SETUP & EXECUTION If you have already unziped the files in their own directory just type "hr" to begin HyperReader, the reading program that is distributed with HYPERWRITER hypertext documents. This will bring up the title page of the document and you can "Page Down" through the first several pages. Further instructions are given in the Preface, and online help will be available by way of a hidden menu under the blue line at the top of your computer screen. If you need help in setup or unzipping the files properly, read on. If this is the first time you have dealt with a zipped file, don't worry. Most shareware is compressed, and the pkzip type of compression is the one that I have seen used the most, so you will see it often. Place the file hyplrnxx.zip in a directory of it's own such as HL. The DOS command to make the directory HL would be "MD HL". You need the decompression program pkunzip somewhere in your path statement to decompress or unzip this program. If you do not have a copy of pkunzip, most BBS's will carry it as pkz204g.exe, unless there is a newer version out by now. When you have pkunzip in your path, go to the directory where you placed hyperlrn.zip and type "pkunzip hyplrnxx.zip" (use the actual filename of the version of HyperLearn that you have, not xx) and it will automatically unzip. You cannot decompress if you do not have room on your hard drive so make sure you have about 5MB of free space on your hard drive to "self extract pkz204g, and to unzip hyplrnxx.zip. You should end up with files that are variations of the following (about 46 of them for version 1.3) HR.EXE The HyperReader program. HR.OVR Required by the HyperReader program. HR.DIA The HyperReader dialog box file. HR.INI HyperReader initialization file -- will be made upon first use. This file CANNOT be present on first attempt to use the program or it probably will not run! HWSYSTEM.VGA The VGA font file. HWSYSTEM.EGA The EGA and HGA font file. HWSYSTEM.CGA The CGA font file. SERIF.VGA The serif font file for VGA screens. SERIF.EGA The serif font file for EGA and HGA screens. SERIF.CGA The serif font file for CGA screens. SANS.VGA The sans serif font file for VGA screens. SANS.EGA The sans serif font file for EGA and HGA screens. SANS.CGA The sans serif font file for CGA screens. *.VDR Videodisc drivers are not required for this edition. *.HW4, *.HWT, *.HWN The document(s) themselves, the paragraph tag files, the index files and the topic name files. *.PCX Picture files After typing "hr" to start HyperReader, you should see the title page of the document with the title "SAVE THE PLANET, SAVE YOUR LOVED ONES, AND SAVE YOURSELF" in large blue lettering. CGA or Monochrome systems will not see the colors but otherwise, the document will be the same. PROBLEMS The most likely reasons for not getting a title screen is improper setup whereby someone rezipped all of their files and uploaded them to a bulletin board with the .ini file included. The original zipped file is the file that should be passed around to avoid this problem. If there is an .ini file, delete it. It has to be deleted for any moving of the text to a different directory also. A second possible set up problem would be unzipping without adequate space on your hard drive. You will not get all of the files extracted and the program will not work. Watch your unzipping, to insure it runs to completion and tells you how many files were unzipped. PRICES, etc., VALID THROUGH 31 Dec. 1995 This version is valid through 1995. If the date is later than 31 December 1995, the program will still run but the price and terms could be different. You can still try registering and we will let you know if terms, prices, or addresses have changed, assuming we get your mail.
