Dear Fellow SysOps, Now you can OWN the actual software used to create client checks received by FAX, over the telephone, or by modem on a BBS. Personally, I do not like the wait for checks to arrive from the use of a check processing service bureau, the "account setup" fees, mailing charges, etc. Other companies "lease" the software with a "security" device attached to your printer port that counts the quantity of checks you print, and you are charged accordingly. (As high as .45 cents per check!). With checks On-Line Check Writing Software, you eliminate all of that. YOU control the processing of the checks, YOU own the software outright! All you need is a Windows based computer, and an inexpensive laser printer that can emulate a Hewlett-Packard laser printer. Checks On-Line also complies with the new Federal Trade Commission Law to take effect on January 1, 1996 as follows: "Any telemarketing firm accepting check information over the telephone, FAX, or other electronic means, must have a verifiable procedure in place. Any of the following are acceptable procedures. 1. Receive written authorization from your customer by fax or mail. 2. Tape record the conversation with your customer's knowledge and approval. 3. Mail out written notice to your customer prior to depositing the check in your bank account. Notice must be in the mail prior to you making the deposit." When you print a check with Checks On-Line, the top portion is a ready to mail "Check Authorization Notice" that meets item number 3, and fits in a dual windowed envelope with the customer's address and your return address showing through the windows. No envelope addressing required... You can mail the Check Authorization Notice on your way to the bank to make your deposit!... with the Checks On-Line program, you're up there with the big boys... You can do exactly what they do for a lot less money. Checks On-Line will very rapidly pay for itself by saving all those "FEES"! If you sell on-line, or charge subscription fees, this is another good way to get paid for your services NOW... Many people still don't have credit cards, or may be approaching their credit limit and wish to keep that for emergencies... In fact, I have found that many people prefer to make purchases by check! Yes, that's right. Check! But to expect them to sit down and write out a check, address an envelope, find a stamp, then mail it, requires more motivation then some of them have at any given time. The impulse to purchase is gone. However, if they can just fax you a check, or fill-in a questionnaire right on-line, that's easy! Human nature being what it is, let's make it as easy as possible for them to buy from you... How does checks On-Line work? One way or another, you need your customer's check information. The customer should fill-in the check just as if they are going to mail it to you... They keep the original as a "duplicate" of the transaction. Then they FAX it to you, or fill-in an on-line questionnaire that will ask for the information on the check. What you need to know to process their check is: 1. Their name and address as printed on the check. 2. The name and address of the bank as shown on the check 3. The check number 4. The bank "routing" number as shown in those strange looking numbers printed on the bottom of the check. (how to identify it is explained in the Checks On-Line manual). The routing number will consist of 9 digits. 5. The amount of the check. 6. Their bank account number as shown to the right of the routing number. 7. And finally, the "bank transit code" shown in the upper right of the check. Example: 16-21/1220 That's it! Now you can duplicate the check in Checks On-Line, print it, and deposit. Their bank will process it just like any other check to their account. Easy enough don't you think? It's a great way to do business, and is a great suppliment to credit card transactions also. Again, not everyone wants to use a credit card for telephone purchasing, but until now it was either a credit card or C.O.D... This is also a great way to eliminate those credit card "discount" fees to have to pay for the privilege or having a "Merchant Account". That's provided you can qualify for one in the first place!
