ISM may be used on any Netbios compatible LAN. DOS 3.3 or higher. A VGA or better color monitor is highly recommended, but ISM will run with CGA and mono monitors. ISM will run on an XT with 640k ram & dos 3.3 but will be very slow and is (NOT RECOMMENDED) INSTALLATION You must use the INSTALL program from FLOPPY DRIVE A or B to properly set up ISM on your hard disk. Although the author is not yet a member of ASP, this software is designed to conform to ASP standards of shareware quality, support and definition. This program is to be presented to ASP for evaluation in the very near future and any and all modifications required by ASP Will be promptly included. NETWORKS This program is written in Clipper (c) and is NetBios compatible. It has been successfully TESTED using Windows for WG 3.1 as well as Lantastic 4.1 - 6.0. Banyan VINES & Novell personal Netware 3.X. should work without any problems. In general, any NetBios compatible LAN should have no trouble with ISM. Call if you have a problem with a specific LAN operating system. Remember to set the file ISM.EXE to read/only when using ISM on a network. TIPS FOR COMPUTERIZING YOUR SHOP Setting up your shop for the first time on computer need not be a drawn out and intimidating process. Don't try to input past history. Start fresh from the first day. Enter your inventory but don't enter quantities on hand until everyone feels comfortable with ISM. After a month or so of use, do a physical inventory and then enter quantities on hand and your re-order levels. If you decide to use the TSB's and LABOR OP's options you can enter this data on the fly. Before very much use you will have a database of labor op's and labor times that are a true benefit to your shop and not loaded down with op's you'll never use and are set by someone else. Backups are very important to your valuable data. All hard drives fail (it's just a question of when) and when that happens all data may become un-recoverable. Select one person to be responsible for backups. DO NOT store your backups in the same place as your computer. (a fire will get them both) Take some time to learn the program (it's really very easy) before you start to train others. It can take up to 90 days for your shop to become fully computerized. Purchase a hardware service contract if one is available for your system. ISM IS SIMPLICITY As you know, there are many shop manager programs out there. We have tried to incorporate the good stuff and leave out the junk. Prices range from $500 to $ 5000 and more. In order to make ISM easy to use and own we have set a real world priceing structure. ISM took many thousands of hours to code and test not including beta testing in repair shops. Don't be fooled by the low price, and ease of use, ISM is very sophisticated. If there is a feature you have just got to have, we can put it in. And quickly. If it is a feature that only a limited number of shops might need we can customize ISM for you at very reasonable prices. ISM uses DBF data files. The most popular format in the world. If you have been using another program that uses this format (Microbiz for ex.) our programmers can import their data into ISM at very reasonable prices. Remember, ISM is NOT a point of sale system converted to repair shop use. It was developed from scratch to be a repair shop managment system and to be 'Technician friendly'. Limited Accounting capability has been included in ISM. An RO and Invoice GENERAL LEDGER feature produces detailed reports THAT can be generated for manual input into the accounting package (or to the accountant) of your choice. Labor op's and Service Bulletin data are not included with ISM but the capability to input and use your own TSB's and labor op's IS included.
