Newsreader 3.03 - A Newsbytes Reader for Windows 3.1 (NEWS3D.ZIP) Updated EXE for Newsreader 3.0 You must have download NEWS3A.ZIP and NEWS3B.ZIP (there file names may be different on your system - look for Zip File A and B) previously for these files to work. Simply copy this new news3.exe file to the same location as your current \newsread directory. If you want to be completely safe, rename the current news3.exe to news3.old first, as a backup. Version History - 02/23/94 03:00 news3.exe > Original release of Newsreader 3.0 - 03/07/94 03:01 news3.exe > Newsreader 3.01 Fixes: - Stops almost all crashes due to abnormally large Newsbytes files. Some users will have experienced problems, as Newsbytes increased their file size 40% two days after Newsreader's initial release. There may still be the occasional problem, but it will only result in the slight truncation of a single story. A complete fix is in the works. - 04/17/94 03:03 news3.exe > Newsreader 3.03 - Added rotating backups of the database (0 to 5 possible). See online help, under Database->Other Features for more information. - Added the ability to compress the database, for people with large files. Select Database->Compact Database, from the program's main menu. - Program now displays a More... option when you have more than 16 folders. Selecting More... shows you a list of the remaining folders that are not displayed. You can now, therefore, have as many folders as you want. - Added the ability to parse files that are distributed on some Apple Macintosh BBS. Newsreader still supports Ziffnet and the native UNIX ascii format. Please do not hesitate to write me if you find a Newsbytes file that is not working with Newsreader. I am doing my best to make it compatible with all the various Newsbytes formats in circulation. Paul Kaliciak CompuServe 70242,3375 Internet paul.kaliciak@canrem.com
