Unzip the file ZCOMLITE.ZIP with PKUNZIP 2.04g or higher. You will have the following files: ZCOMLITE.GEO STREAMC.GEO README.TXT First you must create a directory in which to place ZComm Lite. The directory you need to create is \GEOWORKS\WORLD\ZCOMM. This directory can be on your B: drive or on the C: drive (PCMCIA card). If placing on the C: drive, you MUST create all of the directories specified. If you intend on using an internal PCMCIA modem, such as the AMT StarCard, then you MUST create the directory on your B: drive. Next place the file ZCOMLITE.GEO in the ZCOMM directory you just created. Lastly place the file STREAMC.GEO file in the Zoomers B:\GEOWORKS\SYSTEM directory. To run ZComm Lite, use the Launcher hard icon, select ZCOMM and then select ZComm Lite. After the initial greetings dialog box, you are presented with another dialog box requesting you select a default COMM port. If you are using an external modem select the RS-232 option. If you are using an internal PCMCIA modem card, select PCMCIA. *** Note, the only PCMCIA modem I have been able to test with is the new AMT StarCard. I have not tested the modem to DEATH, but tests that I have done show the modem works well. MENU OPTIONS FILE Send File - Allow sending of an ASCII file Receive File* - Currently disabled Capture Off/On - Allows specification of a capture file to open/close eXit - Shutdown ZComm Lite Comm Hang Up - Drops DTR for 5 seconds Send Ctrl-C - sends Control C out serial port Clear XOFF - sends XOn (Ctrl-Q) out serial port Send Misc - sends Misc field of current DD record Initialize Modem - sends initialization sequence to modem Redial Last - redials the last selected phone number Window Dialing Directory - brings up DD phone list Settings -> - allows setting communication parameters Com Port Baud Rate Parity Bits Length XStop Bits Mode Protocol Help Content* - currently disabled About - displays the About dialog box Info - displays diag info for ZComm Lite All of the above options are self explanatory except for Dialing Directory. ZComm Lite allows you to keep four phone entries for your most often called phone numbers. Each Phone Directory record contains four fields. Those fields are: Name, Phone, Params and Misc. Name is not currently used by ZComm Lite other than to give the user a descriptive title for the record. Phone contains the phone number to call. Params is not currently used, it's intended purpose is to allow the user to define on a record by record basis how the communication port should be setup. Misc currently, is usable by Zcomm Lite for sending of passwords, etc. to host systems. As an example, if one of your entries was for Compuserve, you would place your UserID and Password in the Misc field. Then when you receive the ID: prompt you would select menu option Comm | Send Misc and it would send the info. For this example Misc would look like '7xxxx,xxxx/cccccccccc'. The buttons on the bottom of the dialog box have the following uses: 'Nxt' and 'Prv' buttons to navigate and display each record. 'Save' button to save any changes to a record. 'Ok' button to call the currently viewed record. 'Quit' button to cancel without calling. DISCLAIMER I have tested this program pretty completely both in simulation and on my own Zoomer. I have had no problems, but then I wrote the program and I know what I should do and not do. That having been said, I must make the following disclaimer statement. I will not be held legally or monitarily responsable for any damages or loss of data incurred thru the use of ZComm Lite. Use it at your own risk. All that having been said, ENJOY. ZComm Lite, being a FREEWARE program, will have no further features added. It will be maintained and any bugs reported to me will be fixed in future revisions. For a full feature laden version watch for the announcement of the Commercial shrink wrapped version called ZComm Pro. Thanks, Kerry W.
