The Lands of Wonder Stories by Lord Dunsany (Shareware version) Edited by Jim Henry III Published 1994 "Without a sense of mystery a man may be a scientist, a mathematician, or many other things, but he cannot be a poet, for he has no land to travel in, no pasture on which to graze Pegasus, the frontier of the man-of-the-world lying just outside the edge of the lands of wonder." -- Lord Dunsany, _Patches of Sunlight_ Table of Contents Title File Size (bytes) =========================================================================== The Gods of Pegana: Contents, Preface, Prologue PEGANA00.TXT 2,182 The Gods of Pegana PEGANA01.TXT 897 Of Skarl the Drummer PEGANA02.TXT 1,911 Of the Making of the Worlds PEGANA03.TXT 2,514 Of the Game of the Gods PEGANA04.TXT 2,121 The Chaunt of the Gods PEGANA05.TXT 799 The Sayings of Kib PEGANA06.TXT 691 Concerning Sish PEGANA07.TXT 2,536 The Sayings of Slid PEGANA08.TXT 3,997 The Deeds of Mung PEGANA09.TXT 2,816 * The Chaunt of the Priests PEGANA10.TXT 963 * The Sayings of Limpang-Tung PEGANA11.TXT 3,855 * Of Yoharneth-Lahai PEGANA12.TXT 1,139 * Of Roon, the God of Going PEGANA13.TXT 6,125 * The Revolt of the Home Gods PEGANA14.TXT 4,173 * Of Dorozhand PEGANA15.TXT 3,555 * The Eye in the Waste PEGANA16.TXT 2,678 * Of the Thing that is Neither God nor Beast PEGANA17.TXT 5,269 * Yonath the Prophet PEGANA18.TXT 1,978 * Yug the Prophet PEGANA19.TXT 630 * Alhireth-Hotep the Prophet PEGANA20.TXT 662 * Kabok the Prophet PEGANA21.TXT 2,859 * Of the Calamity that Befel Yun-Ilara PEGANA22.TXT 3,626 * Of How the Gods Whelmed Sidith PEGANA23.TXT 4,861 * Of How Imbaun became High Prophet PEGANA24.TXT 4,922 * Of How Imbaun met Zodrak PEGANA25.TXT 4,217 * Pegana PEGANA26.TXT 5,744 * The Sayings of Imbaun PEGANA27.TXT 2,771 * Of How Imbaun spake of Death to the King PEGANA28.TXT 1,250 * Of Ood PEGANA29.TXT 1,547 * The River PEGANA30.TXT 4,031 * The Bird of Doom and the End PEGANA31.TXT 2,556 * Preface to _Time and the Gods_ PREFACE3.TXT 250 Time and the Gods TIMEGODS.TXT 6,613 The Coming of the Sea COMESEA.TXT 10,247 A Legend of the Dawn LDAWN.TXT 13,915 * The Vengeance of Men VENGEANC.TXT 6,725 * When the Gods Slept GODSLEPT.TXT 12,329 * The King That Was Not KINGNOT.TXT 3,929 * The Cave of Kai CAVEKAI.TXT 9,954 * The Sorrow of Search SORROW.TXT 12,085 * The Men of Yarnith YARNITH.TXT 13,148 * For the Honour of the Gods HONOUR.TXT 6,649 * Night and Morning NIGHT&M.TXT 4,810 * Usury USURY.TXT 4,881 * Mlideen MLIDEEN.TXT 2,807 * The Secret of the Gods SECRETG.TXT 4,600 * The South Wind SOUTHW.TXT 5,193 * In the Land of Time LANDTIME.TXT 17,096 The Relenting of Sarnidac SARNIDAC.TXT 9,415 * The Jest of the Gods JESTGODS.TXT 1,652 * The Dreams of the Prophet DPROPHET.TXT 5,338 * The Fortress Unvanquishable, Save for Sacnoth SACNOTH.TXT 36,712 * The Lord of Cities LORDCITY.TXT 14,301 The House of the Sphinx HSPHINX.TXT 6,043 * The Loot of Bombasharna SHARD1.TXT 9,701 The Distressing Tale of Thangobrind the Jeweller THANGOBR.TXT 8,450 Bibliography of Lord Dunsany's works BIBLIO.TXT 14,246 Table of Contents (this file) CONTENTS.TXT 7,723 Publisher's catalog PUBLIST.TXT 18,019 Order form ORDERFRM.TXT 1,477 File description for BBS's FILE_ID.DIZ 252 * - not included in this shareware release ------------------------------------------------------ If you have never read any of Lord Dunsany's stories, you have a great treat ahead of you. Dunsany was one of the best stylists and storytellers of the twentieth century. Don't take my word for it; go read the stories, and come back here later. Note that the stories from _The Gods of Pegana_, filenames PEGANA00.TXT to PEGANA31.TXT, should be read in order; otherwise, suit yourself. This is the shareware version of "The Lands of Wonder," released on BBSs as DUNSANY3.ZIP. If you would like to order the full version with all fifty-five stories, see ORDERFRM.TXT for details. This is the third collection of Lord Dunsany's stories that I have published in electronic book form. The earlier two were _The Exiles Club and other stories_ and _Bethmoora and other stories;_ the shareware versions were DUNSANY1.ZIP and DUNSANY2.ZIP respectively. I said in the introduction to _Bethmoora_ that this third collection would "hopefully include the remainder of _Plays of Gods and Men_ and all or most of _Tales of War_;" well, it doesn't contain any stories from them. It does contain the entirety of _The Gods of Pegana_ and nearly all of _Time and the Gods_, with a few stories from _The Book of Wonder_ and _The Sword of Welleran_. These stories were first published between 1905 and 1912, and are all in the public domain. I would like to thank the Emory University, Augusta College, University of Georgia, Clayton State College, Henry County, and Clayton County library folks for their help in obtaining the texts from which I worked in preparing this collection and the two earlier ones. -- Jim Henry III
