ANIMAL 1.0a (c) Lee Sumner Visual Basic Version Jan 1995 ---------------------------------------------------------- Animal is a simple guessing game based upon a question and answer style. You should start by thinking of an animal, then run the program. The program will ask questions to try and determine the identity of your animal. You simply answer Yes or No to the questions. If you think of an animal that the program does not know, it will ask you firstly for the name of the animal, then for a question to differentiate between the animal you were thinking of and the animal the program guessed. The question you give the program must be answerable by Yes or No otherwise the logic of the program fails. Questions such as "Does it have legs ?" or "Is it nocturnal ?" are the right kind of questions, Questions such as "How many legs does it have ?" are no use because the answer is not Yes or No. The program then asks you for the correct answer for the new animal. Now for the clever bit(?) - the program remembers this new animal and, in theory, will not make the same mistake again. When you add a new animal you are asked firstly if it should be added to the 'list', this 'list' is held in memory while the program runs. This option is given to allow you to discard a new animal if you made a typo etc. When you choose NO to the question "Do you want another go ?" the program checks if you have added any new animals and offers to save them to disk. The animal database is stored in "ANIMAL.DAT" in the working directory of the program. If you want to make the program forget every animal it knows and start afresh, simply delete this file before running the program. INSTALLATION ------------ To install the program simply unzip the file animal.exe into a directory. To add an icon to program manager, create a new group by choosing File - New from the Program manager or open an existing group such as 'games'. Then choose File - New and select 'new program item'.
