CLIENT.EXE This is a self-extracting archive. The install program will copy this file to your TBCLIENT directory and extract the following files: a. TBCLIENT.EXE - The client program b. TBHOST.HST ---- Revision history d. HOLIDAYS.DBF - Database of holidays that are used with the popup calendar. 3. INSTALL.EXE This is the installation program. It is used to install the Host and Client software. 4. RESTORE.EXE This is a Restore Utility for TeleBack. It can be used to help you do data restorations for your clients. Other zip utilities can be used instead, if you prefer. Section 1 Hardware & Software Requirements: 1. 386SX (or better) with MS/PC DOS 3.3 or greater; 2. hard disk drive, 100 megabytes available for archiving purposes is recommended; 3. EMS version 3.2 or greater and/or XMS version 2.0 or greater for computers running TBClient. (1 meg minimum of EMS or XMS is recommended) and; 4. Telephone modems (14.4K or greater recommended). Modems should be equipt with v.42/v.42bis Assumptions: 1. You know how to create a hard disk directory or subdirectory. 2. You know how to copy files from a floppy disk to a hard drive. 3. You know how to execute a DOS program. 4. You know how to install a modem. If you are unfamiliar with any of the above, please read your DOS manual or get help from a professional computer consultant. The TeleBack client software (TBCLIENT.EXE) requires that PKZip & PKUnZip be located in your DOS path. We are including the self-extracting file PKZ204G.EXE for your convenience. PKZip is distributed under the 'Shareware' concept, which means that you must register it if you intend to use it. The cost (as of this printing) is $47.00 in US funds. Section 2 TeleBack Overview: TeleBack operation is simple. How it works: TeleBack was designed to operate with minimal operator intervention. The backup process is controlled by the TBClient software. There are two modes of operation, Manual and Automatic. They are explained in more detail later in the manual. The actual backup process works the same in either mode with one exception: Manual backups can be Incremental or Full Backups (see Commonly Asked Questions) The process works like this for both modes: 1. Determine the type of backup to perform. 2. Execute a batch file (if present). 3. Send previous backup file (if the previous xfer failed) 4. Gather and compress the files with a user-defined password. 5. Set up the modem. 6. Dial the phone number (redial if busy) 7. Establish a communications link. 8. TBHost asks for access information. 9. Perform the upload if access is accepted. 10. Execute a batch file if present. 11. Disconnect. Common Command Line Switches: In TeleBack, as with other programs, Command Line Switches are a series of slashes and letters that are typed in on the command line directly after the program name. These 'switches' allow TeleBack to perform certain functions during startup. The switches that are common to TBHost and TBClient are listed below. Those switches that are peculiar to each program will be listed in that section of the manual. Force TeleBack to display suitable colors for a Monochrome monitor: tbclient /m or tbhost /m Force TeleBack to display in color. You would use this if TeleBack was having a problem recognizing your color display adapter. tbclient /c or tbhost /c Start TeleBack automatically in any batch file with this next switch. tbclient /a --- Auto start in 'Auto Backup' mode tbhost /a ---- Auto start in 'Wait for Calls' mode Force TeleBack to run in "TelePower" mode. tbclient /tp or tbhost /tp Display a Help Screen describing the command line switches. tbclient /? or tbhost /? Installation: TBHost & TBClient - 1. Make a backup copy of your program disk. 2. Insert the TeleBack program disk into drive A (or B) and type: a:install (then press the Enter key) 3. If that statement is missing or is less than 15, then the screen in Fig. 2 will be displayed. If you have elected to have the install program make the changes for you, you will need to re-boot your computer so that the changes that were made will take affect. You may enter any valid hard drive letter that is attached to your system. Enter the hard drive letter and press the Enter key. 8. Now you need to enter the directory where TBHost will reside (see Fig. 6). When it is finished, you will be returned to the DOS prompt within the directory where TBHOST.EXE resides. Follow the instructions on the screen to start TBHost. When you are ready to install TBCLIENT.EXE, return to step 1 and perform the same procedures, substituting TBClient for TBHost where appropriate. Jump to step 16 now if you are installing TBClient. 10. Select 'Accounts' on the Main Menu, then select 'Add Accounts'. Before you can receive uploads from your TBClients, you need to enter client data into TBHost. 