---------------------------------------------------------------------- Notify+ 3.61 - Unread eMail Notification for Microsoft Mail 3.x (c) 1994,1995 Peripherals Plus Technologies, Inc and Kirk E. Barrett Requires: Windows for Workgroups Std. Mail, Mail for PC Networks & Windows Client Microsoft Mail Remote for Windows ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Notify+ is an easy to use New Mail Notification program for Microsoft Mail that can be run from Windows Startup, command line, or in win.ini. It is a network application featuring some handy tools for the eMail administrator. For the user, it provides a nice eMail control panel that can sit on top of all other windows for the eMail power user. Why use this? Well, if you have NOVELL, then you have no eMail notification because you have no NetBios! Also, it will work with the Mail remote, for PCs that poll for mail. Also, it consumes far less resources than running the full Microsoft Mail minimized, and it is darn handy to just read that new eMail right away You can reply/delete/or forward it, or best of all. IGNORE IT. If you are in a DOS session/box either full-screen or minimized, Notify+ will grab the focus, put up the box, then return the focus to DOS exactly how it was after you: 1) hit ignore 2) read the message, or 3) do nothing and wait 18 seconds. Notify+ is a great little eMail tool for the network eMail user. Gets them signed in at startup, and reading/composing messages with absolute executive simplicity. From a single click, a user can: o Run Microsoft Mail o Send/Compose a new message using standard Microsoft Mail compose and address dialog o Read New Messages o Set "Show On Top" sticky property o Hide Notify On-Screen Icon from screen and task-list o Toggle Notification on or off o Set Notification intervals o Log On and Off as other eMail users o Install Notify plus in startup group with one mouse click. o Get Notification from DOS boxes, either full-screen or windowed. o Plays a "U've got Mail" .wav file if you have a sound card. (Sounds courtesy of AOL i think) o Play a user-defined .wav file The Administrator Can: o Tell users to just type FILE|RUN NOTE to execute and click Run At Windows Startup to install o Run NOTE from dos prompt as: WIN NOTE INSTALL to install for the user o Edit a personal (local) NOTIFY.INI file and specify users name and password, so notify can log right in with only user name specified on command line. Also can specify other applications to run after nofify starts. The applications can run "hidden" or "normal" o Edit a shared (Network) NOTESHRD.INI file and specify users name and password, so notify can log right in with only user name specified on command line - REGARDLESS OF PC USED!!! Also can specify other applications to run after nofify starts. The applications can run "hidden" or "normal" for ALL PCs starting up!! Great for programs you want to run invisibly to perform certain tasks.... Start a program the displays a "whats new bulletin" or whatever. o Ability to Specify Window Title of a Program you wish to hide globally. In other words, say you run another program and it is just a "stub" like Intel Lansight. It has no main window, just icon. When Notify fires up, it will search for that window by enumerating all windows, and if it finds it, it will hide it; this removing it from a "power-user's" ALT-TAB and task list. o Pass Environment Variables for Name and/or Password Example: NOTE %USER% NOTE %USER% -p%PASSWORD% NOTE BILL -p%BILLMAILPW% o Notify Icon depicts whether new mail is in the inbox, or not. o Pressing "OK I KNOW" button makes notify+ NOT re-notify you about those x number of messages. if user DOES NOT respond at all Notify+ keeps on notifin' till the user acknowledges it or reads their messages, or runs ms-mail o Microsoft eForms can be called - Next version will support calling eForms. If you need it sooner, eMail us. o Define a .WAV file to play o Disable/hide any buttons in notify+ Files Needed and Where: NOTE.EXE - Should be in your \MAILEXE\ directory. One copy fits all, so why waste disk space? It could be on locals or whereever. NOTE-FR.EXE - French Version. Copy to NOTE.EXE and install as directed above. NOTE-DE.EXE - German Version. Copy to NOTE.EXE and install as directed above. NOTENT.EXE - NT Version English. Same directions as above... NOTENT-F.EXE - NT French Version. NOTENT-D.EXE - NT German Version. APPEXEC.DLL - If you want to be able to run Notify from Microsoft Mail's "MAIL" Menu, you need this in \MAILEXE\ directory. It is from Microsoft, not Me. It is on your supplimental disk, but just in case, here it is. NOTIFY.INI - Created per user in \WINDOWS directory NOTESHRD.INI - Created by administrator and put in \MAILDATA\ subdirectory - OR - wherever the ServerPath= setting is pointed to in the MSMAIL.INI file. This is usually drive M:\> or M:\MAILDATA\ Provides GLOBAL auto-password and login for Notify Hides programs and windows globally, executes other apps and can execute them in a hidden state. * THIS FILE IS *NOT* REQUIRED * Notes on use of program and source: Sorry, Source code is NOT available, however contract customizations are available.
