The Association of Shareware Professionals is glad to now accept Associate members. The four categories of Associate member are outlined below. This document spells out the "official" membership requirements of the ASP. There are 4 separate application forms in the attached files APPRESS.TXT, APPUG.TXT, APPROBA.TXT, and APPFOS.TXT. If you are interested in joining, these files set spell out all the details. Thank you for supporting shareware. Last revision date, 2/15/93. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- All applicants and Associate Members must be, and continue to be, people dedicated to the advancement of the shareware principle and the supportive of the aims and goals of the ASP. All Associate Members will receive a subscription to the ASPects monthly newsletter and have access to the members only Sections and Libraries 10, 11, and 12 of the ASPFORUM on CompuServe. They will also receive the back issues of ASPects on disk. All Associate Member applications will be reviewed by a committee that will judge whether the minimum requirements are met. If there is a negative disposition, the BoD will automatically review the committee's actions. In case of a rejection for Associate Membership, the submitted dues will be returned minus a $15 processing fee. A list of Associate Members (except Probationary Members) will be kept current and made available to ASP Members and the public. Specific criteria for each category of Associate Member follows: - Press Members: $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1. - At the minimum, the applicant must have published works (books or major magazine articles) that have explained the shareware concept and the necessity for registration. - The Membership Committee will receive sample published works to help its process. - The Member must continue to be an active writer (generally considered to write at least one major item per year). - One copy of each article or book must be forwarded, free of charge, to the Executive Director for the ASP's files. - Press Members will be included as a choice in the monthly Group Mailing. - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as Associate Members. - User Group Members: $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1. - One person from the organization shall represent it and have membership privileges. - At the minimum, the User Group must be a non-profit educational organization with members, regular meetings, and a newsletter. It must actively inform its members about the shareware concept and the necessity for registration. - The Membership Committee will receive sample newsletters to help its process. - A subscription to User Group's newsletter must be forwarded, free of charge, to the Executive Director for the ASP's files. - User Group Members will be included as a choice in the monthly Group Mailing. - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as Associate Members. - Probationary Author Members: Dues to be the same as Author Members and will transfer upon acheiving full Author Member status. - At the minimum, the applicant must be actively working on one or more programs to be released as shareware. - The Membership Committee will receive previous works, documentation, or other materials helpful to the process of admission consideration. - Membership will be valid for ONLY 6 months before submission of one or more shareware programs to the Author Membership Committee. - Use of the ASP's beta test facilities on CompuServe will be allowed. - Where practical, Probationary Author Members will be assigned to "Big Brothers/Sisters" for voluntary aid, assistance, and advice. This normally requires the Member to have CompuServe access. - Upon acceptance by the AMC, membership will rollover into full Author Member Status. - Friends of Shareware: $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1. - At the minimum, the applicant must be a user and/or promoter of shareware. (This category is aimed at corporate MIS, educators, consultants, etc. rather than individual users.) - The Membership Committee will receive any materials available which will help with the process. Interviews and recommendations will be important. - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as Associate Members.