11. When you are finished entering data for your new TBClient, answer 'Y' to the 'Add this new record' question. 12. Now you can return to the Main Menu by pressing the ESC key. 13. Select 'Options' from the Main Menu then select 'Wait for Calls'. 14. Your computer is now waiting for calls from your TBClient(s). 15. While you are waiting for calls, take a moment to fill out the Registration Form at the back of the manual and mail it in. It will speed up our service to you should you have a need to call technical support. It will also enable us to notify you of TeleBack upgrades in the works! Continue here for TBClient 16. During a first-time installation, 'Setup TBClient' will be selected for you automatically from the Main Menu. 17. Type: PASSWORD and press the Enter key. If you make a mistake, just press the ESC key and select 'Setup TBClient' again. 18. Enter the Client ID. This name has to be identical on both the TBHost and the TBClient computers. It is one of the ways that TBClient gains access to your TBHost. 19. Enter the TBHost phone number. Be sure to enter all the digits necessary to complete the call, including any special access codes and delays. 20. Enter the Backup Times for the different days. The default is 00:00 (midnight). 21. Enter the 'Type' of Backup to perform for that day: I = Incremental, F = Full, Blank = None 22. When you arrive at the hard drive field, the letters corresponding to all attached hard drives should be displayed. If they are not, press the F10 key. Delete the letter(s) of the hard drive(s) that you do not want included in backup process. 23. At the password field, be sure to tell your client that he/she may change passwords when necessary. This is the password that encrypts the data before it is transmitted over the modem. It is also the password that you use to return to the Setup Screen. Enter the password and press the Enter key. 24. Select 'Exclude Files' on the Main Menu. You may also exclude an entire drive like this: D:\*.* 25. If you used the 'Auto Backup' inadvertently, press ALT+Keypad5 to bring TBClient back to the screen. TBClient Title Screen: If you would like to change the TBClient Title screen, create an ASCII text file named 'WEB.SOF' with the text that you want displayed on the screen. Type: This field relates to the type of backup to perform during an 'Automatic' or, a TelePower backup session. Enter an 'I' for Incremental, an 'F' for Full, or leave it blank for NO BACKUP. Clients that want backups performed every night, must either be done at the same time every night or, performed earlier than the night before. The reason for this is the way that the system clock is checked when TBClient goes resident. If you enter a time of 23:00 for Monday and 23:30 for Tuesday, TBClient will wake up at 23:00, do it's backup, get the time for Tuesday and go back to sleep. Since Tuesday's time is 23:30, it will perform another backup at 23:30 tonight even though it is still Monday. If a modem was not found by TBClient during your installation, then this filed will contain a '1'. The allowable entries are 1 through 4. Any other number will generate an error message. Many serial cards (and internal modems) allow you to change this address because it conflicts with other hardware within the computer. If you need to change the address, you can do that here. IRQ: This field contains the Interrupt ReQuest number. It will change based on the number you entered into the Comm Port field. Normally the default (ATZ) is all that is required. Modem Commands: TBClient needs to be able to recognize certain words that are returned from the modem. The default commands (listed below) have the following meaning (consult your modem manual for compatibility): AT Gets the MODEM's attention. E0 (zero) Disables command echo V1 (one) Displays result code in verbose format. X4 (one) Return the full set of connect messages. Q0 (zero) Enables Result codes to be sent to the screen in response to MODEM operations. &C1(one) Uses the actual state of the carrier from the remote modem for Data Carrier Detect (DCD). &D2 Hang up when carrier is lost. The commands listed above are pretty standard and as such, you should rarely need to change them. If you have trouble making a modem connection with the default commands, consult the user manual of your TBClient's modem. Be sure to enter the command(s) to enable RTS/CTS. This is hardware flow control. Password: This is a 15-character field. If this is your first time running TBClient, you will notice that the word 'PASSWORD' is in the field. If you remember, you had to type that in to get to this screen. Remember your password! Note: Passwords should never refer to anything that someone would know about you (i.e. names of relatives, birthdays, addresses etc.). Try to select two words that have no relation and separate them with a number or a