 1/2    c   sugar
 1          1 1/2 cups water

I use sugar & water.Based on the size of my feeders I use 1/2 cup sugar to
about 1 - 1 1/2 cups water.No need for it to be red.
I've been using this method for years.No need to buy the stuff from the store.
The  humming birds need sugar,which is cheaper & easier to fix at home.
