Shareware Information ======================== Mountain View is an easy to use SHAREWARE text viewer. The Demonstration version is fully operational, except the Save and Print functions are limited to 60 lines of text. The registered version may be obtained by sending $10 (Check or Money Order in US FUNDS Only) to: Mountain Software 6911 NE Livingston Road Camas, Washington 98607 USA Mountain Software assumes no responsibility for damages caused to your system or software by this program. Loading Text =============== A file is loaded into Mountain View by clicking on the 'Load' button or by pressing the 'L' key on the keyboard. A fileselector will appear allowing you to locate the file you wish to view. Alternatively, you can drag and drop any file onto the MTN_VIEW.EXE file and have it loaded automatically. Or, use Windows "Associate" functions to have Mountain View run automatically when selecting certain filetypes. Mountain View allows you to view any file, though many files may not be readable. To ease the reading of certain text files, Mountain View will automatically strip control codes from MS-Write documents. You may prefer to view non-text files in a hex display format. To do this, RIGHT click the 'Load' button to load a file. Mountain View will load files of any size, provided you have enough free memory to hold the file. 3. Moving Through Documents =========================== Scrolling through text may be accomplished by using the Up/Down cursor keys, or by placing the mouse pointer over the text and clicking either mouse key. The LEFT mouse key takes you backward through a document, the RIGHT mouse key takes you forward through a document. 'Paging' through a document is accomplished by holding down the SHIFT key when scrolling, or by using the Left/Right cursor keys, or by using the Page Up/Page Down keys. You can jump to any line in the document by clicking the 'Jump' button and entering the desired line. Or, you can click on 'Top' or 'Bottom' in the Jump dialog. 4. Marking a Block ================== Mountain View allows you to mark any block of text and save or print just that block. To mark a block of text, hold down the CONTROL key and LEFT click the first line of text you wish to block. Then, hold down the CONTROL key and RIGHT click the last line of text you wish to block. 5. Saving/Printing Text ======================= To save text, click the 'Save' button or press the 'S' key on the keyboard. The file-selector will appear so that you may enter a filename for the new text file. To print text, click the 'Print' button or press the 'P' key on the keyboard. If you have selected a block of text you will be asked whether you want to save/print the entire text file, or just the block you have marked. NOTE: The demo version will only save the first 60 lines of a text file or text block. 6. Searching ============ Mountain View allows you to search for any text string by clicking the 'Find' button or by pressing the 'F' key on the keyboard. A dialog box will appear for you to enter your search string. Press the ENTER key when you have finished. New searches will begin at the top of the document. If you have already performed a search, you can find the next or previous occurances by clicking the appropriate button in the 'Find' dialog. As an alternative, you can find the next occurance by pressing the 'N' key on the keyboard. 7. Editing Text =============== Mountain View is designed only as a text viewer. However, you can call up the editor of your choice by clicking the 'Edit' button, or by pressing the 'E' key on the keyboard. The defined editor may be changed by RIGHT clicking the 'Edit' button. The file-selector will appear so that you may locate and select your preferred text editor. The text in Mountain View will remain intact, even if you edit the file originally loaded. If you wish to view the modified file, you will need to reload it into Mountain View after editing. 8. Tools ======== The 'Tools' button allows you to sort text files alphabetically by line. This is often useful for lists that are stored one item per line. You may sort in forward or reverse alphabetical order. Note that you can mark and sort a block of text in addition to the entire text file. 9. Program History ================== Mountain View was originally written for the Atari ST line of computers.