symbol. Examples of passwords (don't use these): - DUCK33DISKETTE - PENCIL%AIR - UZ4OS#LE9Q That completes TBClient Setup. The next topic will be the 'Auto Backup' menu. Note: Use of Microsoft Windows while using TBClient in 'Auto' mode, may produce unexpected results. Windows takes over the keyboard and does not allow TeleBack to respond to a keypress. There are few, if any, TSRs that will pop up on top of Windows. See Section 4 for Running TBCLIENT under Windows. Keep in mind that there are some DOS programs that just don't get along with TSRs. You will have to experiment to see if the ones that you have will conflict. If you are using another program (like a word processor, or spreadsheet) and the time arrives to perform the backup, a message window is displayed to let you know what is about to happen. After the F9 key is pressed, the backup will proceed. When the backup is finished, TBClient will go into resident mode again to wait for the next scheduled backup time. You will be returned to your previous application. If your computer is at the DOS prompt at the time the backup is to be performed, it will proceed without operator intervention. To stop the 'Gathering & Compressing Files' process, press Ctrl-C. To stop a File Transfer that is in progress, press the Esc key and wait for the 'User Abort' message. If you need to 'wake-up' TBClient, press ALT+keypad5 (that's the number 5 on the keypad). You might need to do this to change some Setup information or to change the password, etc. To put TBClient back to sleep, simply select 'Auto Backup' on the menu again. Command Line Switches: Unlike the command line switches on page 6, the following are for use only with TBClient. The TelePower : TeleBack now provides a command line switch for use with The TelePower. The TelePower is a device that you plug your phone and computer into. The TelePower itself is plugged into an electric wall outlet. If you plan to make use of the TelePower, call WEB Software for more information at 904-943-9977. TBHost knows which of your clients are using the TelePower (by answering a question in the 'Change Setup' screen) and will call them at the correct time. When the TBClient phone rings, the TelePower will apply power to your client's computer and TBClient will perform the Backup Type (F or I) for that day. When the phone connection is terminated, the TelePower will turn off the client's computer. To take advantage of using the TelePower with TBClient, issue the following command line switch within your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. tbclient /tp TBHost - Note: When you start TBHost, the modem is sent a command to take the phone off-hook. If you select 'Wait for Calls' the modem will be put back on-hook again. To cancel 'Wait for Calls', press the Esc key. The phone will be taken off-hook again. In other words, if the Client ID doesn't match, they will not get access to the Host machine for the Upload. Tip: Here is a good way to lock out a client that has not paid his bill. Change his Client ID on the Host machine. Password: This field has no use for TBHost. It is used only to store this client's password in case he wants you to have it. It isn't required. For legal reasons, we suggest that you not know the client's password. Company Name: The company name of your TBClient. All company information is printed on the invoice when using TB-Invoice . Address Line 1: The company's address. Address Line 2: An additional line if you need it. City: The city where the company is located. State: The state where the company is located. Six and one quarter percent would be entered as 6.25 Days In Billing Cycle: How often do you want to invoice this client? Every 30 days?, 45 days?, 120 days? This is a required field and is used in the calculation for the next field, 'Date Due'. Date Due: Press the Enter key and a calendar will be displayed from which to choose the billing date. Use the Arrow keys or PageUp/PageDown keys to select the date that you desire to use. Press the Enter key while in the calendar when you arrive at the desired date. That date will be entered into the field for you. Before using TB-Invoice, make sure this date is correct for each client. Receive Path: If you have a few clients, you will appreciate this field. It allows you to designate a subdirectory name for their uploads. If the directory does not exist, it will be created. Any valid path name is accepted. If the directory already exists, a warning message will appear. The warning message will also appear if access to that directory is denied (a network function). We suggest that you use the Client ID as the name of the directory or subdirectory. That way, you can manage your files and hard drive space a little easier. Lowest Allowable CPS: This field will accept a number for the lowest Characters Per