Change Summary (since version 2.01) New things in Version 2.02: =========================== * Added toll-free 800 telephone support line: (800) 262-0827 (USA only). * Allowed FONTEDIT to edit bitmap versions of TrueType fonts embedded within documents printed to disk from within Windows 3.1. * Printer related funtions (downloading, printing, etc.) are unavailable if running FONTEDIT in a Windows 3.1 DOS session on a network. * Bug fixes: - Converting a font from fixed width to proportional had corrupted character widths & heights. - Could not read certain fonts with short headers. - Hercules video support didn't work. - PCL 5 compressed bit map fonts weren't being saved correctly. - Didn't preserve the state of the NumLock key when exiting. - If aborting while defining a new font, the zero-length file wasn't deleted. * Documentation changes: - Added this file. - Added description file "file_id.diz" to the shareware version. - Minor changes to the manual on disk and "read.me" file. New things in Version 2.1: =========================== * Preserves font file's date & time if no editing changes are made. * Four guidelines (baseline, x-height, M-height, and p-height) are now displayed for each character of portrait fonts when not in zoom mode. * The font's filename (without drive or path) is now displayed in the lower right corner of a VGA display. * New functions added: - The editing area of a character can be automatically expanded up to the maximum number of rows & columns allowed by the cell width & height. The editing area can also be trimmed back to its minimum size. This can be done for individual letters or font-wide. - Individual pixels can be toggled on or off with a mouse when in Row/Col Insert/Delete mode. - Any combination of up/down/left/right can now be used in the bolding and thinning algorithms, rather than 1 pixel in all directions. - Default filenames are supplied when importing from graphics files or other font files. - When a mouse is present, arrow keys and ENTER now can also be used to navigate around a pick list and choose. - During pixel edit, the Home and End keys can be used to move the mouse or crosshairs to the upper left corner or lower right corner of the character. - When starting FONTEDIT, if the letter "A" is not defined in the font, the next higher ASCII value in the font will be displayed instead. - The arrow keys can be used to change what character is displayed. The ASCII value will be scrolled up or down. - The resize option can now be performed font wide. Every character will be resized by the same number of pixels, and the pixel change can be set independently for horizontal and vertical. - Arrow keys are handled differently while resizing a character (either a single character or font wide). The arrow keys cannot be used to reduce the size of a character to fewer than 5 rows or 5 columns. Also, the blinking box will not wrap to the minimum size if attempting to resize beyond the cell box. - Alt-d and Alt-p now work with the Caps Lock key on. - When pasting from FONTEDIT's clipboard, the image can also be ANDed with the character underneath. * Bug fixes: - Mouse moves more smoothly if continuously holding down a mouse button while setting or clearing groups of pixels. - Bolding algorithm didn't work when a character had 3 or fewer rows or columns. - When resizing a character or changing a font's point size, the old character wasn't always completely erased when it had a negative left offset. - The row expansion value wasn't correctly calculated for some cell heights when no mouse is used. - The message "Quitting FONTEDIT. Are you sure?" didn't get erased if you aborted quitting immediately after deleting a character. - No longer crashes if importing more than 1 character from a TIFF image wider than 638 pixels. - Now makes a backup file even if SHARE.EXE is loaded. New things in Version 2.11: =========================== * VGA colors (foreground & background) can now be customized for any VGA adaptor. * Corrected the error message if trying to run the overlay file. * Credit card orders for the enhanced version of FONTEDIT are now accepted and cleared by the Public Software Library (PsL). See the READ.ME file for complete details. New things in Version 2.12: =========================== * Bug fixes: - When attempting to run FONTEDIT from a write protected disk, changing the VGA colors would cause a crash, since FONTEDIT was trying to write a configuration file with color information. Now, custom VGA colors can't be saved from one session to another if running off a write protected disk. - If SHARE.EXE was loaded, escaping to DOS with Alt-D would cause a crash when quitting FONTEDIT. This did not cause any loss of work, but would cause temporary scratch files to be left behind. Fixed. New things in Version 2.13: =========================== * Rearranged questions in a more natural order if creating a new font from scratch. Also, supplied default answers to all questions. * Bug fixes: - After importing a .PCX picture smaller than the cell size, the left offset wasn't correctly set. - When importing a 2nd character from a .PCX picture smaller than the cell size, should not have asked to select a subportion of it. - When not using a mouse, changing the cell width or height to the largest allowed would cause the cell box to disappear. - Fixed error 5 problem when saving the 1st character in a font created from scratch. - The guidelines weren't moved properly if the letters they were calculated from were deleted.
