endnote placement codes are found). It currently handles them like footnotes giving the page number where the note was defined. Generate: Inside Graphic Text Box Ability to generate a Table of Contents or List inside of a graphics text box or a table. This would allow the user to have a border around the toc. Generate: Style Ability to create a style to assign formatting codes for any given level of generated lists including ToC, ToA, List, Index, etc. Allow attributes, spacing, indention, etc, to be assigned. Generate: Style Allow Definition codes within a style. This would allow a table of contents to be defined within the style. Generate: Original Backup Updating subdocs and Replacing subdocs should call the original backup routine. When the subdocs are replaced no .BK! files are created. Generate: Page Number Style Ability to not include the document page number style in generated lists. In the normal document, you may want to include text next to the page number, but with the generated lists you may only want to include the page number. Generate: Error - marking area with marked text Issue an error if the user blocks or selects an area of text for a generated list if there is existing marked text within that block. Generate: Items longer than line Ability to have the Headings and Subheadings in Indexes and the items in Table of Contents longer than one line and have them wrap. Generate: Def marks to be paired Make the def marks and end def marks paired codes so that when one is deleted, the other is also. Currently when a ToC Def Mark is deleted, the end mark remains and visa versa. Generate: Hard Spaces in marks Retain the hard spaces in items that are marked when generating. Currently, the hard spaces are converted to normal spaces. Generate: Text more than 1 1/2 pages When marking text of more than about a page and a half in length, the block is too large for copying with accuracy when there is text in doc 2 also. This is due to insufficient memory situation where the free space for a save area is less than info to save for a doc switch. Needs to be addressed in 5.2 if generate has a redesign/rework. Generate: >250 entries Allow Table of Contents and Table of Authorities to have more than 250 entries. Generate: Caption centered If the Caption of a graphics box is Centered from left to right, do not bring the centering code into the Generated lists. Generate: Remove Redline/Strikeout from Headers In Generate, remove redline/strikeout codes from headers and footers. Generate: Counter - display what each pass does While generating, display a message with each pass explaining what that pass does. Go To Shell: Password - Disable Ability to disable Go To DOS. Graphics Caption: Rotate Caption Option to rotate the caption of a graphics when the image or text is rotated. Graphics Lines: Number Lines Ability to edit any of the graphics lines once you are in the menu. Maybe number the lines as you do boxes. Currently, you can only edit the line to the left of the cursor. Graphics Options: Relative Number with increment options Ability to have the numbering of one particular box not effect the numbering of the other boxes of the same type. For example, if I am including many equations in my document and I do not want to have this one small equation be included in the numbering, have the ability to do this. In WP51DOS you can use a different type of box to simulate the same type of thing. Graphics Options: 31 - Increase level number above 31 Increase the number of graphics that can be assigned to different levels. Currently the limit is 31. Graphics Options: Rounded Corners Ability to have rounded corners on graphic boxes. Allow the user to specify the degree of curve. Graphics Caption: Increase the size of Numbering Style Increase the size of the Caption Numbering Style. Currently it is only 19 characters long. Provide up to 32 characters. Graphics Caption: Style Ability to define a style for captions of graphic boxes. This would allow specific spacing, attributes and other formatting codes defined by the user. Graphics Options: Wrap to bottom Ability to have the text flow from the top of the graphic box to the bottom rather than wrapping to a side of the box. This would make it so no text was printed on either side of the graphic. Graphics Caption: Increase the size of Caption Allow more the 256 bytes in a graphic caption. Graphics Lines: Borders Be able to have lines that are double, dashed, dotted, etc. Graphics Lines: Relative to margins Option to make graphic lines relative to the left and right margins so when Binding is used, it will push the line over as well as margin changes. Graphics Lines: Color Ability to choose the color a graphic line will print in. Graphics Options: Captions to use 1 or 2 in strings Ability to include the numbers 1 and 2 as strings, not only numbers in the Graphic Caption Style. Customer would like to have the numbering format of 1A1-1, 1A1-2, 1A1-3 and so forth. Would like to force the first 1 to be treated as text, and not as the first level numbering. Graphics Contents: On Disk Retain the path when graphics contents is Image on Disk. Graphics Options: Original size Allow the user to set the default of WP to keep the original size of the graphics bringing in. As it is in WP51DOS, you have to use Size using Auto Both for every graphics. Graphics Mode: ZZ16028 Grey area on right The grey area to the right of the screen when in graphics mode does not look good. Graphics Options: Change while in graphics Ability to change graphic box options while creating or editing a graphics. Do not store the information separate from the graphic. Make them the same code so that if you move a graphic, the correct options remain with the correct graphic. Graphics: Retrieving invalid graphics file When trying to retrieve an invalid graphics file format from List Files when retrieving graphics image into the graphics box, keep the user in the list files screen. Currently this returns the user to the graphics screen making them type 1)filename, F5, F5 (WP51DOS) to get back to List Files. Graphics: On disk searching order When using the Graphics on Disk feature, search the current directory first, then the personal graphics directory and then the shared graphics directory. Graphics: Center text vertically Ability to center text vertically in a graphics box. Graphics: Wrap Around Irregularly shaped Ability to wrap text around irregularly shaped graphics rather than wrapping text around the contour of the box. Graphics: Scale on screen Be able to scale graphics on the editing screen using the mouse. Word for Windows can do this. Graphics: Intensity/Shade Ability to set the intensity which the graphics will print in. This would allow the user to lighten or darken the graphic by a certain percentage. Graphic to print like a Watermark in the background. Graphics: Error diffusion Option to control whether WP dither's or not. Control amount of half tone dithering. Or be able to use Error Diffusion. Graphics: Outline of box without hard returns Display the outline of the graphic box even if there are no [Hrt] past the graphic box code. Currently hard returns need to be entered before the box border is displayed. Graphics: Automatically adjust to size of image The ability to retrieve a graphic into a WordPerfect graphic box and have the box automatically adjust itself both horizontally and vertically to the actual size of the graphic upon retrieval. Auto sizing for scanned images. Graphics: Default Options Ability to set default box options. Set the position, type, line style, how text wraps, etc. Graphics: Text and Graphics Ability to place text directly on top of a graphic while in the graphics editor. Would allow text in a graphics box to resize proportionally when the box is resized. Graphics: Size to return measurement of Auto Size When selecting Size of box and the option to (1)Set Width/Auto Height or (2)Set Height/Auto Width is used, have the default sizes brought up be the size that is used when using the Auto Size Both option. Graphics: Lines Ability to place graphic lines inside a graphics box. Graphics: Box inside another Ability to have a graphics box inside of another graphics box. * This would allow equation inside a text box. * This would make it easy to tie two boxes together, one that is full page and the other that is paragraph type. * Could position many boxes inside one full page box