IMPORTANT UPGRADE INFO FOR USERS OF PRIOR 3.0x VERSIONS OF TNC If you are already running a copy of TNC prior to 3.04, please follow the steps below. This will ensure the smoothest (and safest) upgrade. The new EN511.EXE / DE511.EXE files are NOT compatible with prior versions, (due to use of data compression) so you must follow the steps below VERY carefully. 1. Make sure you have a backup copy of your OLD version of TNC. (Especially, since this is a BETA version). 2. UNZIP TNC304 into an empty subdirectory (don't place it over your existing version of TNC, at least not yet anyway). 3. Copy ONLY DE511.EXE from the new version of TNC into your network's data directory (where your bbslist.net etc.... are). 4. Run you OLD version of TNC, select "Send DECODE Files" option. This should send the NEW DE511.EXE using the OLD EN511 encryption routines. 5. Tag the DE511.EXE file. 6. Then send it to all the nodes in your network. 7. Exit OLD version of TNC, and let the BBS analyze the network packet. 8. Do not be alarmed, if your BBS gets a TNC Error while your BBS is analyzing your packet. This is normal, since your BBS sent the DE511.EXE file using the OLD encryption, but you already have the NEW DE511.EXE. 9. It is now safe to copy the rest of the NEW TNC files over your old ones. Make sure new applicants to your network get the NEW DE511.EXE from now on. What's new in this BETA release! 1. Data Compression is used for TNC network updates whenever possible. 2. TNC can now send SSM's to your network. 3. TNC now creates a LOG file (TNCUPD.LOG) of files sent to your network, in your network's data directory. 4. VBBS compatibility? (Please TEST This) 5. File Sharing Built-In (for multi-line WWIV 4.23)
