---------------------------------------------------------------------- USBBSDoor Revision History ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This file describes the new features in recent USBBSDoor releases. Please refer to USBBSDOR.DOC for a basic description of USBBSDoor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [ USBBSDoor 5.4 New Features 05/09/95 ] ------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * New command - (I)nternet BBS Search. This command searches the USBBS list for systems offering Internet services. These searches may be narrowed to Area codes, States or the Entire list. When displaying a system using the (I) command, USBBSDoor will "expand" the listing on the screen. This expanded display takes the one-letter Internet list designation and displays it as a verbose listing on a second line. * To accommodate the (I)nternet command, "(I)nfo on USBBS" has been changed to (U)SBBS info. * The (M)odem brand search has become obsolete and has been removed. * The new (I)nternet and (U)SBBS-info commands, as well as the removed (M)odem command are reflected in the enclosed MENU and HELPx files. If you are already running USBBSDoor, these new files should be used and the MODEM file can be deleted. * USBBSDoor now accepts ANY three digit number as an area code. In the past, area codes always had a 0 or 1 as the second digit. USBBSDoor would validate area code input by making sure the three digit number met this requirement before searching the entire list. A shortage of area codes caused the second-digit 0/1 requirement to be dropped by the phone companies recently. * The AREA, AREA2 and AREA3 files have been updated with the new area codes since USBBSDoor's last release. * The BRAND file reflects the current USBBS List software brand codes. * USBBSDOR becomes USBBSDoor - "USBBSDOR" was conceived in early 1987 for a single BBS package. In that time period, for that particular software, the common nomenclature for naming "doors" was to fit the door name into eight characters (the DOS limit for a file's base name). Therefore DOOR was often clipped to DOR. Hence this door's original name, USBBSDOR. That naming convention is long a thing of the past. For the last few years "USBBSDOR"'s author has desired to change the name, fearing people might think he cannot spell his own program's name! Now this program will be spelled "USBBSDoor". Of course, some file names such as USBBSDOR.EXE will remain the same. * * * QSUSBBS New Features * * * * The filename has changed for separate QSUSBBS distribution and is is now QSUSB21.ZIP (or QSUSB21.ARJ, etc.). In the last release of USBBSDoor (5.3) the filename was QSUSB20.ZIP. - To create a new QSUSB21.ZIP, make sure the NEW QSUSBBS.EXE and QSUSBBS.DOC are located with the NEW USBBSDOR.EXE. Then run the enclosed QSREG.BAT file. * QSUSBBS now accepts ANY three digit number as an area code. See the text above for USBBSDoor for details. * The area code help screens have been updated with the new area codes since QSUSBBS's last release. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [ USBBSDoor 5.3 New Features 12/23/93 ] ------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * USBBSDoor now recognizes the RIP designation in PCBoard, Wildcat!, and DOOR.SYS modes. When encountered, USBBSDoor will act as if the caller is in regular COLOR mode. * If USBBSDoor detects a RIP communications program, it will clear the caller's RIP screen and set it to 25 line mode. This is needed for USBBSDoor's list display screen which is designed to be used on a 25 line screen. * QSUSBBS, the off-line USBBS list searcher and viewer, has several new features: - At the QSUSBBS.EXE input prompt, the user may now enter an "A" alone (without the quotes) to display a list of area codes by state. An "S" may be entered alone to display a list of state code abbreviations. - If no USBBS list file name is given on the QSUSBBS.EXE command line, QSUSBBS will search for the newest file name matching USBBS???.LST in the current directory, and use one if found. - QSUSBBS will add the extension .LST to the command-line list filename (USBBSxxx.LST) if not included during startup. - The filename has changed for separate QSUSBBS distribution and is now QSUSB21.ZIP (QSUSB21.ARJ, etc.). * A command line switch was added for users of intelligent multi-port serials cards (requiring a FOSSIL driver) on some nodes, and regular serial ports on others. This switch is /NOFOSSIL and should be used on the nodes not using a FOSSIL (and only when FOSSIL mode has been turned on in USBBSDoor's configuration screen). This switch would be placed in the door batch files on the nodes where needed. * The AREA files reflect the new 610 area code in Pennsylvania. * USBBSDoor now contains an internal ANSI emulator for those folks who still use the old fashioned "one ASCII file for mono, one ANSI file for color" method for menu, hello, help, etc. files. While ANSI.SYS has never been needed on the host to use USBBSDoor's screen movement or any of the menus, etc. done with color macros, it was needed for local display if the menus, etc. were ANSI files. * USBBSDoor's use of the popular DOOR.SYS file is now documented in the USBBSDOR.DOC file. This is to assist Sysops whose BBS software does not create the standard 52 line DOOR.SYS or any of the other formats supported by USBBSDoor. -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Very early versions are listed below with their version numbers and release dates only.
