Listed below are most of the changes made to ReadIt since version 3.05. Minor bug fixes and slight modifications made to improve overall performance or appearance might not be listed. COMMAND LINE: - You can get a listing of command line switches by typing "READIT /?". - The "resume" or "return" switch (/R) can be used to return you to the last file for which you set or changed a bookmark. PICKLIST: - You can now access compressed files within compressed files. - When a narrow picklist is displayed, the string "\" is shown rather than two periods (..). - You can now decide whether to use an asterisk (*) or the word "tagged" to indicate that a file is marked. Now, if there is enough memory, ReadIt will keep the picklist in memory when files are marked and you press ENTER to view one. TEXT VIEWER: - Pressing shift-3 (#) gives you a percentage of the total file which the current line represents. - Next and previous text block. (previously undocumented) - Next and previous paragraph. - Next and previous page. - Timed scrolling. - Quick-search key commands. - Special pair of quick-search keys for "content" search. - Memo/note editor. Lets you take notes while reading. Use a separate note file for each file viewed, a single note file for each directory, or a single file for all notes. Adjustable note sizes from approximately 4k to 64k. RIC: - Two command line switches have been added to RIC to make it easier to change your personal settings when you upgrade to a future version of ReadIt. These are "/S" to save your settings to a disk file called "$RIC.DAT", and "/U" to update the new version of ReadIt with the settings in the file. - You can set up a temporary work directory where ReadIt will place those files which are temporarily extracted from archives. - Select whether to use memo/note editor, maximum size of notes, and directory for note files. **** NOTES ARE LIMITED TO 4000 BYTES IN UNREGISTERED VERSIONS **** - You can now set the following ReadIt command line switch defaults with RIC: Cursor wrap; Line numbers on status line; display current directory on exit; - You can tell ReadIt to use a "swapping" DOS shell when you press F10. - You can tell ReadIt to use XMS for the swapping DOS shell. - You can set a switch in RIC to have CFDir suppress information displayed by the decompression utilities it calls.
