We have looked around and saw that all of our SysOps that were putting their USA Today online were using doors that either cost alot or had a long shareware delay in them. So here it is! For you, the Planet Connect SysOp, a freeware door for your BBS! You can use this door on as many nodes as you want. It will even handel the updating of the USA Today files as they come down the satelite. Sit back, read and follow this doc, and watch your users smile. First Things First ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The first thing you need to do is to make sure you have a ANSI driver loaded. If you are under DESQview the DVANSI will do, if not, just use any old ANSI driver. The door needs this driver in order to show ANSI colors. Next make a directory on your hard drive called USATODAY. You can either make it off the root directory or off from your BBS directory. After you do that, goto that directory and unzip the contents of this zip file there. Now for the fun part...making the config file! Configuring USADoor ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ You will need to make a different CFG file for every node you run. We recomend calling them either USADOORx.CFG (Replace the x with the node number) or USADOORC.xxx (Again, replace the x with the node number). Inside these files you need the following: C:\PCB\NODE1\PCBOARD.SYS <-- Location of the Drop file (*) Planet Connect <-- Name of the BBS Jimmy <-- SysOp's First Name Songer <-- SysOp's Last Name C:\USATODAY\USATODAY.ZIP <-- Path & Name of the Zip (**) C:\USATODAY\GSZ.EXE <-- Name of the X/Y/ZModem (***) C:\PCB\NODE1\WORK <-- The Node's Work Directory 1 <-- This Node's Number port 2 <-- The port parameter for DSZ(****) (*) - You don't have to use PCBOARD.SYS. The door also supports DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.BBS, and CALLINFO.BBS. (**) - This is the path and name of where the new USA Today ZIP files come to when thay have been recieved by the Planet Connect software. (***) - You must use a X/Y/ZModem protocol driver that supports DSZ/GSZ command lines. Also, use DSZ.COM if you don't have much memory when running the door. (****)- Set this line to you comm port (ex: port 2 for com 2). If you have a non-standard comm, use the portx xxx,n parameter. (xxx is the Address and n is the IRQ. ex: portx 2f8,3 for com 2). For more help on this see the documents for DSZ/GSZ. Making USADoor's Batch File ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Here's the part you have to do on your own! You need to make the batch file your BBS will use to run the door. Use the command line info on the next page to set it up. Planet Connect's USA Today Door p 3 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Drop File Support ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The Current BBS Drop files currently being supported are: PCBOARD.SYS DORINFOx.DEF USERS.SYS SFDOORS.DAT DOOR.SYS USERINFO.DAT CALLINFO.BBS GTUSER.BBS TRIBBS.SYS Fossil Driver Support ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The door supports the use of Fossil drivers. To tell the Door to use the Fossil driver instead of the standard COM ports, just put /FD on the command line when running the door. For example: USADOOR USADOOR1.CFG /FD indicates that a Fossil driver is present and should be used. If no Fossil driver is detected, DoorFrame will print a message to that effect and exit the door gracefully. Environment Variables ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DoorFrame supports COM 1-4 on the standard IRQ's - COM1/COM3 = IRQ4 and COM2/COM4 = IRQ3. If you wish to use a non-standard IRQ, add the IRQ number after the configuration filename. The command line passed to your Door would be: USADOOR USADOOR1.CFG /5 or USADORO USADOOR1.CFG /%IRQ% for the environment variable. The /5 tells the door to use IRQ5 rather than the standard IRQ4 that is normally used with COM1. No /x parameter is needed for the standard IRQ's. When specifying the location of the system file on line 1 of the doors .CFG file, you may use the environment variables %pcbdrive%, %pcbdir%, %pcbnode%, and %wcnodeid%. Some examples: PCBoard: USERS.SYS in C:\PCB - %pcbdrive%%pcbdir%\USERS.SYS USERS.SYS in C:\PCB\NODE1 - %pcbdrive%%pcbdir%\NODE%pcbnode%\USERS.SYS Wildcat!: USERINFO.DAT in C:\WC\NODE1 - C:\WC\NODE%wcnodeid% Non-PCBoard systems may use the PCB environment variables by setting them in either AUTOEXEC.BAT or in the batch that runs the door. For example: SET PCBDRIVE=C: SET PCBDIR=\BBSDIR SET PCBNODE=1 Planet Connect's USA Today Door p 4 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ SysOp Keys ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Up Arrow Add Time to the User Down Arrow Subtract Time from User Right Arrow Add 1 to the users Secuirty Left Arrow Subtract 1 from the users Secuirty F3 Toggle PCBoard Print Option F4 Toggle PCBoard Page Avaliable F5 Shell to Dos F7 Toggle PCBoard Alarm F8 Dump user back to board F9 Toggle the display on and off F10 Enter Chat Mode (ESC to Exit) Troubleshooting ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ You may encounter some trouble with the door. Nothing is perfect but we try. The big problem you need to look out for is if the door crashes while it is updating the USA Today files. If that happens, none of your users will be able to get back into the door! What you need to do to fix it is to delete the file $UPDATE$.USA from the USATODAY directory. Closing ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Well I guess that's about it. Now you can really sit back and watch your users have hours of fun with this door.
