Ingredients needed: 2 eggs 1/4 cup Milk (approx.) 1 pack onion soup mix 4 cups of Oats Dash of Sage (optional) Cooking oil (preferrably corn oil) 1 cup of finely chopped broccoli (only the head...not the stalk) 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup (or dark mushroom is a change from the norm) Mix dry ingredients. (oats and onion soup mix, dash of sage optional). Add the 2 eggs, chopped broccoli and milk. Only use enough milk to give the oats enough moisture to stick together. Add another egg if necessary. Warm some cooking oil in a frying pan. Make patties out of the oatmeal mixture. The patties should be gooey enough to stay together...so don't add too much milk. If you do, just add another egg to even it out. Brown the patties in the oil. You'll need to add oil now and then. Set the patties aside on a plate. Now you have 2 options: 1> Make an oven dish 2> Make a pot dish. You can add the 2 cans of mushroom soup to either a casserole dish or a big pot/pan. The main idea is to add the water specified on the cans of mushroom soup (2 cans total), mix the soup and water until soupy. Add patties and simmer until thickened to your specifications (should be like gravy or somewhat). I've tried both ways of making oatmeal patties and have found that a casserole dish gives less of a chance of breaking apart the patties. While the mushroom soup thickens, the oatmeal in your patties get cooked. The two tasts of onion/brocolli/sage/oatmeal and the mushroom soup blend together well. Make sure you keep the patties covered with the soup. Serve as a main dish when soup is at desired thickness. Makes about 10-15 patties. Recipe can be doubled with great results. This is one of those foods that taste better after refrigerated overnight. Nuke it. Enjoy! This is for all of you vegetarians out there. Some people say these patties taste like salisbury steak, but I think they have their own unique taste. My mother used to make these when I lived with her. Since we were into vegetarian food, we tried this and loved it. Mom made this recipe herself.
