InternetWorks FAQ What is the difference between Lite and Beta4? Beta4 supersedes Lite. Beta4 contains various bug fixes, does not limit the number of simultaneous downloads (limited only by the number of sockets allowable with your winsock), and easier installation. How do I use the mail feature? The Beta4 and Lite versions only support mailto; they do not support receiving mail. How do I use the news feature? The news feature is not available in the Lite and Beta versions. How do I use telnet with InternetWorks? You can "hook in" any external telnet package you like via the "Options->Viewers" selection creating a "new type" as "application/telnet" and then fill in/browse the path to your executable. How do I create a custom home page? With the Lite and Beta versions you need to replace the default.htm file in the IW directory. In future versions you will be able to define a URL location or any other local HTML file as the default startup document for InternetWorks. How do I view the source of a HTML file? In the Lite and Beta versions you will need to download the file and view it locally using a text viewer such as NOTEPAD.EXE. We will be adding the view source feature to InternetWorks in a future version. Is PPP supported? InternetWorks software does support PPP however the version of Trumpet available with InternetWorks does not. You will need another winsock client to connect with PPP. What is the .HTX extension? The .HTX extension is the extension used to signify a document is saved in InternetWorks format. By using the format you can save images and text in the same file. What changes are made to the autoexec.bat file? The two changes made are: The IW directory is added to the path and share is also added via a line of its own. If you want to use share only under windows then delete the line in the autoexec.bat file and add the line (or see if it already exists) device=vshare.386 to your system.ini within the windows directory. What is the difference between the commercial version and the free? The basic differences are: Full OLE 2.0 complience Full Mail reader capability (freewares can only do "mail to") Full News reader capability Lite allows only 2 simultaneous downloads Beta4 allows unlimited simultaneous downloads (limited only by your winsock's maximum number of allowable sockets) What do the up and down arrows do for me? They allow you the ability to traverse particular sub-branches of documents that are loaded giving you a three-dimensional traversing ability. What are some sample settings for the Trumpet Winsock? Check the Trumpet documentation for recommended settings. These can be found in the directory where Trumpet is located (e.g.; C:\TRUMPET). They are named install.txt for the ASCII version or install.doc for the Microsoft Word version. To intiate an OLE drag and drop: - Go to the page you want to drag and drop. - Hold the Control key down while you press and hold the left button of the mouse (or whatever mouse button is the select button). - When the cursor has changed to a arrow with a small gray box and a "plus" sign you can release the Control key but keep the mouse button depressed. (larger pages with lots of images may take longer to intiate) - "Drag" the mouse cursor to the application you would like to "drop" the page. The cursor will display a circle with a line through it if you are in an area you cannot "drop" the document. - Release the mouse button and the document will be dropped in the application. Will this software work with any winsock? Yes, InternetWorks will work with any winsock client. Some may require more setup time than others. Check the documentation for the particular winsock for more details. Will this software work with any Internet access provider? Yes, InternetWorks will work with any IAP that supplies at least a SLIP connection. What is a SLIP account? Serial Line Internet Protocol - a form of connection to the world wide network known commonly as the Internet. What is PPP? Point to Point Protocol - a form of connection to the world wide network known commonly as the Internet. What is an IAP (Internet Access Provider)? Someone who can provide you with a connection to the Internet. This may be in the form of a SLIP, PPP, Leased Line, Frame Relay, or even a T1. How do I download your software?
