=========================================================================== BBS: The GWE BBS [ASV] [CIN] Date: 01-23-93 (08:10) Number: 99 From: CAROLINA LOVER #3 @6385*1 Refer#: NONE To: ALL Recvd: YES Subj: Garlic Potatoes Conf: (37) Home Cooki --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an excellent German recipe for Garlic Potatoes. 3 cloves garlic 2 Tbl butter 4-6 medium potatoes 8 oz Half-and-Half or Heavy Whipping Cream 1 pkg Gouda Cheese (7 oz) 1/2 lb thick bacon (cut into small pieces) 1 can mushrooms (4 oz) salt and pepper to taste Directions: Sprinkle a little salt on the garlic and mash it with a knife until it turns frothy. Mix with butter and coat a 13x9 cassarole dish (sides and bottom). Cut potatoes into paper thin slices. Spread out half of them in the cassarole dish. Sprinkle the bacon, mushrooms, salt and pepper on the potatoes. Then spread the other half of the potatoes on top. Sprinkle more salt and pepper and then pour the Half-and-Half or Whipping Cream on the potatoes. Grate the cheese (I think this kind is best but use your favorite) and sprinkle on the very top. Cook at 400 degrees for about 50-60 minutes. When the cheese starts to brown, cover it with aluminum foil. Dish is ready when a knife will easily slip into potatoes.
