Kasparov beats Short in 7th game London- Garry Kasparov increased his lead in the breakaway world chess championship yesterday, decisively beating challenger Nigel Short in 36 moves to take a commanding lead after seven games. Grandmasters called it the best game of the match so far for Kasparov, the highest-rated player in history. The victory put him ahead by 5 1/2 points to 1 1/2 in the best of 24 match. A Ruy Lopez was used.
