12/03/95

*  New Upstate Area Code 864 has now kicked in!  Thanks to very detailed
   list of counties & exchanges provided by Ross Cassell, the area codes
   are now included for ALL SCNET systems.  This list is also added as a
   "Bonus File" (NEW864AC.TXT) for the next six SCNET BBS List archives.
   Mention of the above named file has been included in the FILE_ID.DIZ.
   If there are any errors in this major reshuffling, please say so NOW!

*  The S.C. Election Commission OFFICIALLY approved online registration!
   Visit SC Election Central on the Web at http://www.awod.com/election/
   We are THE 1st state to put voter registration forms on the internet!
   The URL to grab the voting forms is http://www.awod.com/election/reg/
   Kudos to Jim Faucette for his determination to help make this happen.
   Added REG2VOTE.TXT, USA Today's article & the announcement in SCIway!

*  A 1st-Ever Statewide Auction of USC/Clemson football tickets is a big
   success, despite some hardware/software problems.  Approval was given
   by the S.C. Auctioneers Commission - even though a state law says you
   can only sell them at just $1.00 over face price.  Thank you bidders!

*  Camden, SC now has new SCNET access from Camden Forum in Network 360.
   Special thanks to sysop Doyle Allen on filling another statewide gap!  

*  Unfortunately, 2 Upstate Fido networks have got "CUT-OFF" from SCNET.
   SCNETCUT.TXT file created, to help users ask those sysops to re-join.
   A fix may be in the works, but let those sysops know we DO want them!

11/01/95

*  DON'T FORGET!  December 3rd is start-up day on South Carolina's Brand
   New AREA CODE 864 for the Upstate!  Reminder on SCNET BBS List added.
   (The actual location of area code "switch-over line" widely unknown!)

*  The SC_ACC_SPORTS echo shall soon become officially added into SCNET!
   The Internet listserve, significantly slower than its SEC counterpart
   (Where ARE the ACC school fans?), will surely pick up for basketball.
   Moves to set up new gateway & get it backboned in Region 18 underway!

*  Companion SCNETADS.ZIP file was re-released again to reflect changes.

*  It should have been listed earlier, but John Jones has now taken over
   as Acting Moderator in SC_4SALE (He also moderates CHAS_4SALE echo.).

10/01/95

*  SCNET's "Head Cheerleader" sneaks in a quick STATEWIDE Radio Blurb on
   Gamecock Fan Line (1-800-781-2001) for the FREE Public BBS<=>Internet
   Gateways to USC & SEC Sports.  Plans to get more details published in
   The Gamecock (USC student newspaper) + Spurs & Feathers are underway!
   The USC announcer thought it was free commercial & kept it short, but
   Todd Ellis understood perfectly & said "Surfing The Net!" on the air!

*  A 1st-Ever Statewide RAM (Random Access Memory) Auction for 256K SIMM
   Chips in SC_4SALE was a Big Success!  Bidders opened in two different
   cities, the bids poured in (OVER what the auctioneer asked) & winning
   bid ended up 6 Times the opening price.  Thanks to ALL participating!

*  A key agreement has now been reached to create a new SCNET Listserve!
   This would allow allow ANY S.C. resident with access to the Internet,
   regardless of where they are, to participate in any SCNET discussion!
   With numerous options available to us, (New UUCP Gateway is the goal)
   this could take a while to set up to insure dupe loops are prevented.
   Please remain patient about this, so we can make sure we do it RIGHT!

*  The SCNET BBS List's automatic description file (FILE_ID.DIZ) now has
   keyboard characters only, so it can be posted & read on the internet.
   (DIZ means "Description In Zip" - a standard 1st created by PCBoard.)

09/01/95

*  New SC_GENEALOGY echo has been added to make genealogical information
   available to all residents FREE!  David Hamiter Sr. is the Moderator.
   This new echo may also eventually be added onto Region 18's backbone.

*  The SCIway (South Carolina Information Highway) echo now goes 2-Ways!
   Thanks to Rod Welch at The Citadel for allowing SCNET to participate.
   Please try to stay on the topic of improving in-state communications.

