HISTORY OF UPGRADES SINCE 4.2 upgrade v4.2b 4/11/94 1) A reported GPF error when moving menu items out of sequence was fixed. upgrade v4.2c 4/21/94 1) Fix a reported minor problem when changing ICONs to a the menu item. 2) Checks user's effective rights to the dir where Winmenu resides at load time. If user has write access, he or she is a Winmenu administrator. upgrade v4.2d 4/25/94 1) Fix a minor problem passing parameters when executing a program upgrade v4.2e 4/27/94 1) Routine now also checks effective rights to the INI file names and directories to determine whether the user can change a menu or not. upgrade v4.2f 4/29/94 1) the routine that checks the users effective rights now properly recognizes the correct file server upgrade v4.2g 5/2/94 1) Fix a reported problem that did not allow users to update their own PERSONAL menus. upgrade v4.2h 5/24/94 1) The clock uses now the international setting defined in the Windows Control Panel. 2) Admin.exe was fixed to not disable the Config menu when winmenu.ini was not found. 3) admin.hlp was upgraded to include additional information for Netware 4.x installation. upgrade v4.2i 6/1/94 1) The CacheALL= command was added. See [Options] in admin.hlp 2) Admin.hlp was updated. upgrade v4.2j 6/17/94 1) The routine that checks the user's registration number was fixed. 2) WINMNEWS.EXE was enhanced to allow users expanding and shrinking the windows. It also now remembers the last screen settings. upgrade v4.2k 7/1694 1) Winmenu now engages in DDE communication with new DOS window sessions to pass the user selected ICON and description. 2) Winmenu consumes 20k less o RAM memory due to recompilation using the medium memory model vs large model of previous versions. Some functions are a little bit faster too. upgrade v4.2L 7/27/94 1) Winmenu now executes the programs in the "startup" group of Program Manager when running as the Windows' shell. 2) You may optionally setup Winmenu to ask for confirmation when exiting. See online help under The [Options] section. upgrade v5.0 11/10/94 1) Winmenu now uses a file format similar to the Program Manager to store the menu definitions. The file has extension of .GRP and allow much faster loads and consume less memory. The utility WCONVERT.EXE now is included to allow users of previous versions to convert the INI file to .GRP files. The INI files are still used only to store user switches and other configuration data. 2) Drag-and-drop may be used to move menu items positions across pages in a menu section. 3) Users may now drag-and-drop menu items into a TRASH can to delete them. 4) The Menu Maintenance dialog allow administrators to enter a file server, volume and path to use when executing an appli- cation. This is used to optionally attach and detach to another file server for executing the application. Great for users of CDROM file servers where the login access may be limited. 5) The Menu Maintenance dialog also allow administrators to set a maximum count of users that may be allowed to use any given application concurrently. Great to meet software license agreements and control the use of resources. 6) Users may now rename the pages in each menu section to further organize the applications. 7) The online help modules have been revisited to account for enhancements and changes. upgrade 5.0h 12/23/94 1) GPF errors with some screen savers is fixed. 2) Access rights to files and directories are now working properly. 3) GPF error when executing some applications is also corrected 4) Online help information updated upgrade 5.0J 01/02/95 1) The MAP= field can now be used to map a data drive. Previous version used this field exclusively to execute a program. v5.0J can now map a data drive and execute the program from one of the current available drives. If a drive letter is specified in the Command Line and WorkDir fields, Winmenu will not use the drive mapped in the MAP= to execute the program. The mapped drive can then be used by the executing program for data access. Note: Drives mapped by the MAP= field are "unmapped" when the executing program terminates. Unless another executing program is using the same drive. upgrade 5.0k 01/06/95 1) Routine that checks the network was enhanced to properly detect the network under Windows NT 3.5 . Winmenu now works under WFWG, NT and Windows 3.1 and above. SHOuld work for WIndows 95 (a.k.a Chicago). upgrade 5.0L 01/13/95 1) Some functions were moved to a DLL (wmenu.dll) to eliminate some memory problems caused in certain systems. 2) The AutoArrange= functions was revisited. upgrade 5.0M 01/14/95 1) Minor modification to better handle 256 color res. upgrade 5.0N 01/15/95 1) The modification in v5.0M was buggy. This version fixed the error. upgrade 5.1 02/05/95 1) Attach/detach routine revisited 2) Accessory programs (Blue ribbon) can have a work directory. 3) NWCALLS.DLL is now used instead of NWNETAPI.DLL to conform to Novell wishes.
