Windows Deleter v1.0 Welcome to windows Deleter v1.0. Table of Contents 1 Warning 2 Purpose of the Program 3 Use of the Program 4 The DELETER.INI file 5 The .DLT files 6 Registering -------------------------------------------- 1 - Warning -------------------------------------------- This program is made to delete files. If you use it, then you acknowledge that the author has NO responsibility for damage done to your disk drive (and any repercussions from that damage) either through misuse or malfunction of the program. -------------------------------------------- 2 - Purpose of the Program -------------------------------------------- The Borland C++ (Windows, OS/2) and MicroSoft Visual C++ compilers create a large number of temporary files when they compile projects. Most of these files do not need to be stored in backups or revision control and are not needed in the final product. Furthermore since many people compile their programs from the Integrated Development Environments offered by these products the temporary files are usually left to the user to delete. Since both of the above compilers generate approximately 14 different file extensions, manually deleting them can be quite a pain. This program makes it quick, visible and easy! -------------------------------------------- 3 - Use of the Program -------------------------------------------- The main window of this program has a group of checkboxes. Each checkbox represents an extension. To delete files, specify a directory in the combo box at the bottom of the main window (the combo box can also be filled from a Browsing dialog) and press the Delete key. The program will check the specified directory for files which end in the extension of any combo box which is checked. A dialog comes up with a list of files that will be deleted. By pressing OK, you may delete those files. A log file (DELETER.LOG) is created in the executables directory if the LOGFILE- Use Logfile menu item is checked. You may also delete this log file using LOGFILE- Purge Logfile. -------------------------------------------- 5 - The DELETER.INI file -------------------------------------------- Please keep this file in the same directory as your executable. It contains important information which allows your deleter dialog to pop-up in the same place and containing the same information as when you last left it. -------------------------------------------- 6 - The .DLT files -------------------------------------------- Every .DLT file contains a list of extensions and information which specifies whether or not they are currently checked. Deleter comes with three .DLT files BORLAND.DLT Extensions created by Borland C++ VISUALC.DLT Extensions created by MicroSoft C++ DEFAULT.DLT Extensions usually associated with temporary files. FILE-EDIT EXTENSIONS allows you can edit these the current group of extensions. FILE-SAVE EXTENSIONS allows you to save your changes under a new .DLT file. FILE-LOAD EXTENSIONS allows you to switch to a new .DLT file Every time you quit Deleter, it will ask you if you want to save the currently loaded .DLT file if you have changed any extensions, checked or unchecked any Checkboxes. -------------------------------------------- 7 - Registering -------------------------------------------- This program is NOT freeware, it is SHAREWARE.