*  The 3 new sports echoes mentioned below have indeed been added to the
   Region 18 backbone.  A new SC_ACC_SPORTS echo is under consideration,
   but the Internet Listserve has just recently been started.  Once this
   has critical mass and traffic becomes steady, it may indeed be added.

*  The generic SCNET ads and BBS intro screens, formerly included inside
   the SCNET BBS List, are no longer included.  A NEW package of over 40
   files for SCNET sysops named SCNETADS.ZIP is ready NOW!  Sysops: FREQ
   this file using the Magic Name "SCNETADS" 24 hours a day at 1:372/50.

*  A new file, SCNETADS.TXT, is now included to list those 40+ files. :)

*  A new file, SCNET.NA, is also added to list all the SCNET echoes! <g>

08/01/95

*  SCNET (the net, not the echo) has now expanded by another 30 percent!
   The new echoes are: SC_USC_SPORTS, SC_SEC_SPORTS & SC_CLEMSON_SPORTS.
   Don Elton (Pro-Carolina BBS in Columbia) is Owner/Moderator of all 3.
   Jim Faucette's "semi-automatic I-net to F-net Xway" is working great,
   David Blanchard is getting these backboned on the Region 18 level and
   Dan Folk will send/pick up the mail with other SCNET's other traffic.
   (Thanks guys!)  Unlike the SCIway echo, ALL messages go back & forth.
   Yes, these are new BBS<=>Internet e-mail gateways available for FREE!
   (NO further expansion of SCNET is planned in the foreseeable future.)
   SysOps: PLEASE add these NOW, so we'll be ready for the 1st kickoffs!

*  The "damage to SCNET" mentioned below was minimal - an inconvenience.

07/01/95

*  In Charleston, the "Younger Generation" sysops challenge of local BBS
   policies established by the "Old Guard" sysops has led to some sysops
   deciding to quit carrying ANY local & statewide mail on their system.
   The extent of the damage to SCNET locally is still unclear right now.

06/01/95

*  The Orangeburg Computer Club won over the Hilton Head Island Computer
   Club in their "race" to make SCNET available to all of their members.
   (Congrats to Gordon Woodroof, SysOp at The OCC BBS!  Node# 1:3647/25)

05/01/95 

*  SCNET grows again, through the creation of new STATEWIDE SCIway Echo!
   SCIway stands for South Carolina Information Highway and is available
   to all S.C. citizens.  It originates as an Internet Listserve, at The
   Citadel in Charleston, but is a READ ONLY echo through SCNET for NOW!
   Jim Faucette is Acting Moderator of SCIway echo & also runs the gate.
   By this time, it should already be added onto the Region 18 backbone!
   This brings the total of SCNET Echoes to 7, with no more now planned.

*  South Carolina's First Statewide Online Auction underway in SC_4SALE!

04/01/95

*  BeachNet (Network 3627) and Pee Dee Net (Network 3651) join in SCNET!
   Thanks to the efforts of John Bloom in Myrtle Beach and Neysa Dormish
   in Hartsville, ALL 12 Fido networks are now relaying e-mail together.
   Yes, the "SCNET Circle" has now been completed, something "They" said
   could NEVER be done!  Congrats to everyone who helped make it happen!

*  The total number of systems connected is now safely above 100 boards!
   We've been using "80+" for a LONG time, hedging on the actual number.

03/01/95

*  In a sudden growth spurt, SCNET has now DOUBLED its number of echoes!
   Mucho thanks to Bob & Bunny McElwee for releasing their DCNet echoes.
   Thanks also to the folks at CorsairNet for giving us their blessings.

*  SC_LIB (Moderator Marylou Seymour, secretary of SC Libertarian Party)
   SC_DEMO (Moderator William Hamilton - who started "Democrats Online")
   SC_REPUB (Moderated by Robert McElwee - who started "The Republican")

*  Kudos to David Blanchard (Net 372 NEC) on getting them R18 backboned!
   Thanks also to Dave's boss, Dan Folk (Net 372 NC) for coordinating an
   exceedingly smooth transition & stopping them intrastate SCNET dupes!

*  David Johnson is now waving BIG guns from SC_4SALE echo as Moderator.
   (Eventually, we'll need to elect someone else to try to replace him.)

*  Somehow, all 6 SCNET echoes are now included on new Fidonet Echolist!