for presentations. Graphics: Scale figure Allow option in Figure Edit to scale the figure non-proportionally to the box size. Stretch/squish to the box size. You can manually do this with the scale option, but it would be nice to have it with one keystroke. Graphics: Wrap around both sides Ability to have text wrap around both sides of a graphic automatically. Allow this without the use of columns. Helpful when using small graphics. Graphics: Shade in color Ability to set the Color of the shading in graphic boxes. Currently you may set the shade of gray, allow the color of the shade (blue, red, etc). Header and Footer: Space between Header/Footer and text Ability to set a space between the Header/Footer and text of the document without having to use Hard Returns. Adjust the space separator. Header and Footer: Edit page location Ability to edit a page location of a header or footer rather than forcing the user to delete and recreate them completely. Header and Footer: Anywhere on page Ability to place a header/footer or other page formatting codes anywhere on the current page and have it take effect on that page rather than waiting until the next page. Header and Footer: Font Ability to define which font the Header or Footers print in. Header and Footer: Stop and start again Ability to turn a Header or Footer off for several pages and then start it again. This works well when needing to stop a header for a multipage table or several page chart, etc. Help: Topics Section Add a topics section. This would discuss different word processing topics and include information on how to accomplish them in WP. Help: Cancel out of help Ability to press the Cancel key or select a cancel option to exit out of help. Help: Help Heading Display a HELP heading while in Help. With Context Sensitive help, users get lost and forget they are in help. Help: Overflow files Display which directory is being used for the overflow files while in WP. Currently, when you enter WP51, it tells you "System is using c:\wp51". Need that information when already in WP. This would help if you redirected your temporary files with the /d option to a directory that did not exist. Looking in help or where ever to find out which directory was really used would be helpful. Help: Previous Ability to go to the previous help screen rather than making the user go back to the main Help menu and start over. Help: Saving a File help needed Include on-line help about "saving a file." This would include implications of using F10 or F7 to save and replace files. Help: Different Color Display the help screen in a different color than that used in the normal editing screen. This will help users remember they are in help. Help: Hypertext Add Hypertext to help. This would allow the user to easily jump from one place to another while in help. Hidden Text: Add Invisible Text Ability to have hidden text in a document. Have an option to display and print the text within the hidden attributes or to hide the hidden text from the editing screen and printing. Hyphenation: Not hyphenate word When prompting for hyphenation, display how to Cancel or not hyphenate the word. Many do not know that pressing Cancel will not hyphenate the word. Hyphenation: Clear hyphenation prompt When a hyphenation prompt is received, it remains on the screen until the next occasion for hyphenation or until the current process is complete. Clear the hyphenation prompt off of the screen as soon as the user has responded to it. Hyphenation: ZZ15864 - Possessive words Possessive word forms aren't automatically hyphenated (WordPerfect's, children's). These words just need the 's stripped before looking them up like the Speller does. Look at word itself without the apostrophe. Initial Codes: ZZ18877 Expand Code When Highlighted Expand code only when cursor is HIGHLIGHTING the code. With codes in Initial Codes and the cursor is on the first letter of text the code expands to reveal all. This is confusing. Initial Codes: Headers and Footers Ability to place Headers and Footers in Initial Codes. Initial Codes: Style Ability to use a Style in Initial Codes. Styles are much easier to manage. If you have several different types of codes needed at different times to groups of documents, it is easier to change one style code, then to insert all the codes needed. Initial Codes: Outline Style Ability to place an Outline Style in Initial Codes. Initial Codes: Printer Commands Ability to insert Printer Commands in Initial codes. Install Printer: Source and Destination disks Ability to change the source and destination directories when at the Printer Install menu. Install: Master Diskette Either change the prompt of "Insert the Update Master Diskette into A:\" or include the writing of Update Master on the disk desired. Install: Utilities disk first Install the Utilities diskette first since that is the disk that is already in the drive. Install: Document Directory Create a document directory off the root directory as the default directory. This directory could then be used as the default directory for future updates and the user would not need to worry about moving documents when getting new versions. Install: Check Disk Space Display how much free disk space is available on the hard drive before Install begins. Also display how much room each utility or set of programs will take. This will help determine if there is room on the hard drive and which utilities they have room to copy. Install: Speller Utility into spell directory Install the Speller Utility into the speller directory specified during custom installation. INTL - Russian: Azerbaijani Support additional Azerbaijani characters in WP. Most of the Azerbaijani characters are supported using the Russian Language Module already. Currently the user must insert this in Initial Codes to change the default. Justification: Center - make tabs dormant When changing justification to Center or Right, make existing tabs dormant rather than deleting them. Keyboard Layout: Edit Macro, not Action When going to edit a macro, do not display "Action" as the editing choice, but display "Edit". This would make it more consistent with our other menus. Keyboard Layout: Original Keyboard Selected If no keyboard layout is selected, display Original or None as the selected keyboard. Keyboard Layout: Alternate keyboard as default Set the Alternate Keyboard as the default in Setup. This would make F1 as Help and Esc as Cancel as many other programs are. For example, this would make WP search for keyboards found in the Current directory, the directory specified in Location of Files and the directory where WP.EXE resides. Keyboard Layout: Alphabetize Alphabetize the listing of Keys. List all the Ctrl keys together, list all the ALT keys together and so forth. Keyboard Layout: Original Add "Original" to the keyboard layout listing and allow users to select this to return to the original/normal keyboard layout rather than selecting a menu option. Keyboard Layout: Edit directly into Edit Screen After creating a keyboard layout, you must press E to edit it. Take the user directly into the Edit screen after Creating the Keyboard Layout. Keyboard Layout: Highlight active keyboard layout Highlight the keyboard layout that is currently selected. This will be possible once the Normal Keyboard is added to the list. Keyboard Layout: D for Description or Delete Change the mnemonics for Description. "D" was delete in standard for menus and it was also in this menu in WP50. Labels: Error - minimum margins Change the error message when the minimum margins need to be increased to be more descriptive. Give ideas on how to fix this problem. Labels: Width by height List labels as width by height rather than height by width. Line Numbering: View continuously from page to page Allow continuous Line Numbering in Print Preview and not restart on each page. Line Numbering: 1-3-5-7-9 Ability to have line numbering start at 1, and print on every other line: 1-3-5-7-9. In WP51DOS level, only 2-4-6-8 is allowed. If this is not possible, then when a user turns Base Line on, have an additional option to set the fixed line height. The two commands are not next to each other currently and users are forgetting to set Fixed Line Height. Location of Files: Create directories Ability to create directories from Location of Files. Location of Files: Macros - network and user directories Be able to have separate