Course:Jellico Junction Location:Jellico, Tennessee Type:Fictional Season:Fall Background:Original Designer:Steve Holden The Course I started with two established trees and a palette with the oranges, reds and yellows of fall. After much adjusting and shading I was happy with the outcome and started adding objects one at a time with DPII and coloring as I went. Finally, after much adjusting and shading I had the colors for fall. Putting them on a trial hole I had made the color was really nice but with so many objects of bright colors they had a tendency to run together.I needed an object that I could use to break the pattern. What I wanted was a green tree that would also blend well with the mountains and creek that would run through the course.I settled for what I'll call a brush tree.I made it a little taller and much wider than the other trees and filled it in with groundcover and rocks. Now it was time to shade the fairway, rough, etc..Now let me throw in a little tip for new designer's about choosing a color for your fairways etc. When you get a shade your happy with you always want to put some objects that you will be using out there to check the shading effect. If you don't have a smooth transition between objects and rough, heavy rough where most of the objects are you have the wrong colors. You also want to get your sand and water shades at this time and check them also.Build a temporary trap and put a 5' deep hole in the middle to check the shade of sand and put some water around the fairway with objects to check the water blend.Happy with this it was time for the layout. The Layout I must refer to my last course to explain the layout.I just completed Siesta Key Resort an island course with the holes so congested that I had to do adjacents as I went.It was a very complex layout so for this course I wanted to spread it out.The end result is only two adjacents that you probably won't even notice.I did(G).Also Siesta was a Florida course and therefore very flat. so I had a need to ELEVATE!!You'll find an abundance of elevated tees, hills and mountains.I even threw in two waterfalls.I've been a little conservative lately(G).I also broke up the usual pattern, the front nine has three each par 3's,4's and 5's.The back nine has two 3's,four 4's and three 5's. The Play You'll find the play surprisingly easy if you stay on the fairway or rough. There is not much rough off the fairway before you get to heavy rough but if you ever play in the fall you know that off the fairway is murder and I wanted this course to be realistic.I'm not going to break down each hole as I feel every player see's each hole different and plays accordingly.I have a tendency to play conservatively and that works for me but the big hitter will have plenty of oppurtunities on Jellico. I'd like to thank Bob Polin for some groundcover and a golf cart I used on Jellico and also for all the encouragement and support he has given me.Thanks Bob and keep on designing for all our sakes.