*  Congrats again Beaufort (Network 3650) sysops on joining us in SCNET!
   With THIS link, my SCNETNOT.YET file has now been officially retired!

02/01/95

*  New SC_4SALE echo starting slow, but new systems ARE adding steadily.
   (Revamped SCNET started slow too.  Ask local SysOps to get this NOW!)

*  New OS2SC echo is DROPPED!  Due to communication problem, (MY fault!)
   Charleston sysops were unaware the echo had been dropped in Columbia.
   (Interested sysops &/or users recommended to get regional OS/2 echo!)

*  Typical update changes: few new boards added & the dead ones deleted.
   (Please keep those updates coming!  Report ANY I need to add or cut!)

*  Congratulations to ALL in Beaufort, for reorganizing as Network 3650!
   SCNETNOT.YET file has now expanded to show ALL corresponding numbers.
   (Now, if they ALL [H.H.I. Computer Group too!] can just add SCNET...)

*  Great News!  The new SC_4SALE echo is now added at the Region 18 hub!
   (Sysops: Please add this echo ASAP to help S.C.'s economic vitality!)

*  Thanks to the effort of Ross Cassell of Spartanburg & Sam Shasteen of
   Greenville, SCNET has been making significant strides in the upstate!

*  Special sysop files (SCNET and SC_4SALE echo ads, etc.) now included!

*  Despite much discussion as of late, SCNET will remain Self-Moderated!

*  It was pointed out that FREQ (File REQuest) info wasn't clear enough.
   (Added an extra line near top advising sysops of Magic Name "SCNET"!)

*  It's amazing - this now marks the SCNET BBS List's "1st Anniversary"!

*  Charleston hub (CHAS_Net) (SCNET & SC_SYSOP) was moved just recently.
   (Arcs & Sparks is down and the Roost BBS assumes the responsibility.)

*  Columbia was temporarily cut-off from SCNET, but they are back again!
   (Hopefully, SCNET for Greenville will be re-organized sometime SOON!)

09/01/94

*  Charleston Fidonet has suffered a shakeup.  Numerous changes unclear.
   (Fortunately, SCNET is bunched in the CHAS_* echoes & never stopped.)  
 
08/01/94

*  Naming convention for the archive(s) was fine-tuned, eliminating "-".
   (Specifically, THIS archive is SCNET12.ZIP, instead of SCNET-12.ZIP.)

*  We still need sysops new to SCNET to report that they are pulling it!
   (Much effort is made to keep the list as accurate as possible, but..)

*  Due to numerous requests, sysops can request SCNET BBS Lists by FREQ!
   (For simplicity, the Magic Name shall always remain as just "SCNET".)

07/01/94

*  Naming convention has been changed to reflect the # of each new list!
   (Calling it SCNETBBS.ZIP led to some systems rejecting it as a dupe!)

*  As you will soon notice, a new list will now only be created monthly!
   (The numbers will now be in synch with Michael Dodge's SCBBS## List!)

*  The date for each SCNET BBS List is now prominently displayed at top!
   (This may prevent the complaints about errors from any OLD listings.)

*  Efforts continue to bring boards in Orangeburg & Hilton Head in soon!
   (Thanks to Dan Folk of Big Dog's BBS for sending them Wildcat files!)

06/01/94

*  Faxed copy of Associated Press SCNET story to Palmetto Computer News!
   (Done earlier, but 2nd copy may help it to run in some future issue.)

*  SCNET BBS List no longer designates pay BBS ($), or NC/NEC positions.
   (Since there's no way to be accurate on this, it is best left alone!)

*  Numerous changes have been made to the files in SCNETBBS.ZIP archive!
   (Sysops: Please come get a copy of it, it's the best one yet by FAR!)

05/28/94

*  Sad news: We've lost a few Charleston boards who were carrying SCNET.
   (I've begun to shame, I mean convince, some sysops to replace those.)

05/22/94

*  Chuck Waugh contacts Samantha Cramer from The Lost Child in Florence!
   (Word of SCNET spreads to Hartsville & other boards in Pee Dee area.)

*  Word of SCNET spreads from Zoo TV to other boards who relay BeachNet!
   (Pat Finnerty at LoOnEy BiN agrees to hub SCNET for The Grand Stand.)

