FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - MARBLE GUESS FOR PC BOARD (FREEWARE with SOURCE) Scarborough, ON - Blueview Software is pleased to announce the release of Marble Guess, a rendition of classic game of Master Mind. This version has been specifically written to work on Pc Board systems. The game features a simple to use interface with support for RIPScrip 1.54, users will need a RipScrip 1.54 compatible communications program to play. Marble Guess was written to demonstrate what is possible by using PPLC (Pc Board compiler) and our RipScrip development tools, JDraw and JMedia. The game uses several techniques that can be used when creating other games. The entire source code is also included so that others who are interested in developing products with RipScrip can take a look and see how Marble Guess was done. All the RipScrip files are also included and can be changed very easily to give Marble Guess and entirely different look. The original game was written in Turbo Pascal using the 320x200x256 mode and Deluxe Paint to create the graphics. It took roughly a week to complete. The Pc Board version was written in PPLC and uses the default 640x350x16 RipScrip 1.54 mode. The RipScrip graphics were created entirely with JDraw. Several key features were used such as the "What you see is what you get" button designer, the Wizards feature was used to create the pop-up menus, and using the object editing mode allowed several things to be done much faster. Using a competing editor such as Ripaint 1.54 would have taken several hours longer to create the exact same graphics. JMedia was also used to edit a few things in the RIP files. Most involved just changing a few things in the mouse regions and button commands. This could have been done is JDraw as well but the process was so much faster using JMedia. The time period to complete Marble Guess for Pc Board was three days. Most of that time was spent testing and discovering a bug in the PPLC compiler, actually a bug in Pc Board that causes the random function not to work properly. The file can be downloaded from Salt Air BBS, home of Pc Board. The file is also available from Baudeville BBS (416) 283-0114 to first time callers, filename is MGPPE10.ZIP. Evaluation versions of JDraw and JMedia are also available, filenames for those files are JDL21.ZIP and JMEDIA11.ZIP. Bullentin 17 also contains a number of other RIP related programs that may also be of some interest.
