PCBOARD and Microcom V.Fast Installation TIPS ============================================= ---------------------------------------------------------------- Here are some comments which may help you get off to a FAST start: In PCBoard, the SYSOP configures the software for a parti- cular modem using the PCBModem utility. Until Clark Develop- ment makes available a new release of PCBModem which includes the DeskPorte FAST modems, you can use the following procedure: 1. In PCBModem, select Manufacturers group C and then select 'MicroCom' (yup, they got our name wrong...). Select item F - the QX/4232bis. Answer the next questions as appro- priate for your installation. Leave the port opening speed at 38400 for now; you can change it to a higher speed later if your installation can go faster. Be sure to select the COM Port that goes with your new DeskPorte. Answer Yes to the 'Do you wish to proceed...' question on the next screen. When the modem has successfully been initialized, create the new file and exit from PCBModem. 2. Now for the REALLY IMPORTANT step - run PCBSetup, either from the DOS prompt or from the SYSOP screen. Select C - Modem Information, then A - Modem setup. On the Modem Setup screen, move down to the Modem Initialization String. Here you need to make some modifications to the string that is there, changing the string to be: DeskPorte FAST ==> ATM0H0S0=0 DeskPorte FAST ES ==> ATM0H0&C1&D2\A3 Next escape back until you get the 'Save configuration...' prompt. Answer Yes to save this new modem configuration and exit PCBSetup. Now bring up the board and give it a try! ---------------------------------------------------------------- You shouldn't have any problems, but if you do and need some help, here are some options: 1. Call the helpline for your BBS software. These folks know what the BBS software expects from a modem. 2. Call Microcom's Tech Support at 1-617-551-1313, 8 AM-7 PM Eastern time or the Tech Support BBS at 1-617-255-1125.