*  Since at least 2 BBS in above nets agreed to join, they are included!
   (Hopefully, more boards in these areas will be adding in SCNET soon.)

05/06/94

*  New SCNETBBS.ZIP archive has been made to include SCNET-AP.TXT in it.
   (Please help to spread this relatively small file all across SC, OK?)

*  Came across 2 more nodes that have been relaying SCNET for some time.
   (These sysops never responded to my inquiries, so I overlooked them.)

*  The Associated Press releases a *STATEWIDE* news wire story on SCNET!
   (If this doesn't spread the word all across the state, NOTHING will!)

*  The aforementioned article now included in the SCNETBBS.ZIP archives.
   (Permission to post on a BBS & reprint this as SCNET-AP.TXT granted!)

*  SCNETNFO.TXT rewritten to omit that SCNET has not received any press.
   (Special thanks to Bruce Smith of AP for writing an excellent story!)

04/28/94

*  I drew fancy ANSI & ASCII ads to also serve as headers in a Bulletin!
   (SysOps, Please Post!  Use SCNETAD.ANS [& .ASC] within SCNETBBS.ZIP!)

*  The aforementioned ads have now been added on top of the list itself!
   (SOMEBODY needs to post these for every local net in South Carolina!)

*  We also need someone for each net to post new "SEEN-BY's" from SCNET.
   (We've probably overlooked several nodes that are now carrying it...)

*  SysOps, please use SCNET's "Companion Echo" SC_SYSOP to complain. <g>
   (Also, please help out answering questions about SCNET, if possible!)

04/26/94

*  Recent Fidonet nodelist is checked to supply any missing information.
   (The SCNETBBS.BAD file is now trimmed down to nothing left!  THANKS!)

*  The Dungeon and Crossroads BBS leave their required info for SCNETBBS
   List in SC_SYSOP & SCNET respectively.  A new public post now needed.
   (Please report more new missing or incorrect information right away!)

*  A decision has been made to reduce the details reported in this file.
   SCNET has now reached the point of having critical mass at 80+ nodes!
   (Charleston still has more access nodes than rest of state combined.)

*  The ANSI [Color] version of the SCNET BBS List is now over 100 lines!
   (SCNET's rapid growth has made keeping the list much more difficult.)

03/28/94

*  Sad News: Charleston's Center Ice (Stingray Hqrs.) is now down. <sob>
   (Removed from SCNET BBS List - Please report other dead SCNET nodes!)

*  The access number listed for Turbo BBS before was incorrect. (Fixed!)

*  Terry Porter of Rough Edges BBS reports he's been here all along. <g>
   (Several other upstate nodes suddenly seem to be relaying SCNET now!)

*  Pat's Place and The Family Snitch in Charleston have now added SCNET!
   (Charleston continues to lead the state for number of SCNET nodes...)

03/23/94

*  John Gemmill [Object's Instance] and Mel Minitor [RFR Communications]
   leave the required information in SC_SYSOP for getting on SCNET list.
   (North Augusta has bumped Charleston from the top of SCNET BBS List!)

*  John Hulsey of Late Night Adventure Land provides info from SC_SYSOP.
   (Correct modem number for his Columbia BBS [781-1990] is now listed!)

*  Jim Snell of The Unregistered Copy BBS shocks everyone from SC_SYSOP.
   (SCNET finally arrives in Spartanburg - the upstate making progress!)

03/22/94

*  Bad News: Word says Beaufort's Fidonet [Network 3650] is in shambles.
   More Beaufort boards may join SCNET through Charleston's Network 372.
   (Consideration to remove them in the SCNETNOT.YET list is overruled!)

*  Sad News: It looks like Charleston's Mockingbird Heights BBS is down.
   (Removed from SCNET BBS List - Please report other dead SCNET nodes!)

*  Good News: New file, DESC.SDI, is now added to SCNETBBS.ZIP archives.
   (Some SysOps prefer all their file descriptions limited to one line!)

02/02/94

*  Dennis Rogers of Trivial Nuisances appears in SC_SYSOP outta nowhere.
   (Greenwood makes its debut in SCNET - there IS hope for the upstate!)
