WinRamp Lite 1.21 SHAREWARE EVALUATION VERSION Installation Instructions ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is highly recommended that you use the INSTALL.EXE program to install WinRamp. This will go a long way to preventing a lot of potential setup problems. Avoiding Potential Problems --------------------------- If you have been running a previous version of WinRamp Lite (i.e. version 1.00b, 1.01, 1.1 or 1.11) just prior to installing this new version, AND you have not closed down Windows since running the old version, it is highly likely that the WINRAMP.FON file is still in memory and may be locked. As WINRAMP.FON SHOULD be upgraded to successfully use the new VT emulation character sets added in this version, it is recommended that you first restart Windows. This will release the font file and allow the installation procedure to automatically upgrade to the new updated font file. Installation Steps ------------------ 1. Check that you have all the files required to install and run WinRamp Lite 1.11. A detailed file list can be found in PACKING.LST 2. From within Windows Program Manager: NB! Consult you Windows documentation if you are unsure of how to operate the Windows Program Manager. a. Start Microsoft Windows b. From the File menu, choose Run c. Type \INSTALL.EXE, and press ENTER b. Follow the setup up program's on-screen prompts and instructions. It is NOT recommended that you install WinRamp into the SAME directory as the decompressed files. c. A WinRamp Lite group will automatically be opened. d. Be sure to read the file "Read Me First!" for any last minute instructions regarding running WinRamp Lite. e. Run WinRamp Lite like you would any other Windows application by double-clicking on the WinRamp Lite icon. Uncompressing *.$?? Files ------------------------- To save space on your hard drive, the large original distribution files have been compressed. The files can be identified by their file extensions: *.$00, *.$01 or *.$02 and so on. These files can be extracted on an as needed basis by means of the EXTRACT.EXE utility included in the original distribution archive. Please see the PACKING.LST text file for more details.
