AS OF 9-20-93 ============= Version 4.2 added the ability to install a single new font. I call this "Express Install." When you select Make or Modify Font Group you can install a single font immediately instead of creating an entire font group or installing an entire font group. You do this by single-clicking on any font name, either from the file list or the group list. At that time you will see a sample of the font plus, if the font is not already installed, you will see an "Express Install" command button. Click this command button to immediately install the new font. AS OF 9-10-93 ============= Version 4.12 added multi-line display with zoom. Now you can view type samples one at a time or several at a time. Also added minimize button. I disabled this prior to this release because I was concerned that too many resources might be used up at one time. However, I think that's really up to you on how you use your resources so I reactivated the minimize button (control box and maximize button in my opinion don't add anything useful to FontSpec so they won't be included). AS OF 9-7-93 ============ New release, version 4.1 includes major changes. Minor changes are: > Added registration requests. As of now there are well over 3000 copies of FontSpec distributed (Americia OnLine, CompuServ and CD-ROM), but only 11 people have actually sent in their registration. In order to continue to spend time upgrading this package and talking to users on the phone, I have to get a MUCH better return than that! > Modified Look & Feel. The best just got better! > Added print samples option to the printer screen. MAJOR CHANGE: Added Font Group Management Support. Now you can create customized font "groups", which means you can group your favorite fonts and name them in some meaningful way (for example, "My Favorites #1" or "Customer 117"). You can Make, Install, Delete and Modify an unlimited number of Font Groups. Each group contains fonts which you've added. As a suggestion, you should make a font group of your currently installed font list before experimenting with other font groups. Doing so allows you to restore your original fonts at any future time, if you so choose. This new feature (which some companies are selling for $50 to $89 all by itself) can be accessed from the FontSpec Printer Screen. SIDE BENEFIT: By selecting "Make" a font group, you can also preview TrueType font files before actually installing them. That means you can look at all the font files you want and, if you choose, not install any of them! AS OF 6-21-93 ============= Recompiled for Visual Basic 3.0 Fixed form-positioning logic for set-up form (very minor bug). Changed Icon colors (of application) for better visual appeal. Added starting page number option. This allows you to begin printing with any page number you want. Printing always begins with your first selected font, however the page numbers will print beginning with the page number you specify. Great for creating catalogs of various font groups with continuous page numbering (instead of starting at page 1 each time). Also, in case of an unexpected error (like a bad font file) you can restart the program and begin printing with the page number from the last good printed spec sheet. The page number can be set from FontSpec's Set-Up button option. Changed the paragraph text option so that the first word is the typeface name, in all caps (removing the "This is..." wording). Now you can see the typeface name in the event the font you are using only has upper case characters. Some LaserJet 4's have experienced problems when printing very large font collections. The problem seems to be that the Laserjet's memory is overrun, regardless of amount of memory installed. This appears to be isolated to the Laserjet 4 print driver. Selecting HP Laserjet Series II driver will not only clear up any problems but will speed up printing considerably, you can then reselect the 4's print driver when finished (but you may find the increased speed of the Series II's driver worth keeping). AS OF 5-05-93 ============= First shareware release. Verison 3.2 is an experiment in the shareware concept. If the concept works for this particular program then I'll continue to support it with ongoing updates and an open program (unrestricted use). Otherwise I may consider limiting the shareware version's capabilities. If you find this program of value to you please don't think that the "other guy" will send in his registration (he probably won't). So, I'm COUNTING ON YOU(!) to do the right thing: UniTech Corporation 2697 McKelvey Road Maryland Heights, MO 63043 Phone: 314 770-2770 Registration is just $25.00. (Do it. You'll feel great!)
