R a c e N e t ( t m ) An International Computerized Motorsports Network Gary Phelps 9510 One Notch Road Ladson, South Carolina 29456 USA (803) 871-9771 (modem) (803) 875-2019 (modem) (803) 871-9560 (voice) Interested in motorsports and always wanted to communicate with other race & rally enthusiasts? Want to know the latest about motorsport events, even if these events take place on the other side of the world? Or do you want to tell the world about what's happening on your local speedway? The RaceNet network is set up just to accomplish that. Whether you are an interested spectator of race & rally sports, a director of a track, a PR representative of a sponsoring company, you are welcome to join RaceNet! All you need is a computer, a modem and a communication program and locate the nearest link to our network. In no way RaceNet wants to compete with motorsports magazines. On the contrary, it seeks the co-operation of magazines, radio and TV stations and recognizes that each of these has a special place and value to the world of motorsports. The RaceNet (tm) Network is a publicly accessible tool for communicating messages, opinions and ideas over great distances. Each message released through the RaceNet network has the potential to convey its information to thousands of people in a relatively short period of time, and this number of participants is growing by the day. Because the RaceNet network utilizes inexpensive computer hardware and software resources and standard telephone lines, it is easily accessible to a large number of enthusiasts. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ History RaceNet was founded by Gary Phelps (Ladson, SC USA), and Bob Simpson (Summerville, SC USA) and started in 1988 as a small motorsports orientated network serving the south-eastern region of the United States -- smack dab in the middle of NASCAR Country. RaceNet gradually started experiencing growing pains as more and more boards wanted the RaceNet conferences specific to every major motorsport and sanctioning body. The gradual growth suddenly took a gigantic leap recently with the expansion from the south-eastern coverage to jump out of the South and go coast-to-coast, and a little later even found its way to Canada and Europe. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Europe In Europe RaceNet enjoys the hospitality of FidoNet (tm), since this is the most spread and best accessible network open for everyone interested. By using existing network links, the RaceNet conferences can easily reach a BBS near you. To reflect this special status, the group of RaceNet originating conferences is referred to as "The European RaceNet" - founded by Rudi Kusters. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Conferences A 'conference' or 'echomail area' is a collection of messages with the same subject. Several types of motorsports are popular enough to have earned a conference dedicated to discussing only that type of motorsport. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Copyrights Because RaceNet is a public network, there's no such thing as a copyrighted message. This means that any participant may use the information from a message in one of the RaceNet conferences in any way he sees fit. 'Common sense and decent behaviour' however require that you give credits to the original writer of a message and to the RaceNet network when quoting information in a magazine, in a radio or TV broadcasting or for any other use. That's not asking too much, is it? The willingness of people releasing information in a RaceNet message depends on this. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ And What does it Costs You? Sorry to disappoint you there, but you don't have to pay anything to join the RaceNet conferences! Sysops of bulletin boards carrying these conferences often have to call long distance or even international to supply you with mail. Please consider a contribution in their phone costs once you frequently read or write in the RaceNet conferences. Some BBSes have a required fee before you can join international conferences. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ How to Join Best way to join the RaceNet conferences is to contact your regional echomail coordinator (REC) of the FidoNet network. You probably know a FidoNet bulletin board system (BBS) in your neighbourhood -- if so, start there by asking its sysop for the availability of RaceNet conferences. If that doesn't work, contact one of these people: 'RaceNet', Founder/Administrator 'RaceNet', Co-Founder --------------------------------- ---------------------- Gary Phelps Bob Simpson 9510 One Notch Road 138 Edgefield Ladson, S.C. 29456 USA Summerville, SC 29483 USA Node: CAROLINA Node: TANDY BBS: (803) 871-9771 BBS: (803) 875-2019 Voice: (803) 871-9560 Voice: (803) 873-2083 'European RaceNet' Managing Dir.
