The .GL and .GLT files accompanying this text have been generated to enhance the enjoyment of the recently released Aces Over Europe. These files will alter the armament of the following aircraft as described. P51_D.GL Changes the basic armament from 6 X .50 cal. MGs with with 313 rounds per gun to 4 X 20mm cannons with 160 rounds per gun. The ammunition count is an estimate based upon similar aircraft. The only version of the Mustang to actually employ the 4 X 20mm cannons was the Mustang IA flown by the RAF. SPIT_IX.GL Changes the 4 X .303 cal. MGs with 300 rounds to the version used with the "E" wing: 2 X .50 cal. MGs with 250 rounds per gun. SPIT_14.GL Same as for the SPIT_IX.GL FW190_D.GL Changes the nose-mounted 2 X 13mm MGs with 475 rounds per gun to 1 X 30 mm cannon with 85 rounds and firing through the spinner. BF109_K.GL Changes the amount of ammunition for the 30 mm cannon from 60 to 65 rounds. I have two sources which give the figure of 65 rounds as the basic ammo load for this aircraft/weapon. The .GLT files give the amended text for the guns selected. This is the text that you see across the top of the screen when you toggle thru the guns by using the "G" key during the course of a mission. To use any of these modifications, just copy the .GL and .GLT files into your main AOE directory. That's all there is to it. Should you decide that any of the guns modifications are not to your liking, just DELete the associated .GL and .GLT files. The .BAT files will alter the file ORDNCE0.DAT file to reflect the changes made by the corresponding .GL file. The effect of these changes is to alter the text which appears in the mission pre-briefing screen. You don't need to use the .BAT files to have the new guns to function but it is less confusing to have the data displayed in the mission pre-briefing screen to match up with what you see displayed while flying a mission. To use any of the .BAT files simply load that .BAT and the same- named .TXT file into your main AOE directory and type the file name. Example - to execute the .BAT file for the Spitfire Mk IX, you would type SPIT_IX . I do suggest that you make a backup copy of the file, ORDNCE0.DAT before you execute anay of the .BAT files. The ME_109G.BAT file will also change the number of rounds for the underwing external guns to 65 rounds. WARNING: 1) When flying a contest, these alterations will have to be disabled. I have found that the easiest way to do this is to copy the .GL, .GLT, and ORDNCE0.DAT files to a subdirectory and the deleting these files from the main AOE directory. When the contest is over, then copy the files back into the main directory from the subdirectory. 2) Any .VCR file made which uses any of these modifications will not replay correctly on any system which does not have the same modifications. 3) Dynamix does not authorize nor officially approve of any alterations to any file included in the Aces Over Europe file set. If you install any of these modifications, you do so at your own risk. I have tested and played with these modifications for better than two months and have experienced no problems from having done so. Nevertheless, I strongly urge you to back up any files which you plan to alter before doing any such altering. Should you experience any problems, please contact me, not Dynamix. Have fun. James W.
