INTERNATIONAL IMAGING MATERIALS, INC. PRESENTATION MAGIC! - SHAREWARE VERSON README.TXT FILE CONTAINING MOST CURRENT PROGRAM OR DOCUMENTATION CHANGES, OR OTHER OPERATIONAL HINTS. 1. While mentioned several times throughout the documentation of this program, it is critical that you are running the most current version of the printer driver supporting your color output device. During several months of research, it has been noted that users traditionally have out- dated print drivers and/or "borrow" drivers from other devices that seem to work. While in general a user may find this technique marginally effective, Presentation Magic! uses the information contained in the print drivers to set margins, establish minimum and maximum printable areas, and to support the latest Windows API calls. Outdated or "borrowed" drivers will provide mis-information to the program which will result in unpredictable or erroneous printed results. Users should check with their printer manufacturer for the most current versions. Many printer manufacturers are aligned with CompuServe and can provide current drivers electronically. 2. It is recommended that you select the printer you are planning to use as your final output device (using Control Panel) prior to beginning to use Presentation Magic! While Presentation Magic! will allow you to change printers at "print time", the program may be unable to fit all the text information you entered (if your original printer had a larger print window than that of your final output device). This most commonly occurs when you default to a laser or dot matrix printer, having large printable areas when creating the presentation, and then choosing a thermal or ink jet printer with a smaller printable area. The program now prompts you to select the default printer at program start-up. 3. It is very advisable to run the Quick Check program that installs with Presentation Magic! before beginning to develop presentations. The Quick Check program performs a number of checks regarding your computer and printer environments, looking for settings or defaults that may cause difficulties when developing and printing full coverage color presentations. One example is the "Transmission Re-Try" and "Device Not Selected" Values that are created when installing printers using Control Panel. They start at 15 and 45 seconds respectively. These default values are inadequate for full color raster or Postscript processing. We recommend 999 and 999 seconds respectively for color printing purposes. 4. Please don't be impatient! If you are running the minimum configuration (a 386 type PC) your processing is going to appear slow. Color graphics work is extremely resource intensive and the recommended configuration (a 486 type PC) will provide greatly superior performance. This fact generally applies to all graphics software where color is a major component. Highlight color or other low color coverage applications are generally impervious to the 386/486 differences other than the obvious improvements gained from a faster processor. 5. There has been an improvement in the interface screen for bullet and free-form text. Since the documentation was printed, we have consolidated the "spacing" and "bullet style" selections and provided a brief line of instruction to indicate when these features are active. The "bullet" and "sub-bullet" selection is noted as active after you hit the enter key, while the "spacing" and "bullet style" buttons are active before you hit the enter key. 6. There currently exists a problem when backspacing over a bullet style when it is the last line in the text entry. The program stays in the Wingdings or Symbol font (as the bullet style is one of these font styles). If this occurs, please select the Font button, and then select the correct font desired. 7. The text editing facilities in Presentation Magic! version 1.5, have been enhanced to provide a user changeable default font/size setting. To use this feature, select the font button on the text control console, choose a font style, size, etc. and upon returning to the text control console, engage the "Set As Default" button. This selection will stay in effect for the duration of the presentation, unless reset by the user. 8. The Quick Reference Card indicates that the user needs to traverse up or down the scale representing the number of slices, bars, or lines from the control panel to change the size of the graph sample. This has been modified in the production version to enable the user to either toggle up or down using the arrow buttons in the control panel, or to type in a new value as desired. Clicking in the graph area will cause the program to automatically re-size and re-draw the graph to the new size value. 9. The program has been enhanced to include a default font/size setting for the top title feature. This will enable the user to select a font and/or size desired for all top titles, and by engaging the "Set As Default" button from the Top Title menu, will retain those settings for the duration of the session, or until reset by the user. Note: The "Set As Default" settings for the Free-Form or Bullet Chart slides operate independently of this Top Title default feature. 10. While not specifically noted in the Quick Reference Card, Presentation Magic! does support the Windows based form of "cutting", "copying" and "pasting" text. Within the Free-Form or Bullet Chart selections, highlight the text you wish to act upon, and perform the following: a) shift/delete key(s) provides a "cutting" feature b) ctrl/insert key(s) provides a "copying" feature c) shift/insert key(s) provides a "paste" feature 11. The program allows you to move through the number of slides in a presentation by use of the arrows on the control pad. In addition to this technique, you may highlight the "slide #" from the slide identifier frame in the lower left hand corner of the screen, and directly type in the slide number to which you want to move. 12. The line graph has been enhanced to permit "null values" to be entered at the end of a line series. This is particularly useful if you wish to develop a two series (or more) line graph, with one series representing plan numbers, and the other line series representing actuals; where the actuals available are less than the number of points in the plan series. By using a double asterisk, i.e. ** in the value field, the graphing function will terminate the line with the last non-asterisk value. 13.
