ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ IconView ³ ³ ICOVU.EXE v0.95 ³ ³ March 21, 94 ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ INTRODUCTION ------------ I was looking for a utility that would display all the icons in a directory a screenful at a time. Since I couldn't find an adequate one, I decided to write one myself (plus, it would give me a chance to play with Visual Basic). I figured I'd upload the utility to CompuServe so that others could try it and (and perhaps find it useful). This is not shareware - you are not *required* to pay for using it. I am very interested in any comments, suggestions, ideas you might have. If you think of a feature that would be useful, please let me know; I might add it as time allows. WARRANTY -------- There is NONE. This program works on *my* system as *I* want it to. There is no guaranty that it will work for you as you want. You use it at your own risk. INSTALLATION ------------ 1. Copy ICOVU.EXE and ICOVU.INI into any directory of your choice 2. Copy THREED.VBX and GRID.VBX into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory; if they already exist, keep the ones with the later date 3. Make sure that you have VBRUN300.DLL in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If not, you can download it from CompuServe (MSBASIC) or a wel-stocked BBS 4. Edit the "StartDir" and "IconEditor" options in ICOVU.INI to point to the start-up directory and icon editor of your choice USAGE ----- There isn't a whole lot of functionality, so the interface is pretty straight-forward. The program starts up by displaying any icons in the start-up directory (set in ICOVU.INI). It can display up to 110 icons on a 640x480 screen, 182 on a 800x600 screen. If there are more icons in the current directory than will fit on the screen, the vertical scroll bar will be enabled. Click anywhere on the bar to scroll a screen at a time (above or below the scroll box depending on the direction you want to scroll). You can also drag the scroll box itself to a desired point on the bar. You can change the directory to view in the directory list box. Below that is the total number of icons in the current directory. I've come across several icons (from various sources including CompuServe) that don't load properly; they're probably defective in some way. The program will display a message box telling you the name of the file it couldn't load (and a blank icon will be displayed in it's place). If you check the "Auto Skip" box (which is checked by default), the program won't display the message box. If you click on any icon on the screen, its filename will be displayed above the "Auto Skip" check box. Double-clicking on an icon will launch the designated icon editor with the icon as the parameter (so make sure your editor can take a filename as the command-line parameter). To print the current screen of icons, click on the print button. Clicking on the Stop button quits the program.
