RESOURCES p.45 Handbook on Population, 5th Ed. by Robert L. Sassone Self-published, 1994; 118 pp. The fifth edition of Robert Sassone's Handbook on Population is a most impressive piece of work. It contains an enormous amount of valuable information in a very small volume - I know of nothing like it. I thought I knew the literature in the field rather well, but in just the first few minutes I read it, I picked up a couple of lovely and useful tidbits. Most important, Sassone gets just about everything right. Furthermore, he has done an extraordinary amount of work updating all the tables and figures since his last edition. The data should be considered up to date even by the pickiest journalist. (The notion of "old data" is almost completely nonsense anyway; things don't change in a couple of decades.) It will be a great pleasure to see the Handbook in print again soon, reaching thousands of people with its important data and ideas. It does a wonderful job. - Prof. Julian Simon Is the Fetus Human? by Eric Pastuszek TAN Books, 1993; 76 pp. For more than two decades the pro-life movement has worked to convince the American people that the child in the womb is obviously a human being needing legal protection. Now they have another weapon in their battle to change hearts and minds - Eric Pastuszek's new book, Is the Fetus Human? Pastuszek addresses this question by gathering evidence from biological, medical, emotional, legal, cultural and social perspectives. This thorough examination of the abortion crisis helps pro-lifers refute the hollow arguments of those who ignore the facts about the person in the womb. The book includes not only basic biology and fetology, but statements from former abortionists, photos of preborn babies at various stages of development, extensive research on post-abortion syndrome, an overview of the present legal climate, biblical evidence to support the personhood of the preborn and an overview of the increasing social resistance to abortion through non-violent direct action. Is the Fetus Human? offers pro-lifers, especially those who are new to the movement, a powerful tool to refute the pro-abortionists. The book also serves as an excellent resource book for students - it should be in every school library! Whether you are preparing to debate a pro-abortion activist, write a letter to the editor, or convince that confused friend that a person really does live in the womb during pregnancy, Is the Fetus Human? gives you a full overview of the overwhelming evidence to prove that the preborn child is very much human. - Greg Chesmore A.L.L. national field director.
