Current rumors: - MK3 due at same time as MK - The Movie. (Jesse Yu, discussion w/ Tobias at WCES) Other sources have put it in April, I've heard as late as May. {Ed. Note: Jesse Yu is a friend of MK Digest Subscriber Keith Makuck} - There will be 16 characters. Four will be "classic," and 12 will be new.(EGM #66, Jan.'95) - Sonya, Kano, and Goro will return. Also, Smoke and Jade will be hidden _ and_ playable. Friendships and babalities will be back as well.(Ed Boon, quoted on the MK WWW site) - Shao Khan won MKII. This allows the gang to compete on Earth again for the "final showdown." (Gamepro Magazine Interview) - Jax will return as well. (Gamepro) { Ed. Note: SWEET! } - More moves, more fatalities, more backgrounds, more rumors from last two games, and 50% more memory will be in MK3. (Gamepro Magazine) - The MK3 Design Team: Boon, Tobias, Tony Goskie, John Vogel, Steve Beran, and Dave Micich. The last new are new to the MK design staff. (Gamepro) Note: If you have a rumor that you would like to send in for the Digest or FAQ, please also leave where it came from so I can confirm it or at least show with some certainty that it's true. I realize that you can't always believe everything you read in EGM(sucks) and other magazines, but for now it's all we've got... ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------- Terminology --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- First of all, it will help greatly if you can understand what I'm talking about. Agreed? If not, this FAQ would be worthless. -= Motions =- -HP - High Punch LP - Low Punch b - Block HK - High Kick LK - Low Kick U - Up D - Down B - Backward F - Forward So this is what the controller should look like with the character facing right: U HP HK O O O O O \|/ b B O--O--O F O /|\ O O O O O D LP LK A few more: X-Y - Move or press X, then move or press Y. X+Y - Move or press X and Y at the same time. pX# - Press and hold button X for # seconds. qXY - Quarter circle starting at direction X moving to direction Y. hXYZ - Half circle starting at direction X, moving through direction Y, then on to direction Z. -= Distances =- -N - Right next to. qS - One-fourth of the screen away. hS - Half the screen away. FS - On the opposite side of the screen. Let's get to the good stuff! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- The Kombatants ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------- This part should be obvious...the special moves, the fatalities, the friendships, babalities...etc... ** Kano ** ** Sonya ** ** Jax ** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Secret Kombatants --------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- How to get to them and how to play them. -= Getting to Them =- -** Smoke ** ** Jade ** -= Playing Them =- -** Smoke ** ** Jade ** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Combos -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Combo section. -= General =- --= Individual =- -** Kano ** ** Sonya ** ** Jax ** ** Smoke ** ** Jade ** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Points of Interest -------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ This will be little (insignificant to the fighting part) things like slipping off the spikes in the Kombat Tomb, Smoke and Jade in the Living Forest, and "Oh Whoa!" (from The Dead Pool). Those little touches really set MK apart, I think. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Kombatant Stories --------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Here is where the Kombatant bios will go. I'll include each intro, along with each ending as soon as I get them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Credits and Thanks -------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Thanks first of all to everyone who subscribed to the MK Digest in the first place. It was these guys who showed me that something like this is wanted out there. It's still not quite off the ground yet, but keep those posts coming! Matt Kruse (preliminary info and rumor control) Andy Eddy (for not prosecuting me for reprinting info from his mag) Anthony Espindola (for advertising the MK Digest on his MK WWW Pages) Ian Sawchuck (for helping with this thing...well, he will, anyway!) I'll add e-mail addresses when I get more time... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Ippon! (well, until I get a MK3 quote...) --------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- Well, That's it for now. I would like to put in the ASCII page break codes between each section, that way I could keep a more logical flow or order to it. Also, you could separate each section and have a little booklet or something for each part. It would make taking the moves to the arcade easier, too. So if anyone knows how to insert ASCII page break codes, PLEASE tell me! Thanks. One more thing...if some creative genius could make me a great ASCII title for this, it would make it that much better.
