                         COMPAQ LICENSES STACKER 4.0
                Industry Leading Data Compression Technology to Now
                     Ship With Compaq Personal Computers

      CARLSBAD, Calif., March  22, 1994  Stac Electronics
      (NASDAQ:STAC), the leading supplier of data compression products
      for increasing the storage capacity of personal computers,
      announced today that Compaq Computer Corporation has licensed
      Stacker 4.0 for Windows & DOS to ship with Compaq desktop and
      portable computers.  Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
      
      "Compaq customers have become accustomed to getting the
      additional disk capacity that compression provides," said Lorie
      Strong, Compaq vice president, Portable and Software Marketing.
      "And with Stacker 4.0 pre-installed, we are able to provide our
      customers with an industry leading compression product."
      
      Stac's agreement with Compaq comes less than a month after Stac
      won a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft Corporation
      and Microsoft’s removal of the infringing DoubleSpace compression
      technology from MS-DOS 6.2.
      
      Stacker 4.0 for Windows & DOS is the latest release of Stac's
      award-winning software that includes advanced compression
      technology for more than doubling a system’s hard disk capacity,
      new safety features for enhanced reliability, and a comprehensive
      tool set for using Stacker and managing Stacker drives.