directories for network macros and Button Bars and user macros and button bars. Location of Files: Macros and Keyboard Allow user to specify a network directory for keyboards and a local directory for macros. Personal and Shared directories. Location of Files: Several directories (path) Ability to two different directories for the location of one item. Search for the file in the first directory, if it is not available there, go to the next directory. Personal and Shared directories. This would allow you to have local macros or styles in the first directory specified and then system macros or styles in the next directory. Prompt for information and insert appropriate tildes. Macro Record: Name not execute Alt-Letter macro When at the Macro or Macro Define prompt, if a character is typed in and then deleted, the Alt-Letters will not be used as a macro name, but will execute the macro. The Alt-Letter should be used as the macro name. (Ctrl-F10, a, Backspace, Alt-A: The Alt-A macro is executed instead of being defined or redefined). Currently a single variable cannot be more than around 128 characters and two variables of 75 characters each cannot be compared. Macros Shipping: Calc - larger numbers Allow the calculator macro to work with larger numbers. Divide two numbers that are more than 4 digits. Multiply two large numbers together. Once floating point numbers are available in Macros, this will be easier. Macros: Mouse in Macros Ability to use a mouse to select items from user defined menus/dialog boxes. Macros: Merge terminates macro When defining a macro [Ctrl-F10], entering a Merge/Sort keycode via [Ctrl-F9] allows you to answer the filename questions, but the macro definition is terminated after the last answer is provided and the merge completed. It should allow you to continue definition of the macro but the end of a merge gives a "not found" which ends the macro. Macros: Editing add ability to see menus Ability to edit the macro and also SEE THE MENUS while editing it. There was one request to do it like Excels...have a vertical ruler that would have the macro editor on one side and have the menu interface on the other with each keystroke movement being shown on that side of the screen. Macros: Paired attributes in Editor Show the beginning and end gates differently in the Macro editor. Currently they are both shown in upper case. {UNDERLINE}{underline} Macros: Return length of string Add a {STRLEN} function to return length of a text string, not counting codes embedded in the string. Macros: Input and display on Check the state of Display before turning it on and if it was off turn it back off after a {Pause}, {Pause Key} or {Input}. This way, if certain things were performed a lot, they could be written once and shared between the macros. Macros: Block in Macro Editor Ability to block and copy text while in the macro editor. Macros: Tokenize Tokenize Macros. This would make it more like another programming language. It would make it easier to debug. It should make it faster. Macros: Step on to display command Display the command rather than a number when using {STEP ON} in a macro. Macros: {ON CANCEL} work with {PAUSE} {INPUT} When in (PAUSE} {PAUSE KEY} {INPUT}, have the {ON CANCEL} command work. Margins: Display order changed Change the order the Margins dialog box displays margins. Now: Left Right Suggested: Left Top Top Bottom Right Bottom Margins: First Line Indent Allow the user to set the amount of space to indent the first line of every paragraph. Margins: All together Display all margin codes together in the same menu. Mark Text: Footnotes, Captions Ability to mark text found in substructures, like Footnotes and Graphic Captions, for use in generated lists. Memory: Extended Memory Support Extended Memory. Menu Options: Like WPWin Menus Have WP DOS menus as similar to WP Windows menus as possible. Menu Options: Interface - Other Disk When prompting for "Other Disk" in Printer Select, Spell and other options, shouldn't be prompting for "Other Directory" or something like that since we are not really pulling files from the disks, but other directories. Maybe Other Disk or Directory? Menu Options: Typeover active When typeover is active in menus, display Typeover on the status line. Menu Options: String buffer Increase the number of characters allowed in many of the description and string buffers. There needs to be more room when International Characters are inserted. Menu Options: Valid choices Only accept valid responses on the menu lists. People complain that when they accidently push a "s" and not a "d", they are kicked out of the menu and have to start over. Menu Options: Cursor through options Ability to move the cursor (arrow down/up) though a menu for selection. For example, if I am on the print menu, when I enter into the menu, my cursor is on the first item (or default). I can press Down arrow to get to option 2 or Page. Etc. Merge: Graphic captions Ability to Merge into Graphic Captions. Merge: Print secondary file Ability to automatically print a secondary merge file in a readable format, where one record is not the only one on each page. Perhaps a macro to turn columns on, print the document, and restore the original. The problem is having the macro figure how big to make the columns. Merge: LEN Have the same syntax for the {LEN} command and PROMPT(prompt) command in both Merge and Macros. Macros displays the prompt command as PROMPT("prompt"). Possibly do away with the " marks. Merge: Display merge codes store with document Ability to turn Merge codes off for one document and store with document. Perhaps make this a code that is stored in the document or prefix. This allows the user to always have merge codes off for that document, but not others. Merge: Range Ability to specify a range of records to merge. Each record in the secondary file would be numbered sequentially, which would allow you to specify records 5-10, or 50-100. Merge: Tilde - Not Ability to change the tilde character to another character or have no tilde character. Customer uses database called Miratech which uses tildes as its word delimiters. Merge: More Rename the function "More" to Advanced Codes or something more descriptive than more. Merge: Hide merge commands In the primary file, do not format the document according to the text of merge commands. For example, when using long field names, the length of the name can change the placement of other text. If working with tabular columns and the name is longer than the tabbed field, the merged text will shift to the next tab, making it one tab stop to far to the right. Merge: Field:1 on status line In Secondary File, if the {END FIELD}~ code is deleted and there are no other {END FIELD} codes found in the document, do not display "Field:1" on the status line. Many people do not know that home, home, home, up arrow can get rid of it. Especially bad when they accidently press F9 and are not working with a merge file at all. Merge: Interface - entering delimiters Display on the status line of the "Setup: Merge DOS Text File" menu that you need to press F7 to exit out of the delimiters. Some users are trying to press Enter (which throws in a [LF]) to get out. Merge: Strip out characters Include an option within WP to strip out specific user defined ASCII Characters from the merge file. This way you wouldn't need to convert the files at all. Merge: Skip a line Allow an easier way to skip a line if all fields on that line are empty. Currently it requires many codes. Merge: Form/Data Change the name of Primary and Secondary merge files to Form and Data. Merge: Formatting HRt Ability to format a primary merge document with tabs and hard returns that do not print in the final merged document. It would make formatting of primary files easier. Merge: Select options Provide the user with a Select option in Merge which is much like the Select option in Sort. Perhaps show an example of the secondary records. Merge: Table for secondary Be able to place a secondary file in a table where the first row is the field names and each of the following rows is a record. Merge: Automatically Detect Type When entering into the Sort menu and you have a secondary file on the screen, have the Sort Type automatically change to Merge Type. This would help users from accidently sorting a Merge document with Line Type, thus destroying the document. Merge: Hide text of merge codes Ability to hide