Dear Readers, In my previous reviews I seperately rated the installation, of a program, on a scale of one to ten. However, some programs utilize Setup or Install utilities (which create the directory for the program files, copy the files into that directory, and then create any Program Manager groups and icons) and others require you to manually install the program yourself. In rating ALL installations on this scale it came to my attention that I was comparing apples to oranges. It made it appear as if a program was being penalized for not having a Setup or Install feature (in truth, a program without an Install or Setup feature is easier to delete from your system (if you decide you do not like it), is smaller in size (so it is quicker to download), and - most importantly - is easier and more secure to copy onto your system. Let me explain this one - if the program your are manually installing has system files that are older than ones you already have, you do not have to copy them. However, there are a lot of older (and not so old) shareware products using Setup or Install utilities that do not give you this option. They simply replace your existing files even if the ones being replaced are newer and better!!! This can really screw up your Windows environment). To remedy this situation for the future, I will only give number ratings to those programs which USE a Setup or Install utility. If it does not use one "(Manual Installation)" will appear where the rating number usually does. As always, if you have any suggestions, comments, tips you would like to share, program recommendations - anything - just drop me an message at Mythdancer@aol.com - hope to hear from you soon!
