File Garbage Can For Windows 3.x 09/04/93 REASON Ordinary DOS and Windows file deletes are NOT secure. The file is merely marked as deleted but the data in the file is still sitting on the disk. Any undelete program or disk scan program can access the data on the disk. It remains that way until another file happens to overwrite the disk area. Garbage Can will take care of the security problem that occurs with an ordinary file delete. We GUARANTEE the deleted file can NOT be recovered. VERSION We maintain no version number since we can not seem to keep track of them anyway. We track our projects by date. The date that appears on this documentation and in the 'About' dialog is the release date. OPTIONS VERSION FOR WINDOWS 3.1 The version for Windows 3.1 is GARBAGE1.EXE and will not run in earlier versions of Windows. GARBAGE1 runs the same as GARBAGE0 but has one added feature. It allows you to 'Drag And Drop' files from the Windows File Manager program on to the GARBAGE1 minimized icon. Any file dragged on to the icon will then be processed according to the way you have the program options set. UPDATES 07/19/91 First release. Uploaded to CompuServe and a local BBS in Salem, Oregon. If there is no date in the About dialog, you have the first version. 07/21/91 Date field added to About dialog. Also, cursor now changes to hourglass during file delete. This version was not released to the public. 07/30/91 'Secure Delete' option added to menu. Command line option was also added to program. 07/31/91 Program can now be started as an inactive icon from the command line. 10/02/92 Change File 'Open...' to File 'Delete...'. Create second version for Windows 3.1 Zip file now contains Garbage0.exe (for Windows 3.0 & 3.1) and Garbage1.exe (for Windows 3.1) 04/12/93 Do a couple of screen clean-ups. Add BWCC.DLL to Zip file. 08/22/93 Add help file. Make minor change to "Secure Delete" function. Do somemore screen clean-ups. Add help file but forget to include it in the ZIP file. 09/04/93 Delete command-line feature. Add another level of delete security. Add initialization file (garbage.ini) feature which replaces need for command-line. Make sure the help file is in the ZIP file. SHAREWARE Garbage Can is distributed as Shareware.