the text and trailing tildes associated with the merge codes. The option to hide merge codes only hides the codes. i.e. {ASSIGN}1~250~ gives 1~250~ If parenthesis are used rather than tildes, hide info in paren's. Merge: Display codes while merging Option to not display the following text and codes when performing a Keyboard Merge. This would provide a clear screen below the input prompt. Do this with a DISPLAY STOP code which the merge programmer can insert when needed. Merge: For Each Add the {FOR EACH} command to the Merge language. Merge: Current Document Screen Ability to use the current document on screen as the primary or secondary file. Merge: List to mark secondary records Ability to list secondary records before merging, and allow the user to mark those records they wish to merge. Allow up to 250 named fields. Merge: Display Long filenames List files at Merge prompts (sub document and master document prompts) should have an option to display the files in long filename display mode. Merge: To file, printer, screen Ability to merge directly to a file, to printer, to current document, to the next unused document. Merge: Display - no merge codes but text ok Enhance WP to not display merge codes and parameters to those codes in the block of text displayed after of an {INPUT} command. Merge: Comments and codes Ability to format the primary merge document in a readable format where the extra tabs or hard returns will not effect the outcome of the final merge document. Merge: Delimiters to be standard format used The default merge delimiter in setup should reflect the "standard" comma and quote delimited format that almost every program generates. Field Delimiters - Begin " End ", Record Delimiters - End End "[CR] Mouse Setup: Port ps/2 Besides the com1-com4 port selections, add an option for a MOUSE port (ps/2 or bus type). Mouse Operation: Outline Families Ability to move or copy outline families with the mouse. Mouse: Macro Commands When defining a macro, allow the mouse to select additional Macro Commands from the Macro Commands window. Currently, before each time a command is selected, the Ctrl-PgUp option at the bottom of the screen must be selected. This is even when the Macro Commands window is already displaying. Mouse: Math Ability to use the Mouse when working in the Math Definition screen, [Alt-F7, M, D in WP51DOS]. Mouse: Tables - scroll up and down Ability to scroll DOWN or UP in a table with the Mouse. This is especially important for difficult options. Mouse: Thesaurus Allow the mouse to operate while in the thesaurus menu. Mouse: Table cells into formula Ability to enter the cells for the formula in Tables Math. Select single cells or point on one cell and select another cell and use the range that is found between the markers. Ability to place the cursor on a cell to enter the cell position for the formula Mouse: View Document - page up and down Allow Page Up/Down, Screen Up/Down, Screen Right/Left in View mode using a mouse while in print preview/view document. Mouse: Rotate graphics Ability to use the mouse when using the rotate menu in Graphics Edit. Mouse: Hyphenation position Ability to use the mouse when prompted for the hyphenation position and pressing escape. Mouse: Return mouse cursor Return the Mouse cursor to the previous position in the text after answering Yes when deleting information. Move: Drag and Drop Selected Text Ability to drag and drop selected text to another location in the document. Have this work like Graphics when dragging and dropping it to another location in the document. Move: Not carry Style When moving a block of text into another document, have an option NOT to carry the prefix information such as the Styles definitions. They are not always needed. Move: Block chosen from Move Menu Allow Block to be chosen from the menu even when block has not been previously turned on. When this option is selected, turn block on at the cursor position and allow selecting of the block at that time. Network: Print - display more info Have the Select Printer: Edit menu display additional information when a network device is selected for the port. Right now in Network WP there is no way from looking at the port to tell if lpt1 is set for local or network printing. Or, on Novell, you can't tell whether the port is set up for a queue name or for printing to disk. Also include info on Suppress top of form. (e.g. Lpt1, Network, Suppress Yes.) Network: Save after network goes down Error - Can't find WP.FIL. Error - Save after network goes down -- Provide a better error message when the network connection is lost and the customer tries to save an open document. Support is complaining that customers feel it is a WP problem rather than a network problem. In the error message maybe we can say something like "Network connection lost, can't find program files..." Networks: User Id Longer Make the user id longer. Provide 5 characters. Networks: ENV file Ability to add any startup switches to the ENV file. /D /SA /PF Networks: Directory Alias used by all Ability to have one Directory Alias file shared by many users. Outline: Collapsible Outlines Hidden text with outlines. Collapse and expand text on specific levels. This would hide it from sight and from print when collapsed. Outline: Insert first level when turned on When Outline is turned on, insert the first outline number. Do not require that a hard return is pressed before anything happens. Outline: Space in User Number Definition Ability to insert a space (maybe hard space) into an Level definition. Wanted outcome is as follows: 1. A. 1 B. 2 Outline: Cancel from Copy Ability to Cancel out of a Copy Family operation in outlines. Page Numbering: Suppress and don't increment Ability to Suppress page numbering for one page and have the next page continue with page numbering, but NOT INCLUDING the page that was skipped. If pg 2 is suppressed, pg 3 is now pg 2. Can't hard code in Pg 2 for Pg 3 because editing will change that. Page Breaks: Display Display page breaks as "ÍÍÍÍÍ" and "ÄÄÄÄÄ" instead of "=====" and "-----" Page Numbering: Next page number, /B+1 Provide a code for the next page number, /B+1. This would allow you to have the current page number display at the top of the page and the next page number to display at the bottom of the document. Also referred to as Military Page Numbering. Paper Size/Type: Copy Labels Ability to copy or share Labels from one printer to another. Password: WordPerfect Program Ability to put some type of security so only the person who knows the password can run the WP program. Make this password definable by the user. Have multiple levels of security where one password entered as the program is started determines which directories and/or files can be viewed, edited, deleted. Database systems often have different levels of security. Password: Change Encryption Change the encryption method of password protection. For most times, there have been people that will unlock the files if the password was lost, but now there is a program that is sold commercially. Since there will be no way to protect against other individuals creating and selling such a program, we should change the encryption from time to time. We are requesting that now is one of those times. Password: Disable Ability to disable the option to set passwords on documents. Prefix: Files referenced in document Any files referenced in the document (sub-document, spreadsheet links, etc) must be listed in a prefix packet. Sending WP document through E-Mail should automatically include these files. Must be a good way to access the names. Print Server: Queue control Network Print Queue handling within WP. Allow postponing of jobs, printing at a specific time, changing the number of copies after you have printed it, show file size. Elapsed time for print job. So they would like the Control menu to still have control over the print jobs like PConsole does and have a little more. Print Pages: Odd, Even, Summary, Reverse options When selecting Multiple Pages to Print, have separate icons the user can click on for Odd, Even, Reverse. This would make the ability to print odd, even or reverse more noticeable. Of course, there is also the same problem with printing ranges or section numbers (3:1). The information is in Help. Print Pages: Beginning range Ability to specify a beginning range of sections that do not necessarily are the beginning of the