WinMed (c) iDRSystems Ltd 1993 Thank you for trying the shareware version of WinMed. > To install WinMed you need to be in Windows' Program Manager. > Choose (File) then (Run). Type a:setup and press OK. > Follow the instructions on screen. WinMed will install into its own group as we prefer this for future addons. If you wish you may, once it is installed, move the icon to another group and to delete the WinMed group. The upgrade does not rely on its presence. **************************** IMPORTANT! ***************************** POINT 1 ... There are some peculiarities in the Setup Kit supplied with Visual Basic that are outside our control. Setup transfers three files, including VER.DLL and VBRUN300.DLL to the Windows\System directory before our setup code is even loked at. This would be ok BUT Windows does not want to overwrite newer versions by the versions being transferred and 'bombs' out without so much as a 'by your leave'. THEREFORE ... if you find that the setup refuses to transfer either of the above two files and returns you to Program Manager - Microsoft have suggested that VER.DLL and VBRUN300.DLL are WRITE PROTECTED i.e Attributes set to read only in your Windows\System subdirectory. Do this in File Manager. Select one of the above files with a single click, choose (Files) then (Properties) and click on the [Read Only] selection. Do this for both files. When you then install, and Windows says it cannot copy these files, click OK and the installation will continue. POINT 2 ... As usual Norton's Desktop for Windows may throw a wobbly if being used as the default desktop manager. If you have this installed, revert to Program Manager before installing WinMed. Even when Running WinMed, NDW may still have problems with deciding which window is active and requires to be on the top, ie visible to you. Solutions to the above will appear in a future update but the time taken to write code for this is innapropriate at present, we feel. Thank you and we hope you find WinMed useful. Don't forget to register if you do. That way we'll be able to continue working on it and increasing its scope and interest. iDRSystems Ltd.
