SVGA Mah Jongg Tile Set Description This File : MAYA.TXT Tile Set Name : MAYA.TL Subject : One Mayan pronouncing alphabet. : April 4, 1993 Created by : Tom Boothby 2202 SE Tenino Portland, OR 97202 (503) 238 1443 Description: This tile set follows, generally, the format of the original Mah Jongg set: three suits, four winds and two sets of wild cards. When the Spaniards came to the New World they brought scholars as well as plunderers. One of the scholars made an attempt to create a written Mayan language by asking the Mayans what pictograph would represent certain sounds. This file shows what he put down. It was really a failure but I thought interesting enough for a tile set. There is nothing authentic about the colors. I mixed the colors so that at a later date the tile colors could be changed easily. You wont find any Mayan books using these pictures for their alphabet because they did not use one. I think the scholar finally realized this, too. Anyway, this set came after a nice week in Cancun and a day at Cichen Itza.
