The Lorien Talking Template For Windows Product Notes For Sighted Users: Hot Keys Speaking Typed Text F2: Speaks Selected Text, or the letter to the immediate right of the cursor if no text is selected. If no text is selected or one character is selected, the user will be informed if the character is upper or lower case, and if the character is alphabetic the letter will be spoken using the phonetic alphabet. F3: Speaks the current line of text, and returns the cursor to the beginning of the line. F4: Speaks the current word and returns the cursor to the beginning of the word. F5: Speaks the current sentence and returns the cursor to its original position. Version 6 only. Formatting Commands Bold Text Toggle Pressing CTRL and B toggles the BOLD state of the selected text, or the text about to be typed at the insertion point Italic Text Toggle Pressing CTRL and I toggles the ITALIC state of the selected text, or the text about to be typed at the insertion point Underline Text Toggle Pressing CTRL and U toggles the UNDERLINE state of the selected text, or the text about to be types at the insertion point Align Paragraph Left Pressing CTRL and L aligns the current paragraph to the LEFT. You will be told : The name of the typeface The Size of the typeface The Bold state of the text The Italic state of the text The Underline state of the text The current text alignment If the selected text contains a mixture of any of the above characteristics you will be informed. e.g. If the selected text is composed of various sizes, with only some of it underlined, in the status report the computer will say "Selection Partially Underlines, Various Sizes" Location Information Location Information Pressing F9 will tell you where the cursor is in the document. For example " Line number 5, Page 2 of 4 " Using List Boxes Moving Through Lists Users can move through lists in several ways: Pressing the up and down keys will move up or down one item. Pressing ALT and U moves up one item and speaks the item Pressing ALT and D moves down one item Pressing Page Up or Page Down will move up or down one screen full. ( approx. 8 lines ) Pressing an alphabetic key will jump to the next item in the list beginning with that letter. Speaking a List Item Pressing ALT and S speaks the currently selected list item. Selecting From A List Pressing ENTER selects the currently selected item from the list. Exiting from a list Pressing ESC exits from a list Working With Tables Inserting A Table Press ALT and A for the table menu, and then press I to insert a table. You will be prompted for the number of rows and columns in the table. The table will be created for you with equally spaced columns across the entire printable area. Table Information Pressing CTRL and T when within a table will tell you your position within the table. If you have selected more than Adding Rows To A Table Pressing ALT and A for the table menu and then Adding Columns To A Table Pressing ALT and A for the table menu and then Deleting Rows From A Table Pressing ALT and A for the table menu and then R. The current row will be deleted. Deleting Columns From A Table Pressing ALT and A for the table menu and then C. The current column will be deleted. Moving In A Table Use the up and down arrows to move up and down a row at a time. Use Tab to move Right one column, and shift and TAB to move left one column. A new file will be created and opened, and you will be informed when the file is ready for you to type into. Changing Directories To change the current directory, press ALT & F for the file menu, and D to change directory. You will be prompted to type the full path to the new directory, e.g. "C:\LORIEN". If you type a valid directory name, that directory will be made to be the current directory, otherwise you will be prompted to retype the target directory. You may press ESC to exit from this function. Loading Files To load an existing file, press ALT and F for the files menu, and O to open a file. You will be presented with a list box containing the document files in that directory. Choose the file you want to open and perss enter. Saving Files To save the file which you are working on, press ALT and F to access the files menu, and then S to save. If you have not yet saved the file, you will be prompted for a name. The file will be saved in the current directory. Printing Files To print the file which you are currently working on, press ALT and F to access the file menu, and P to print. The file will be printed with the current settings for the printer in the control panel. The vast majority of development is currently taking place in Version 6, since this is the product that Microsoft are marketing as current.
