General Notes on InternetWorks installation: ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. InternetWorks will work with any Internet Access Provider (IAP), as long as they can provide a SLIP or PPP account. 2. InternetWorks may need to add the following line to your autoexec.bat file to enable shared access to files required by InternetWorks: share /L:500 /F:5100 Alternatively you could add the line: device=vshare.386 to your system.ini file, [386enh] section, for some savings of your DOS memory. Generally, vshare.386 is available only in version 3.11 of Windows or Windows for Workgroups but many versions of Windows 3.1 also have it available. InternetWorks may also alter the path to include the newly intalled software by adding: Set PATH = C:\IW;%PATH% InternetWorks setup will give you a choice whether or not you want it to update your autoexec.bat NOTE: When using the File Manager to execute the self extracting files you may have to change directories to another directory after extracting the files to see them. This forces the drive to rescan so that it can then "see" the newly added files. This is dependent on the caching set up on your particular drives and may not happen to you. How to install InternetWorks after downloading: ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. Create a temporary directory and cd into it. Unzip the file by typing "beta4.exe -d", which will self extract the files into that temporary directory. NOTE: Make sure to supply the argument "-d" as this will create the correct directory structure. If you do not supply the "-d" argument you will be unable to install InternetWorks. 2. From the "File" menu select the "Run" command and type "drive:\tempdir\disk1\setup" where "drive" is the hard drive that you unzipped the files onto, "tempdir" is temporary directory that you unzipped the files into. Alternately, you could use the file manager in Windows to access the temporary directory and double click on the file "setup.exe" a) When setup asks for disk 2 provide the pathname to the directory for it. 3. You may also copy the directories that are created to diskettes if you'd like. a) After executing "beta4.exe -d" you will have two directories named "disk1.zip" and "disk2.zip" respectively. Use the xcopy command to copy these to two (2) blank formatted diskettes. For example: c:\tempdir> xcopy disk1\*.* a:\ /s /v c:\tempdir> xcopy disk2\*.* a:\ /s /v NOTE: Make sure to specify the /s argument to correctly set up the directory structure. How to install Trumpet after downloading: ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Create a directory for Trumpet to be installed into (e.g.; C:\TRUMPET). 2. Copy trumpet.exe to the directory created in step 1. 3. Execute trumpet.exe. It is a self extracting zip file. 4. Make sure to read the install.doc (MS Word version) or install.txt for Trumpet. This explains in great detail what is needed to set up Trumpet. 5. Make sure to add the directory in which you have installed Trumpet to your path statement in your autoexec.bat. NOTE: If you have another winsock.dll within your path you may have problems if you also include Trumpet in your path. It is advisable to only have one winsock.dll within your path. How to install update.exe after downloading: ----------------------------------------------------------- The update.exe is a self extracting zip file that contains only the InternetWorks executable file. If you downloaded InternetWorks Lite previously you only need to download update.exe. 1. Copy the update.exe file to a temp directory. 2. Rename your existing InternetWorks executable either within a MS-DOS Prompt window example: C:\IW> ren iw.exe iwlite.exe or you can use the File Manager to rename it by first selecting iw.exe within your InternetWorks directory then executing the menu choice File-> Rename and supplying the name you would rename it to. 3. Execute update.exe. You can either unzip it within the InternetWorks directory itself or unzip it the temp directory then copy it into the InternetWorks directory.