specific section. For example, if I restart page number and restart it with #9, the section is considered to start at 2:9. If I choose Multiple pages to print and select 2:1-20, it will not print anything. BUT if I choose to print the multiple pages of 2:9-20, it will print the pages after page 9, even if they do not go up to page 20. Print Color: Color Graphics Support the printing of Color Graphics. Print: To Disk Prompt for Filename When printing a file to disk, have WordPerfect prompt you for the filename rather than making the user change the port each time a document is printed. Print: Sideways Ability to print sideways/landscape on a dot matrix, DeskJet, or any other printer that cannot rotate text or graphics by itself, without having to turn the paper. Print: Shaded graphics box printing white line Always allow graphics boxes that are shaded to print completely shaded. Currently, if a graphics box is shaded 100% and is printed on a PostScript printer with graphics quality set to either Medium or Draft, there is a white hairline that prints between the shading and the box border. If graphics quality is set to High, there is not a problem. Print: Last page to first Reverse printing to print from last page to first page. This is helpful when working with those printers that stack the papers backward. Print: Booklet/pamphlet format Ability to print document in booklet/pamphlet format. Provide two columns (labels) per physical page. For a 10 page pamphlet, the first physical page would have page 1 and page 10. The second page would have page 2 and 9. etc. Print: Fonts available Ability to print a listing of the available fonts of the current printer driver in their typefaces. Print: Macros Ability to print a macro. Printer Setup: Name Search to display Display N=Name Search or F2 on the Printer Select menu. Many people do not know this is available. Printer Setup: Other directory when Listing printers Option for Other directory when in "List Printer Files" in Printer Select menu. Printer Setup: Update keep AFC changes Allow adding new fonts and updating those automatic font changes without affecting other customized AFCs. If users customize their AFCs and later add a new font, the message asking "Do you want new automatic font changes?" does not allow creation of AFCs for the new font without destroying all customized AFCs. Printer Control: Percentage complete Display a percentage bar showing what percentage of printing is completed, or show Page x of y. Printer Setup: Select Font to display Exit Select Font menu should also display the keystroke or an option for exit. Printer Setup: Automatically install fonts found When building the PRS file, look in the specified directory for the fonts and then automatically add any compatible fonts to the font list or ask if they are to be used. This is what Lotus Manuscript and Digifonts does. Printer Setup: Name unique Make sure each printer PRS filename is unique. Do this by storing the filename in the ALL file for use rather than having WP generate the filename with some algorhythm when the PRS file is being built. Printer Control: Display more than 10 Display more than 10 print jobs at once while in Printer Control. Printer Setup: Automatically select SheetFeeder Automatically select a sheetfeeder when creating a PRS file for the first time. Printer Setup: Counter - Please wait Issue a *Please Wait* prompt when listing Additional printers. When you list the printer files on a Network Drive, it can take a while. This would insure the user that they did not hang. Printer Setup: Output Tray Option for an Output tray. Users need to be able to select an Output tray for their print job. Just like a sheet feeder has input trays, the completed print job can go to slot 1 or slot 3 or be sorted, etc. The new Sheet Feeders are coming out with these Output options. For example, this is good for Networks where I want to always have my print jobs in slot 16. Printer Control: Number of copies Display the Number of Copies to be printed in Printer Control while the print job is printing. Printer Setup: Saving changes When selecting the cartridges needed, [Shft-F7, S, E, C, S], the message instructs the user to press F7 to save changes. This only gets them to the first Cartridges/Fonts menu. Another message should be placed here [Shft-F7, S, E, C] that states press F7 to save changes the user will exit correctly. Printer Functions: Pause Printer Ability to pause the printer during the middle of a print job. This would allow the user to change color ribbons on a dot matrix printer, add carbon paper, etc. Printer Setup: Unmark fonts with Alt-F5 Ability to Unmark all marked fonts in the cartridges and fonts menu by pressing ALT-F5. Printer Control: Update job list continually Update the Job list by inserting those jobs that are listed in the Additional Job List when the room becomes available. For example, when Canceling a print job during an error condition does not move additional print jobs not shown up on to the display until there are not print jobs listed. Printer Control: Font not found When a download file is not found on disk include the font name in the error message. Several printers have soft font naming schemes that make it difficult to know what font is in error (ie. 22507.fnt, TV106e.asc). Printer Setup: Delete PRS file when deleting When a printer is deleted from the printer list, delete the associated PRS file if no other printers in the list use the same PRS file. PTR Fonts: Read font metric information Ability to install fonts by having PTR read in the font metric information directly from the font file (for those fonts that don't have auto font files). This would include reading .PFB, .PFB, and .AFM files. PTR Help: Help key displayed on main screen Display "F3 - Help" at the PTR top-level screen so the users knows what to do when they get in PTR. Especially important since PTR is shipped to all users without a manual initially (and still for WP51). PTR Help: Copy help screen info Ability to block and copy part of the Printer Helps and Hints from one printer definition to another. Useful if someone has customized their Help Screen and text applies to all printers in use. PTR Help: Conform to standard WPC help screens PTR help screen should conform to standard help screen of all WPC products. Help License # (maybe WP's?) PTR 3.0 8/20/90 Press any letter to get..... The list will include.... Press any function to get.... Some keys may let.....etc PTR Help: Screen Up/Down to work in Help Screen Up/Down to work in Help. PTR Help: Scroll through help slower Ability to Scroll through the PTR Help Screens at a slower pace. PTR Fonts: Create fonts easily Ability to easily create a font in the PTR program and specify that the font will print using the .DRS characters only. Currently the .DRS characters are only used if there is a printer font which does not already have a character built in. PTR: Colors Use the colors of WordPerfect Set File for PTR display colors. PTR: Print individual info from PTR Ability to print individual lists separately in PTR. These lists would include font lists with the ability to tell whether a font is marked with a plus or an asterisk, afc lists (this is the most requested list), variable lists, kerning lists, character map lists, proportional spacing table lists, and typeface lists. PTR: Macros in PTR Ability to define, modify, and use PTR macros in PTR and Editor. PTR: Interface Improve the User Interface for the PTR program. It is sometimes confusing and old fashioned. PTR: Name different for Shareable Library Currently it is possible to name a shareable library the same name as the printer. When a non-shareable library is added it also has the same name as the printer. This has caused some confusion among the users. Would it be possible to make it so when a non-shareable library is added, in addition to the printer name, it would also say (non-shareable)? PTR: Proportional spacing table position Move the menu item, "Proportional Spacing Table" in the "Size and Spacing" menu to the top of the menu instead of the bottom. This makes more sense, since whether you have a PS table selected or not affects the rest of the menu items. Repeat: Macro Editor Ability to use Repeat while in the Macro Editor. Retrieve: Retrieve into current document Option set for a prompt to display when retrieving a document with Shft-F10 into a current