Second (CPS) that you will allow during a file transfer before it will abort and try again. There are times when line noise will degrade a phone line to the point that the file transfer will start to slow down. The baud rate at which you are connected will determine the length of time that the bad connection will be tolerated. TBHost will allow 60 blocks of data (while you are looking at the file transfer window, each change you see on the screen is the time it takes to transfer one block of data) below your 'threshold' CPS rate before the transfer will be aborted and retried. For example: If you are using 14.4K modems and you set the 'Lowest Allowable CPS' field to 1200, then the transfer rate would have to be less than 1200 CPS for 60 consecutive blocks in order to abort the transfer and retry it. If the CPS rate goes above 1200 during just one block, then the count to 60 will start over again. Get a feel for the speeds of different baud rates. Here are some recommendations based on tests we have completed with our machines. 2400 modems not less than 200 CPS 9600 modems not less than 750 CPS 14.4 modems not less than 1500CPS Keep in mind that computer systems and modems are different and trial and error are your best bet. Command Line Switches: The following command line switches can be used to modify the behavior of TBHost. Some internal modems and serial card will lockup after a while. Using this switch will help to overcome such an event. It will re-boot your host computer if the modem does not pick up the phone within approximately 50 seconds. tbhost /b Multi-User: The following command line switches are used only with the Multi-User version of TBHost. 1. Command line switch /# a. # = Comm port number 1-4 b. You must start multiuser tbhost with the port number switch if you are running more than one instance of TBHost. This switch tell TBHost which comm port to use and sets the IRQ and I/O Addresses accordingly. c. One caveat is that you must use the same type of modem on all ports. This limitation should change in a future version. 2. Command line switch /i#### a. #### = the i/o address. b. Must be a decimal number. c. If it is 3 chars long then you must add a leading zero (i.e. 0760). 3. Command line switch /q## a. ## = the irq number b. You must always use two numbers (i.e. 05). 4. Command line switch /tp a. Multi-User TBHost will support the TelePower module. b. If operating in a multi-tasking environment, only one instance of TBHost should use this command line switch. As a minimum, you must use the Comm Port switch if you are running more than one instance of TBHOST. If you want to use the alternate irq and i/o addresses, use the command line switches listed above. Do not use spaces between command line switches. It may be a Full Restore or it may be to restore one or more files. Full Restore: You will need to locate the last Full Backup and all subsequent Incremental Backups. Restore the Full Backup to your HD first, then start restoring the Incremental Backups in the order that they were sent. When you are finished, backup it up to tape and carry the tape(s) to the client's site to do the restore. When you are restoring with ZIP files, the first thing that you will need to do is use the 'View, Ordered' switch (-vo) of PKZip to see where the files belong. Files that are listed without a path name belong in the root directory. To make your restore procedures easier, we suggest that you initially make a directory tree of each drive that will be backed up. You can use the DOS Tree command and send it to a file like this: TREE > drive_d.tre This sends the output of the tree command to a file called DRIVE_D.TRE which you can save for future reference. There are other commercial programs on the market that do this as well. Using your directory tree listing, it will be easier to find out which directories belong on which drive. If your client has only one hard drive then the tree listing should not be necessary. Issue the PKZip 'View, Ordered' switch like this: pkzip -vo filename.ext where 'filename' is the eight character filename and 'ext' is the filename extension. A listing similar to the one below will be displayed to your screen. Use the 'Pause' key to stop the view so that you can see it if it is too large or send it to a text file like this: pkzip -vo filename.ext > zipfile.txt and view it with your text editor. That is why we suggest that you make a directory tree if you are backing up more than one hard drive. Look under the 'Name' heading. A filename listed by itself means that it belongs in the root directory. For example, CONFIG.BAK, AUTOEXEC.OZ and AUTOEXEC.BAT etc., all belong in the root directory. Filenames that are preceded by a forward slash '/' belong in the subdirectory that is listed to the left of the slash. The arrows that are pointing to