TITLE: Quick Installation Guide PRODUCT: WordPerfect Office 4.0 for DOS and Windows If all users who need access to WordPerfect Office can log in to the same network file server, you can use this Quick Install Guide to set up your WordPerfect Office system. This guide provides instructions for setting up a WordPerfect Office system contained on one file server only. If the size or configuration of your network prohibits all users from logging in to the same network file server, you should use the Administration Guide to plan and set up your WordPerfect Office system. The Administration Guide provides instructions for setting up a WordPerfect Office system that spans multiple file servers. Quick System Overview The WordPerfect Office system you will be creating is shown below. FILE SERVER with post office and domain directory Network Workstation Workstation The WordPerfect Office terms post office and domain are explained in the following two sections. Post Office A post office is simply a directory structure on a file server. The post office directory structure serves two main purposes: It contains the users' mailboxes, or databases, where users' messages are stored It stores the client software that the users run to send and receive messages. Domain A post office must belong to a domain. This domain structure provides a way to organize a multiple-post office system and to administer the system. In the single-post office system that you are setting up, organization is not an issue. Therefore, the only purpose of the domain is to provide a domain directory that serves as the administration directory for the post office and as an archive directory for the client software. The domain directory does not have to be on the same file server as the post office directory. All administration for the post office is done through the domain directory. If you later decide to add another post office to the domain, you will also administer that post office through the domain directory; this provide centralized administration of all the domain's post offices. Installation Tasks Listed below are the tasks required to set up your WordPerfect Office system. Each of the tasks is explained in detail in the WordPerfect Office Administration Guide. Task Explained in þ Task 1: From a 386-based PC (minimum), create a drive mapping to the directory in which you want to install the WP Office software. This directory becomes your domain directory (the directory from which you will perform the administration tasks for your post office). Setting Up the Admin Station in chapter 3 þ Task 2: Run the INSTALL.EXE program on the Admin 1 disk to install the administration files. You will also be asked if you want to install the Windows client files and/or the DOS client files. Place a check in the corresponding boxes to indicate that you want them installed. You may install client files for Windows, DOS, or neither one. Installing the WP Office Software in chapter 3 þ Task 3: Run the INSTALL.EXE program for the Windows and/or DOS client software. Installing the WP Office Software in chapter 3 þ Task 4: Install the Macintosh client software to each user's computer. Macintosh Specific Setup in chapter 5 þ Task 5: Change to your domain directory, enter ad to start the ADMIN program, then enter the information to create the domain. Creating the Domain in chapter 3 þ Task 6: Create the post office and copy the client files to the post office directory. The post office can be on the same file server as the domain directory or on another file server that all users have access to. Creating Post Offices in chapter 3 þ Task 7: Add users to the post office. Importing Users to Post Offices in chapter 3 or Manually Adding Users to Post Offices in chapter 3 þ Task 8: Assign the necessary post office directory rights to your users. Assigning Post Office Directory Rights to Users in chapter 5 þ Task 9: Set up your DOS users. DOS Specific Setup in chapter 5 þ Task 10: Set up your Windows users. This includes running the administration setup program (ADMSETUP.EXE) to decompress the Windows client files on the post office. Windows Specific Setup in chapter 5 þ Task 11: Set up your Macintosh users. Macintosh Specific Setup in chapter 5 þ Task 12 (Optional): Add resources to the post office. Adding Resources to Post Offices in chapter 3 þ Task 13 (Optional): Create groups of users and resources. Creating Groups in chapter 3 Additional Information If you install a single post office and decide you need additional post offices installed on other file servers (to service users on those file servers), you can complete the following tasks to add more post offices to your existing system. Important: A multiple-post office system requires a message server. The message server is responsible for moving messages between post office. A network station (minimum 80386 processor with 2MB expanded/extended memory and 40 MB hard drive) must be dedicated to running the message server. See System Overview in Chapter 2: Planning in the WordPerfect Office Administration Guide for additional information. Task Explained in þ Task 1: Repeat tasks 6 through 13 above to create each post office and set up the post offices users. Table above þ Task 2: Install the message server software to the domain directory.