document, "Retrieve into Current Document?". This would make it work similar to List Files when retrieving into a current document. Retrieve: Current Document or Other Ability to retrieve a document into a new document screen if the current screen has a document in it currently. Retrieve: List Files for all menus Ability to list files from all prompts that request a filename: Primary, Secondary, Supplemental Dictionary, etc. Retrieve: More Noticeable Warning When retrieving a document that is already in use, provide a more noticeable warning that the document is already in use. Currently [] are placed around the filename and displayed at the bottom of the screen. Retrieve: List files after character typed After typing text in a filename prompt and deleting it, have the ability to enter into File Manager. Retrieve: Scroll through paths When retrieving a file, have the ability to scroll through the different directory names in order to pick the directory to retrieve the file from. Retrieve: Graphics Ability to retrieve graphics directly to the editing screen from the File Manager (Open/Retrieve DBs). Retrieve: Last document from previous session Ability to retrieve the last file saved from previous session, or allow easy retrieval of the last file worked on. Reveal Codes: Document Initial Codes Ability to see document initial codes in Reveal Codes. Provide a document style to accomplish this. Reveal Codes: Expand Code Ability to only show the detail of codes that the cursor is on. Show specific margin settings or specific contents of a heading only when the cursor is highlighting the particular code. All other times, show the "basic" command, [L Mar] [Header A], etc. Reveal Codes: Full page Ability to set the size of Reveal Codes to full page. Do not make the user have some lines of normal text. Problem is that you don't know where to place the status line. Reveal Codes: Tab Center and Center Line differently Display the Tab Center and a Center Line code differently while in Reveal Codes. When pressing Tab and then Center, you will Center the text on the Tab position. If the Tab is deleted, the text remains centered on the Tab position. The [Center] looks like a line [Center] although they don't perform the same operation. Customers are getting confused. Reveal Codes: Type of Tab Display the type of tab while looking at the code in Reveal Codes or show on Ruler. Save: Long filename to not prompt Option to not prompt for the long filename and type when saving the file on subsequent saves. Changes could be made by using Document Summary. Save: Default to Yes Change the default of Save and Replace to "Yes" when saving a file. This way, if Enter is pressed, all changes are not lost. Save: Interface - Document Description When using Long Filenames at save time, change the "Document Description" prompt to something like Document Comment or Contents. Some users are getting confused about whether to enter a path or the 8 letter character name. Save: 5.1/5.2 When selecting Save As, list one of the formats to save to as WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 so customers know we can also save to WordPerfect for Windows 5.2 format. Save: Text was not modified When saving, [F10], a document and it has not been modified, issue the prompt (Text was not modified) like it is when exiting. Save: Error - forward slash in filename Issue an error when a forward slash is used in the filename. Currently, wp will treat it as a valid character and the filename will be incorrectly saved. For example, C:\WP51\MEMOS/TESTING is saved. WP will save the file as C:\WP51\MEMOS\TE. During the save, WP will actually truncate the 8th character which is the last character in a legal filename save. In the example C:\WP51\MEMOS/TESTING, WP did not find a valid subdirectory separator, so it started counting at memos; if you count the forward slash as a character, that makes the e in testing the 8th character. The rest is truncated. Save: Scroll through path Ability to use File Manager to scroll through the different paths when saving a file. This would allow the user to select which directory to save their file in. Could even allow them to click on filename and have that path and filename be used for the current document. Search and Replace: Fonts specific type and size Ability to Search and Replace specific font types and sizes. Search for [Times Roman 12pt] as well as scalable fonts. Search and Replace: Dorm-HRt Ability to search for a [Dorm-HRt] code. Search and Replace: Replace String Have the previous replace string come up like the previous search string comes up. This would display the last replaced text and make it easy to repeat the same replace or edit it further. Search and Replace: Tabs Ability to Search and Replace specific tab types: Left Tab, Right Tab, Center Tab, etc. Search and Replace: Block Protect Codes The ability to search and replace block protect codes. Search and Replace: Code by name - Generic Ability to search and replace any code by name. This request is only for those who do not specify which code they want to search and replace. Search and Replace: Not Found Search and Replace word or phrase, it is not found, no message appears telling you that it is *not found*. If at the top of the document and initiate the search and replace, the cursor stays in the same place and no message appears, the user will wonder if it ever searched for the word. Search and Replace: Display Search string while Replace Have the Search String stay on the screen while you enter the Replace string for comparison. Search and Replace: Count Allow repeat count to work with search and replace. Limit the activity to finding N occurrences or end of file, whichever comes first. Editor has this. Search and Replace: List of WPC Codes Ability to bring up a list of WPC Codes and insert the code selected into the search string. This would work for all WPC codes such as SPg, DSRt, Footer, Endnote, etc. Search and Replace: Justification Ability to Search and Replace specific justification codes: left, right, center, (5.0's) off and on. Search and Replace: Count displayed Display how many times an item has been replaced. Search and Replace: Hard Row Ability to search for a hard row. WP60DOS calls this HRow-HPg. Search and Replace: Margins Ability to Search and Replace specific margin sizes. Search for a right margin of half an inch. Search and Replace: Dot Leader Tabs Ability to search and replace Dot leader tab stops and flush right with dot leaders. Search and Replace: Wild Card Provide true wild card search. Allow this for a single character (as search allows now with Ctrl-V, Ctrl-X in WPDOS51 or ANYCHAR in WPWIN51), as well as multiple characters. Search and Replace: Case specific Ability to search and replace text that is case specific. Ability to search for a lower case letter and only find the letter that is also lowercase. Search and Replace: Advance Ability to search and replace a specific Advance code. Search and Replace: Dsrt Ability to search for a [DSRt] code. WP60DOS calls this the TSRt code (Temporary Soft Return). Search and Replace: Overstrike Ability to Search and Replace specific Overstrike characters. Search for the overstrike characters of 0 slash. Search and Replace: HRt-SPg Ability to search for a [HRt-SPg] code. Search: Styles Ability to Search for specific Style Names. Search for the style named "Title". Search: Word Ability to search for only whole words. This would limit your search to words, rather than characters within other words. For example, searching for the word "to" will only find "to", not "towards", "tonight", "not", etc. Search: Soft Page Breaks Ability to search for all types of Soft Page Breaks. Shell: Go to OS from anywhere Ability to Go to Operating system like DOS or Shell from more places. If Shell is shipped with WordPerfect for DOS, this wouldn't be a problem. Sort/Select: Ignore Parenthesis Allow the select statement to include parentheses as part of the string to match. If users want to sort or select by area code, typically the area code will be inside parentheses. Currently, you can use parentheses as part of the value to be selected. Sort: Negative line sort (-1) Be able to specify a negative number for Lines when doing a Paragraph Sort. This is very helpful when sorting addresses. Addresses can be several lines long, but the last line is always where the zip code is found. If in a paragraph format (not merge), having a -1 line sort would be very helpful. Sort: Select to insert hard space Ability to insert a hard space into a select statement of sort. Sort: Ignore case Option to ignore the Case of words when sorting. Sort: Ascending/Descending Ability to sort one field in ascending order and another field in descending order at the same time. Sort: Extended characters When working with extended characters, make the Sort Select and the Search feature consistent. Currently, Search will only find exact matches. Sort will normalize the vowels so it finds the base character or the extended vowel. Neither consider the extended character that is a consonant. Sort: Columns parallel Ability to sort parallel columns. Sound: Add Add sound capabilities to documents. Spell Files: Hyphenated words Add hyphenation to words found in the common word list. Spell: Reveal codes Ability to not display the Reveal Codes bar during Spell check, but display a hard page break as in WP50. Those using a speech synthesizer have to read each tab of the RC line and it is a bother. Nicer if you had a choice. Spell: Confirm supplement add Give user option to confirm words to be added to the supplemental dictionary rather than just adding them. Or allow a more obvious way to edit the supplemental file. Many users don't know which file to retrieve or where it is stored. Spell: On and Off Provide On/Off codes for Speller in the document. This would allow the user to section off an area of text to not be spell checked when spell checking the entire document. Spell: Skip all occurrences When "not found" is encountered during Spell, have option 2 on the menu be something to "(2) Skip all occurrences" or "(2) Skip rest". Something to tell the user that all other occurrences will be skipped. Spell: Document Specific Ability to save words to a supplemental file that is stored with the document. This would allow one document to accept words that are very specific to the document. Spell: Current position to End of Document Ability to start spell check from the current cursor position and continue through the end of the document. Spell: New Interface Update the speller interface so it is easier to use and is graphical in appearance. Spell: Styles Spell check text that is in Styles. Currently you can invoke spell while editing the style. Spell: Irregular case and option 3 When an irregular case is found during Spell, do not have option #3 switch in meaning (from Add to Replace). Have option 3 suppressed and have Replace as option #6. Spell: Supplemental default Ability to have a default supplemental dictionary other than one named WP{WP}US.SUP. Spell: Default Ability to disable Checking words with numbers, wrong capitalization and double word from Initial Settings. Also be able to set default for document, page, etc. Spell: Return to screen When spell checking a page or a word, after pressing any key to continue, return the cursor to the editing screen rather than to the speller menu. Currently it does this to allow you to spell check additional information. Have a Setup option to have it work the same as when spelling a document. Spell: Supplemental not recognizing path New Supplemental dictionary does not recognize entry of a path and a name to specify a supplemental dictionary. Spell: Lookup Insert word Ability to insert a word you are looking up in Speller. In WP51DOS it allows you if you started with a spell check but not if you went immediately into the look up. Spell: Cursor through choices Allow the cursor to move you through the choices that are offered when finding a misspelled word along with the letter and number choices. Pressing Enter should select that choice. Spell: Word Count Add a Word Count button to the Speller DB. Users are used to having the two functions together. Spell: Code in middle of word When a word is divided by a certain codes, still consider it as one word. Do not have the Style or superscript codes as word delimiters. Spell: Supplemental Allow Larger Allow the Supplemental Dictionaries to be larger than 64K. There is a problem when people would like to have specific dictionaries for documents and they do not want to add specific Abbreviations to the main dictionary. Spell: Display Supplemental and Dictionary Display the active Supplemental file and Dictionary file when in WordPerfect. Spell: Mnemonics Use mnemonic keystrokes in spell. Spell: Case Sensitive Case sensitive options for spell check. Ability to add irregular cased words to Speller files. PhD, WordPerfect, UT, etc. Spell: Larger Main Dictionary Ability to have a larger main dictionary. WP51DOS design allows up to 309 indexes, which equals around 625k or less than 55,000 additional hyphenated words. The WP50DOS design allowed almost unlimited additional words. Perhaps allowing the ability to chain dictionary files. Speller Utility: Code in middle of word When adding words to the speller and there is an code in the middle of the word, do not have the speller break the word in two. Have the spell.exe strip out all "invisible" codes such as Styles. Startup Options: Documents Allow loading documents into DOC 1 and DOC 2 respectively from the command line: WP DOCONE.WP [DOCTWO.WP] [Options...] Status Line: Position shown for edit and reveal code Cursor position in edit screen and reveal codes do not match. Display problem. Problem with Tables, Boxes and Columns. For example, if a box is place directly before a column on code, Display is saving the current margin of the Box (after the margins have been adjusted for the box) as the margin to restore at column off. Status Line: Page Numbering show Roman Numerals When Roman Numerals are used for page numbering, the Status Line should display the page number in roman numbers, not arabic. Status Line: Font Display the current base font on the status line. Styles: Edit from Open to Closed Ability to edit a style and change it from an Open Style to a Closed Style and have the editing changes remain when exiting the menu. Styles: Outline styles in styles menu Do not display Outline Styles in the Styles Menu or issue message when user tries to turn them on from there ("Use Outline Styles from Outline Define menu"). Customers are confused when they can edit Outline Styles, but they are not able to turn them on from that point. Styles: Library Provide true library styles. Do not store the style with the document. When multiple documents all use the same style, changing all the documents merely requires changing the style in the library. Styles: Mark Ability to mark styles for saving and deleting several styles at once. Styles: Block section and apply paired style Ability to block a section of text to apply a paired style to existing paragraphs. An open Style will not help this. Paired Styles can have attribute codes that are to be turned on and off, or certain tab or indents, etc. Styles: Default System Have system default styles for a number of things like headers/footers, page numbers, footnotes/endnotes, etc. These could not be deleted. We already do this in the Options functions to some extent. We just need to formalize and expand it some. Allow page number style so not required to create header/footer (Just specify the location). Styles: Off codes - Paired, Font Allow the use of style off codes which change the portion of the document which follows the style off codes. Users feel this will give the Style feature increased flexibility and usefulness. (PAIRED, FONT) Styles: Copy style to create new Easy way to Copy a Style so you can use the codes and options of the one style, but expand on it. Styles: Comments Ability to insert user defined comments into Styles. Styles: Nested Ability to nest a style within another style. This would also indirectly include the ability to chain a style (a nested style can act as a chain style if last call in the first). Styles: Save only used Only save those styles that are used in the document with the document. Styles: Paragraphs Provide a paragraph style which would allow you to assign attributes, spacing or other formatting codes to a paragraph or all paragraphs within a selected/blocked area of the document. Styles: Filename When saving a style, display the original path and filename that was used to retrieve the style. Substructure: Show number When editing a substructure, display the number of the item which you are editing. Editing Endnote 1 or Table III or Header