the README.DOC file is showing you where the next drive's root directory starts. It could be for drive D or drive G. Again, this is why we recommend making a directory tree listing for your records. To restore all the files to a hard drive, move to the root directory and type: pkunzip -d filename.ext. There are more elaborate methods also. Consult your PKZip manual. Partial Restore: To restore one or more files, type: "pkunzip -d YDDDHHMM.CID FILENAME.EXT" for each file. You will probably very rarely do a restore for a client. Unless you do a lot with PkZIP, the restore process may seem a little complicated. If you ever have a problem doing a Restore or are unsure of the procedures, please feel free to call Tech Support, we will be more than happy to walk you through it. TeleBack Restore v1.0 TBRest is designed to make it easier for you to restore files to your client's hard drive(s). It is on your distribution disk. To use it, copy it to the hard drive where you will be doing your data restorations. If you are more familiar with other zip file extraction utilities, then by all means use them. Page 8 of The RBS Book, by Rob Cosgrove, explains the concept of doing a data restoration. TBRest Operation: To start the program type: tbrest zipfile.ext zipfile = the name of the backup file that you want to restore. .ext = is the extension of the zipfile. Remember, the extension is the first 3 letters of the Client ID. A message will appear on the screen telling you that TBRest is loading the file into memory. When that is completed, a window will be displayed with a movable highlight bar that contains all the names of all the files that are contained within zip file. You can move the highlight bar with the Up/Down Arrow keys or the PageUp and PageDown keys. Position the highlight bar over the file that you want to restore and press the SPACEBAR. A check mark will appear to the right of the filename. This is an indicator to tell you that this file will be extracted from the zipped file. This is called 'tagging' a file. Please read the caution at the end of this section if you are restoring files to more than one hard drive. You can continue to 'tag' files until you have some, or all of the files tagged for extraction. When you are finished 'tagging' files, press the Enter key. Now you are asked for the destination drive letter. Enter any valid hard drive letter. Next, you are asked if you are sure that you selected the correct drive. Select your response. Now you need to tell TBRest if you want to be prompted to overwrite a file if it already exists. If you select 'Yes', every time a file is extracted, and that file already exist, you will be asked for confirmation. If you are extracting many or all files, we would suggest that you not use this option. If you do, You will be tied to the keyboard during the entire process! When all the files are extracted, you will be returned to the file window. To exit, press the ESC key, or, press the Enter key when no files are tagged. Caveats: When starting TBRest, you must add the file extension or a 'File not found' message will appear. *** CAUTION *** *** CAUTION *** *** CAUTION *** If you are extracting files from a zip file that includes files backed up from more than one hard drive, you must extract the files one hard drive at a time. For example, tag the files for drive C then extract them. Then tag the files for drive D and extract them. If you have questions or need help, please call Tech support. We suggest that you practice on some test files that you have made before you attempt it for real! Section 4 Running TBClient Under Windows TBClient WILL RUN UNDER WINDOWS! For your convienence, we are providing a program called CCSCHED.ZIP. It is located on the TeleBack Utilities Disk. If you use it, please register it with the author. It cost $15 and is well worth it! Setup: 1. Locate the TeleBack Utilities Disk and insert it into a floppy drive. 2. Follow these steps: (for the purpose of this example, we will use drive A:) a. Copy CCSCHED.EXE into your tbclient directory and extract the files 1) Type: copy a:\ccsched.zip c:\tbclient 2) Type: ccsched 3) You may now delete CCSCHED.EXE b. Copy WINCLNT.EXE into your tbclient directory and extract the files 1) Type: copy a:\winclnt.zip c:\tbclient 2) Type: winclnt 3) You may now delete WINCLNT.EXE 3. Now start Windows. 