      CARLSBAD, Calif., April  6, 1994  Stac Electronics
      (NASDAQ:STAC), the leading supplier of data compression products
      for increasing the storage capacity of personal computers,
      announced today that it is extending its Stacker 4.0 for Windows
      & DOS upgrade to users of the new generation DOS's: MS-DOS 6.0
      and 6.2, PC DOS 6.1 and Novell DOS 7.
      
      With the Stacker 4.0 for Windows & DOS Universal Upgrade, Stac is
      offering new generation DOS users its special upgrade price,
      which until now has been reserved solely for Stacker users. "This
      upgrade provides a clear upgrade path for MS-DOS 6.x users," said
      John Bromhead, Stac's vice president of marketing. "This is also
      a natural upgrade for Novell DOS 7 users who already benefit from
      the integrated Stacker 3.1.  And since today IBM announced that
      future versions of PC DOS will include Stacker, we are also
      extending this upgrade to current PC DOS 6.1 users."
      
      Stacker 4.0 for Windows & DOS, shipping since February of this
      year, is the latest release of Stac’s award-winning software and
      the first product to break the 2:1 data compression barrier.  By
      integrating Novell's DOS Protected Mode Services, Stacker's DOS
      memory footprint has been lowered to 17 kilobytes below 1 MB when
      running a new generation DOS.  In addition, Stacker 4.0 includes
      new safety features for enhanced reliability, and a comprehensive
      Windows tool set for using Stacker and managing Stacker drives.

      The Stacker 4.0 for Windows & DOS Universal Upgrade is available
      today through resellers packaged in the standard Stacker 4.0
      upgrade box.  To enable the new Universal Upgrade feature, users
