Once it is unZIPped run SETUP.EXE. This asks if you would like Darn! to: 1). Automatically launch Darn! the first time you start Windows, 2). Automatically launch Darn! each time you start Windows, 3). Not automatically launch Darn!, or 4). Uninstall Darn! Next, you are asked which directory you would like Darn! installed into (if you want it in a different directory from the default just type it in). Setup then prompts for your name. Once this is entered Darn!'s files are copied to the specified directory and a Program Manager group and icons are created. (Don't forget to delete the files in the temporary directory once the program is installed. They are no longer needed.) I recommend setting the program to automatically launch Darn! the first time you start Windows each day in order to derive the maximum benefits from the program. Features -------- Listing/Description of Features: Darn!'s Main Screen displays the current date and time (and the day you are viewing if it is different from today's date), a famous quote for the day (this feature can be turned off if you desire), a list of today's events, and a list of upcoming events (displays events for a user-specified number of days in the future). Darn! can be launched automatically when you start up your computer (see Installation section) in order for it to remind you of any events for the day (the registered version of Darn! has a utility called Lookout! that pops up a reminder whenever it is time for an appointment). You can print out a complete list of events, or you can view/print the details of a specific event. You can also call up a calendar, which displays one month at a time, from either the Main Screen or from the Events Editor The Events Editor lets you add, modify, search or delete events from the currently open database. You can add Annual, Monthly, Bi-Monthly, Appointment (one-time-only events), Every Other Week, and nth Day of the Month events. The Editor has data fields for Month, Day, Year, Name, Event Type, Address (there are three fields available for this), Phone Number and Notes. The Event Type List has the most common types of events listed (Anniversary, Birthday, Doctor Appointment, Mortgage/Rent Payment, Project Due and much more) or you can just type in an event type of your own creation. Events in the List have associated icons which appear on Darn!'s Main Screen next to the listed event. Buttons on the Event Editor are: Age, Choose, First/Last Entry, Next/Previous Entry, View Calendar, Search, Next, New, Delete, and Help Any appointments which have past can be saved in an archive file which can be loaded and edited at any time. Darn! can also warn you when past appointments are being erased (the time intervals at which Darn! clears past appointments are user-definable). Darn!'s File Menu's choices are: Open an Events List, Print Today's List, and Exit Darn!. The Actions Menu's options are: Show Event, View a Different Day, Edit Events List (calls up the Events Editor), and Sort Events List. The Options Menu has choices for: Show Quotes (on/off), Sounds (on/off), and Preferences. The Help Menu has options for: Contents, Help on Help, Order Darn!, About Shareware and About Darn! (the About box displays the program name and version number, registration information, available memory, system resources, if a math co-processor is present (yes/no), and the amount of free hard disk space (in bytes). Darn!'s Toolbar has buttons for: Open an Event's List, Edit Events List, View a Different Day, Print Today's List, Help, About Darn! (About Box displays the program name and version number, registration info, available memory, free system resources, math co-processor (yes/no), and free hard disk space.), and Exit Darn! Darn!'s Status Bar (at the bottom of its window) displays what each menu function does, displays the name of the currently open database, gives you the number of events currently displayed on the main screen and shows you the numbers of days Darn! has been set to look into the future for events. Some of Darn!'s other features include: It can suggest traditional gifts for wedding anniversaries (if the particular anniversary is in its database). It comes with a database of holidays which can be edited/added to. It uses WAV files which tell you if you have anything scheduled today or not. Help/Documentation Rating: 8.75 The program comes with "readme" text and Windows format Help files which should answer most questions you may have about the program. It also utilizes Help Balloons which appear over Toolbar buttons when you move your mouse cursor over them. Summary ------- Darn! Don't Forget is a really easy to run and useful little utility. It can help you to never again go through the embarrassment of forgetting birthday's, anniversaries, appointments, etc. The ability to create different databases for different needs and the flexibility in modifying these databases makes Darn! Don't Forget well worth adding to your system (especially if you set the program to launch when you first start Windows each day). I recommend you give it a try!! Problems and Suggestions ------------------------ List of Problems found: There were no conflicts, General Protection Faults (GPF's) or program errors encountered during my evaluation of this software. Suggestions for improvements: Add to the calendar's function so that you can view a day's events or enter/edit events by simply clicking on the day in question instead of having to type the month, day and year into little information fields. (NOTE: This enhancement is planned for a future version of Darn! Don't Forget!). Technical Support ----------------- Technical Support Rating: 9 Description: All inquiries made about the program were prompty answered (via E-Mail) with comprehensive and helpful responses. What do you get when you register? ---------------------------------- If you order the Registration Key Version you will receive a special "key" code that disables all shareware messages. If you order the Full Version you will receive the latest version of Darn! Don't Forget! on disk, a printed manual and three bonus utilities to use with Darn!. These utilities are: Lookout!
