After you hull them,which is remove the leafy top.  Then slice, or if you
prefer to leave them whole just wash them.  I use a strainer and run
some water over them.  Then put them in a bowl, sprinkle your sugar
or sweetner on top, add a few tablespoons of water, and refrigerate.
This helps the juice come out.  Some people add a tsp. of lemon juice
you can if you want to.
