GREETING.MP2 A sample MPEG audio file README.TXT The file you are reading! **************************************************************************** STARTING THE XINGSOUND MPEG AUDIO PLAYER The XingSound MPEG Audio Player includes a Windows program "XING_PLY.EXE". As with any Windows program, you can start the XING_PLY.EXE program in a number of ways, e.g, from the File Manager or with the "Run" command in the Program Manager's "File" menu. It is easiest to create a new Program Manager item for the XING_PLY.EXE program: 1. Start Windows and open the Program Manager window; 2. Choose "New" from the Program Manager's "File" menu; the "New Program Object" window appears; 3. Select the "Program Item" radio button and click the "OK" button; the "Program Item Properties" window appears; 4. Enter "XingSound MPEG Audio Player" in the "Description" field, enter the full pathname of the XING_PLY.EXE program in the "Command Line" field, enter the pathname of the directory that contains the XING_PLY.EXE program in the "Working Directory" field, and click the OK button; A new program item "XingSound MPEG Audio Player" appears. NOTE: In Windows, an audio file can be played directly by giving the audio filename as a command line option. A command line parameter set having the audio filename only will cause the player to play one time and then close. A command line parameter set having the filename, followed by a -s will cause the player to play one time and then stay open, leaving the audio file loaded. 5. Double-click the "XingSound MPEG Audio Player" icon to start the program. The XingSound MPEG Audio Player appears. You can now use the XingSound MPEG Audio Player as described in the program's on-line help. **************************************************************************** IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING PLAYBACK QUALITY This freely-distributable version of the XingSound MPEG Audio Player uses a lower-precision, software-only MPEG decoder; i.e., MPEG data is decoded by the XingSound software and sent to your PC's audio board via your Windows audio driver. This process achieves only lower-quality, monaural audio playback. To achieve high-quality, stereo playback, you will require the retail version of XingSound. ****************************************************************************