4. In the Program Manager, run the ccsched program. a. Select "File", then select "Run" b. In the box, type: c:\tbclient\ccsched and click OK (in our example, we used c:\tbclient as the directory were we installed TBCLIENT.EXE) 5. Click the OK button. The following instructions were extracted from the CCsched help file. The icon for CCSCHED will be placed into your Accessories group in Program Manager. Automatically Opening a Setup File CCSCHED will automatically load a setup file if you put that setup file on the command line when calling it. From Program Manager, click File, Properties.... and put the name of the file you want to open after CCSCHED.EXE in the command line box. For example: CCSCHED.EXE CLIENT.SCH. To create CLIENT.SCH, configure CCSCHED to run and select File, Save as..., you would then type in the name CLIENT.SCH and save it. Be sure to save it to your tbclient directory! Starting CCsched When You Start Windows You can have Windows automatically load CCSCHED by putting a copy of it in your StartUp group in Program Manager. This way, when every the computer is re-booted and windows is started, the scheduler will be activated. File to Launch CCsched is pretty easy to run. In the File To Launch field, type CLIENT.BAT This is the batch file that will be run to get TBClient started. Working Directory In this field you will type in the full path name to your tbclient directory. For example: c:\tbclient To make sure that you have everything setup correctly, click the "Test Launch" button. If you have problems, consult the CCSCHED help file or call TeleBack Support. Commonly Asked Questions Why does TBClient sometimes pop up, and then disappear without doing a backup? A backup was not scheduled for that day. When you leave the backup 'Type' field empty (as for Sat or Sun) TBClient will wake up, get the time for tomorrow, and then go back to sleep, waiting for the next scheduled time. What type of file transfer protocol do TBHost and TBClient utilize? Zmodem. This is a fast and very reliable method of transmitting data. How long will TBClient attempt to dial the TBHost if the phone line is busy? For approximately 2 hours. TBClient will dial the TBHost 480 times before it quits and displays a message. If the connection is lost during a file transfer, will TBClient start over again? I do not want my clients to spend 'big bucks' on phone bills! Our implementation of Zmodem will resume the file transfer exactly where it stopped. For example, let's say that one of your TBClients is uploading a 900K file and the connection is lost (for whatever reason) at the 800K point. TBHost will reset itself to wait for calls again and TBClient will recover and start to redial. When the connection is established again, the upload will 'Resume' at the 800K point. What is the difference between a Full and an Incremental Backup? All the files on your hard drive have Attribute Bits. One of those bits is the Archive Bit. As you use your various computer programs, different files get written to (data is added). When this happens, the Archive Bit gets set. Setting this bit means that data in the file has changed. When you perform an Incremental Backup, only the files with the Archive Bit set are the ones to get backed up. When the backup is complete the Archive Bit is reset. A Full Backup does not discriminate. It will backup all files on the hard drive(s) regardless of the Archive Bit setting. The Archive Bit is also reset after a Full Backup. Why does TBClient take so long to 'wake-up' after I press Alt+Keypad5? More than likely you do not have any EMS or XMS memory that is available for TBClient to use. TBClient uses this memory to swap itself in and out when you select 'Auto Mode' on the main menu or press Alt+KeyPad5. When EMS or XMS memory is not available, TBClient swaps to your hard drive. Swapping to a hard drive is slower than swapping to computer memory. I am using TBClient on a network. Does it matter which workstation I run it on? No. Depending on the Network Operating System (NOS), be sure to give TBClient sufficient rights (creation & deletion etc.) to access all directories and files that are required for the backup. I use a monochrome monitor. Why is it so difficult to see some of the screens? The video card you have may be a color card and it is showing you different shades of gray or green or whatever your monitor color is. Use the /m command line switch when invoking TBHost or TBClient. This will force it to display in two color mode (black & white). One of my TBClients has forgotten his password and needs us to restore his last backup. Is there any way to find out what his password is? Yes & No. The databases that are used in TBClient are encrypted. Although we realize that nothing is impossible, you would have a very difficult time trying to decrypt the TBClient databases to find out the password. If you find yourself in this situation, call the tech support line. I would like to perform a backup while I am within an application other than TeleBack. Is there a way to do this without exiting my current program? Sure, provided you have TeleBack installed as a TSR! To run TBClient as a TSR, you need to select 'Auto Backup'. If that has been done, press Alt+KeyPad5 to 'wake-up' TBClient then select 'Backup Now!' from the menu. Remember, we