A. Substructure: Page Down, Up While editing a substructure (Header, Footnote, Graphics Box, etc), ability to go to the previous or next substructure in the document. Suppress: Multiple Pages Ability to suppress a Header, Footer or Watermark for several pages. System Administrator: % Login Ability to use the variable of %login_name (or equivalent) for the setup location of files. System Administrator: Update those not using WP Ability to update those users that are not currently using WP, and then notify network administrator of those users that could not be updated. System Administrator: Update Groups, rather than all Ability to update only specified groups of setup files rather than all files. Allow the system administrator to specify the groups and which groups to update. System Administrator: All options - Update All Ability to set all options found in Setup with NWP Setup. Long Doc Name. Backup Options. Fast Save. Pull Down Menus. Keyboard System Administrator: Date format Ability to set the Date Format with NWP Setup. System Administrator: Retain users printer settings When updating user's .set file with NWPSETUP or like program, retain the printer settings for each user. Fonts as well. Do not change the default printer. System Administrator: Expand Path F: Do not expand the location of a particular directory until the Set File is accessed for the first time. This would allow the administrator to enter F: for a location initially and have it not take on the mapping of the supervisor, but wait until the Set File is accessed by the user for the first time to expand. System Administrator: Local Printers Ability to update local printers. System Administrator: Cursor between options Option for the user to cursor between the update options before actually performing the operations. Tab Set: Tab Ruler at top of screen When setting Tabs, display the tab bar at the top of the document so more text can be seen and the results of the tab set can be seen. Tab Set: Show margins When defining tabs, display the current left and right margins on the tab ruler. Tab Set: Home, Home, Home, Left to left of screen Home, home, home, left should take you to the very left of the Tab Ruler when setting tabs. Currently it works as Cursor Left. Tab Set: Don't always insert "L" type When setting tabs, have the option to say 1,1C or 1,1R. for normal center or dot leader right tabs and don't only default to L tabs. Tab Set: Delete to End of Line Have an option on the menu to Clear All tab stops. Currently Delete to EOL (Ctrl-End in DOS) may be used, but many customers do not know how to access the keystroke. Tab Set: Exact Position When you are setting tabs, display the exact cursor position. Currently the tab ruler displays the marks but does not display the exact settings in inches (or in the units of measure). Tab Set: End to take you to right margin When pressing END in the Tab Set menu, position the cursor at the right margin setting of the current form. Tab Set: Display type of tab Display the type of tab selected, Absolute or Relative, rather than Type on the Tab menu. Tab Set: Interface - Easier Make setting tabs and using tabs easier. This is a general request where customers have not specified exactly what their problem was, but have had a hard time using tabs. Tables Lines: One common border Have ONE COMMON border that cells share. When setting Cell borders to NONE, automatically set those of neighboring cells to none. Having one common border that both cells share would make this possible and also help when setting lines in general. Define cell line ownership more clearly. Tables Format: For whole table Allow user to set format stuff (justification, attributes, etc.) for the entire table as well as for cells and columns. Cell and column attributes would have higher precedence. Tables Size: Interface - Number of rows Change the prompt when changing the Size of a table from "Number of Rows" to "Total Number of Rows". This would make it clear that the total is needed, rather than just the number of new rows that you want added. Tables Format: Stay in attributes menu When selecting attributes from the Tables Format menu, have the cursor stay in the attributes menu rather. This would make it easier to apply multiple attributes to cells or columns. Tables Math: Operator precedence Have formulas evaluated with operator precedence rather than left to right. This should apply to table math as well. Tables Math: Decimal places, more Increase the number of decimal places allowed in tables math for greater precision. Tables Lines: Shading not a line option Shading a Cell should not be considered a Line option since it effects the full cell and not only the borders of the cell. Maybe an option of Format. Tables Math: Range - SUM, AVE Additional math operations which can be performed on a range of cells rather than cell by cell. SUM(A1..E1) rather than A1+B1+C1+D1+E1. Allow SUM, AVE. Tables Headers: Discontinue, Add new, More than one Ability to have a header on the first page of a table and a different header on following pages. Tables Math: Rounding Option to round numbers up or down to a specific decimal level or the nearest whole number depending on what is specified. Tables Lines: Different Bottom Border Ability to have a different bottom border for the last cell before a page break than the top border from the top of the next cell. Currently WP uses the same border because if it printed it with its own bottom border, all tables that crossed a page break would have the last row of cells with no bottom borders as the default, which is not acceptable. Tables Lines: Outside independent borders Ability to define outside borders which are independent from the inside cell borders. This would be very helpful when tables cross page breaks. The rows which are next to the page breaks would use the same borders which are found at the bottom and top of the table. Tables Headers: Any row Ability to have any row in a table defined as a header. Tables Lines: Change all in block Ability to change all horizontal or all vertical lines within a blocked/selected area. Tables Format: Percentage Type Add Percentage type that would automatically display a % percentage sign with the numbers of the cell. Tables Format: Currency Type Add Currency type that would automatically display a $ dollar sign with the numbers of the cell. Tables Lines: 3D - Shadow effect Ability to specify shadow (3D) effect on a cell, row or entire table. Tables Format: Number of Digits set by cell Ability to format the Number of Digits for one cell, rather than just for Column. Tables Math: No thousand Separator Ability to have no comma/thousand separator when using the Tables Math and Math feature. Tables Math: Operator precedence Follow the usual operator precedence; multiplication and division first and then subtraction and addition. Tables Math: Update formula references Automatically update formula references when insert/delete/move rows, columns or blocks. Tables Math: Financial formulas Provide functions to determine the present value, future value, periodic payment. Perhaps with macros rather than with the math feature. Tables Math: Absolute Ability to copy Formulas in Absolute format. Option to not have the certain cell references change while copying the formula. Tables Math: tT - Total and Subtotal Add Subtotal and Total (t,T) features in Tables as Math has. The SUM() feature found in spreadsheet could also help address this. Tables Size: Insert Row at bottom of table Ability to insert a row below the current row. This would allow an additional row to be inserted to the very bottom of the table. Currently this is only allowed by increasing the number of rows with the Size option. Tables Math: Calculate all tables Option to calculate all Tables within a document at once. Currently you need to enter into Edit and do it manually for each Table. Tables: Shade in Color Ability to shade a cell or the entire table in a certain color. Tables: Undelete or Undo deletion Ability to restore an Accidental deletion of Table Definition code. Tables: Shading percentages for cells Ability to select different percentages of shading for different cells. This would allow one cell to be shaded 10%, while another is shaded 50%. Tables: Footnote positions itself wrong When placing a footnote in the bottom row of a table and the table spans two pages, the footnote prints wrong, one of two ways.
