II. Introduction WIN2002 is a program designed to do what it's name implies, WIN at Tradewars 2002! This program (at this point) will find all of the trading pairs available in the sectors you have explored. What does this mean? Well, trading pairs are two ports that are just opposite enough to earn you a substantial revenue. For instance, if there were a port in sector 100, and it was a BSB type of port, and there was an immediate wap to sectore 332, where there was a SBS port, this would be a trading pair. So the definition would be two ports, one sector apart, that complement each other's stock of wares. What's this mean to you? Well, it means you run back and forth between these ports and have more money than you know what to do with! I used this game in a small (1000 sector) universe and made 1 million credits in about 45 minutes, in a large (5000 sector) universe I made 3 million in about 90 minutes. Not bad, and just more than enough than you need to get to power! This program came to me after trying to find something that would allow me to find pairs without doing it by hand. I downloaded every single Tradewars tool on the market (at least it seems that way) and they all worked fine for 1000 sector universes, and only for version 1.03 or less! With the release of Wide Beta 5 Tradewars, there has been no updates to these utilities, so this was born. This is a BETA TEST copy, which means it's freeware for now, you can use it all you want and not pay, but BETA means it's under testing, you hopefully will help me debug this to the point that it's perfect, and in the long run, better than any other Tradewars utility. Please let me know, via the support BBS, any problems, suggestions, or general comments you have regarding this program, and if I incorporate those into the program, you will get the next full version for free, whether I charge for it or not. Heck, even if you don't find anything wrong, please call the board and tell me you downloaded it (that's always a good piece of information to have for a shareware author). III. Using the program Using WIN2002 is easy, I have enclosed a script file for TELIX that will put the computer into interrogation mode (if you don't know what this is, you'll find out eventually). If you have a different script that does the same thing, fine, as long as the format is the same as the WIN2002.CAP file included with this ZIP. Whatever you use the name of the capture file MUST be WIN2002.CAP for the program to work. My script requires that you be at the command screen, NOT the computer and NOT the corporate menu's. When you have finished the capture (preferably after you have played that game for a while, since the information will be most current then), run WIN2002. The program will create a text file called WIN2002.TPS, this is a list of all trading pairs for that game. Just run between them all and watch the $$$$ roll in! IV. Some strategy regarding trading pairs The most profitable pairs are going to be the ones best matched, for instance, if "Port A" was selling 2500, and "Port B" was only buying 1090, this would mean you would dry up "Port B" before "Port A" really got started. So the best ones will be the ones that are as evenly matched as possible, and at 100% demand. V. Upcoming things for WIN2002 Some things that are already being incorporated into this program and will be available on the next release are: * Track down one way warps and dead ends (great for strategic placement of fighters and mines). * Automatic script writing, once the pairs are compiled, you will have an option to automate a script for it so that when you play again, you just execute the script and sit back while the dough pours in! * Exploration scripts, these will take the information that you have, find out what you HAVEN'T seen, and write a script that will allow you to see those places in as few turns as possible (great for finding other trader's home planets as well as the Class 0 and 9 ports). There are some other things I have thought of that I haven't been able to figure out how I'm going to do yet, but when I do, you'll be the second to know (me being the first) :D. VI. Registration Right now this program is free and totally uncrippled, as it is a BETA copy, and I would never be able to debug crippled copies. I am a strong believer in shareware, and that crippled shareware sucks! If I decide to charge for this program, something nominal like five or ten bucks, it will NOT be crippled, although it may not have some extra features, like automated scripts or whatever. I don't consider that crippled, but just an enticement for registration, crippled would be only showing you the WORST trading pairs or something. As a BETA, this copy expires 12/31/1994. So after that you will need to call Crystal Shard BBS at (303) 763-7687 to download either the latest BETA or the latest FULL version. This program WILL NOT WORK after 12/31/1994, so I would call in advance (we wouldn't want you to be without your most used utility). VII. Finally Thanks for using this program. This is a very addictive program, as is the game. I found that once I used this I could hardly even play without my trading pairs worksheet in front of me. I don't just say this because I wrote this program, but because even when the other programs worked on the old versions of Tradewars, I used them more than I used my keyboard! Thanks to Martech for writing the BEST BBS door in the WORLD! Thanks to Simon for letting me hack his Tradewars game and tie up his BBS for hours on end (of course he does the same thing, even worse, so I guess he should thank ME)! Thank God for giving me the patience to sit down and write this thing and blowing up my own Tradewars game in the process!