do not recommend running TBClient as a TSR under Windows. Why do my modems automatically hang up right after they connect? This is a good sign that you are trying to communicate with modems that are incompatible for one reason or another. Check the manual for the modems and ensure that you are setting the modems up correctly for the right protocol (i.e. v.32/v.32bis, v.42/v.42bis) and the the default modem commands correspond to the modem commands that your modem will accept. In case of a power loss, is it possible to have TBHost & TBClient start up automatically? Yes! Use the "/a" (without the quotes), 'Autostart' command line switch. This will allow you to call both programs (TBHost & TBClient) from within a batch file without worry. When you start TBHost with the "/a" switch, it will automatically go into the 'Wait for Calls' mode. Starting TBClient with the "/a" switch will put TBClient into the 'Auto Mode'. You may use multiple command line switches. For example, using the /m/a switches together would start the program in Monochrome and Autostart. I am trying to use batch files to log users off of the network before we do our backups. I am using the batch file names that you have in the user manual but they don't seem to work all of the time. What am I doing wrong? You need to make sure that the name of the batch file is correct. The batch file names used as examples in the User's Manual are for Sunday only. Notice that the last three letters of the filename are 'SUN'. To use a set of batch files for Wednesday, all you need to do is make sure that the last three letters of the file name are 'WED'. For example TB_AFWED.BAT would be run After a Full backup on Wednesday. Remember, a batch file must be present to be run and must be named as stated in the User's Manual. I called the TeleBack Support BBS but I could not get access to the TeleBack Conference. Am I forgetting to do something? To get access you must answer all the registration questions. If you have a CIS ID, we would like to know that too. We notify users via Compuserve before anyone else about upgrades or add-ons. Call back after 24 hrs has gone by and you should have access. To join the TeleBack conference on the BBS, select 'J' (for Join) on the menu and press Enter. Select '1' to join the TeleBack conference or another number to join any of the others. To download TeleBack files, you must be in the TeleBack conference or you won't see them. How can I display my company information on the TBClient main screen? Create a text file called WEB.SOF and type in any information that you want displayed on the TBClient main screen. You are allowed 6 lines of 50 characters each. The text should be left justified. TBClient will center it for you on the screen. As long as this file is present in the TBClient directory, the information in your text file will be displayed. Please note that the TBClient name, version number and copyright information can not be removed. Why do I get a 'Sharing Violation..' when I attempt to backup files in the TBCLIENT directory? Because the TBCLIENT.EXE file open and running. If you must backup files within the TBCLIENT directory then you will have to 'Exclude' TBCLIENT.EXE and *.LST from the backup process. I have a client that intermittently gets denied access to my TBHost. I have checked, and the Client ID is identical on TBHost and TBClient. Why does this keep happening? Line noise is most probably the culprit! You see, back when fast modems were expensive, everyone used the cheaper, slower modems and phone line noise wasn't an issue. Now that we have high speed modems, we need a 'cleaner' phone line. Just that slightest bit of noise can cause an error. To help work around this problem, TBClient will try to redial up to 5 times when it has been disconnected because of denied access to TBHost. If the problem is so severe that TBClient will still not connect, then try using a slower modem speed or a different phone line. TeleBack Add-Ons Multi-User TBHost: Teleback is shipped to you as a single user program. It will only use one modem at a time. As you add more clients, you will eventually need to add one or more modems to support them (there are only so many minutes in a day). To use more than one copy of TBHost within a multi-tasking environment, on a network or on multiple computers, you must purchase Multi-User TBHost. This allows two modems to be used and will allow concurent access to the databases of TBHost. Multi-User TBHost will also allow you to get the best performance out of the TB-Invoice program. Since all client & activity information is kept in one database, it is easier to manage. Billing and invoice tracking all of your clients becomes easier with TB-Invoice. TB-Invoice : Prints detailed invoices using data obtained from the Activity Log and Client databases.
